《Master's Vampire (Book 1 of The OutCaste Series)》Chapter 34

I couldn't help but look down to meet his gaze—a dull, aged blue lacking in the golden glint it once boasted. It was as if all light was taken away, leaving a dark shadow in its place.
Meeting my eyes however, seemed to return something back to his passive expression.
With one effortless motion, Master had my harness severed from the leash connecting it.
"This one will not be sold or ever brought here again," he says in a threateningly calm voice.
The host literally kneeled to apologize as did the staff working there. Even some of the guests tried to hide their faces while others shifted uncomfortably in their seats.
He had always carried himself with domineering confidence, but the audience seemed to fear him even more now.
Without another word, he turned to walk out of the auction hall. I followed behind accordingly.
Only when we were outside did I dare speak up.
"Master."
Master stopped.
"Long time no see," I start nervously, unsure if I had the right to speak.
He turned to face me with an unreadable expression.
"And when did Evelyn learn to initiate small talk?" his melodic voice blocked out all the sounds from the nightlife around me.
The me of old would quickly apologize, but now I couldn't possibly see anything beyond his gentle greeting. He always had a way of poking fun at me unintentionally.
"Evelyn learnt a lot of things when she was away," I answer.
"I can tell," Master says softly. Immediately, a slight pain weighs in my heart.
Back then, he spoke with deliberate softness. Now, it simply seems because of exhaustion.
"Have you been well, Master?"
He nods and offers a meek smile.
"If I recall correctly, you no longer have to address me as that."

"Master, I-"
"Evelyn," he interrupts.
My eyes follow him as he looks distantly at the starry sky before letting out a heavy sigh.
"I don't deserve to be called that by you."
"Master, that's not true..." I find myself defending against his own statement and any traces of my previous resolve dissipates.
"I forbid you to address me as such again."
There was a great solemnity in his words that seemed to come from reflection of the years that had gone by between us.
He didn't have to say anything else for even the densest of us to know that he has suffered more than enough on his own.
Never would I have imagined, someone like me, could feel so sympathetic for a man who once garnered so much of my respect and admiration.
Hearing his words now, I finally understand. Master is saying these words for my own closure.
And here along, I believed that Master has long forgotten about the likes of me.
As the realization sank in, my vision became slightly blurred. I tried to blink it away only to comprehend that I was doing it again.
Master was shocked at first, but recovered his usual composure.
"I guess Evelyn did learn a lot of things," he said as he patted me on the head.
His hand was big and warm, just like before.
I only cried more while Master stayed by my side throughout the night, gently patting my head like a father watching his child finally grow up.
After that, he didn't return back to the castle with me. Nor did he stop by to even say a word to Nero. He just left.
Left before I found the words to properly communicate my feelings.
But the next time I see him again, I'd definitely let him know.

By the time I returned, news about the pretty pet with the rosy red eyes at the auction already reached Nero's ears.
"I didn't expect so many bidders to be interested in Disabled vampires. As if I wasn't popular enough to begin with," I joke when I failed to hide from him upon entry through the front door.
He didn't find humor in my attempt.
"You are not in any ways disabled."
"Oh but the color of my eyes say otherwise."
Nero comes closer, standing only a few inches short of his father's imposing height.
"It pains me to know you've suffered because of it. If you want, I can..." Nero pauses and looks deep into my eyes. "I can change that."
Though he offered, he didn't seem too happy about his own proposal.
Lucky for him, I have no intention of accepting.
"But I quite love the color red," I respond with a smile, faintly recalling someone who once told me the same thing.
Despite the different treatment I received growing up, it's thanks to this eccentricity that allowed me to meet people who could see beyond my exterior. It's also thanks to this trait that I've found a life that I'm pleased with.
So if I change them now, I'll be betraying myself and all those who found good in me.
Nero smiles at my response before rushing me off to clean myself up and get ready for breakfast. That was the end of that.
Peaceful days followed as I grew accustomed to life back in Argid. I became in charge of the Dietrich household and Nero agreed to pretty much everything I asked. I most appreciate that Adrian and London now join our once lonely dinner table every night.
It was nice especially when Niles dragged Liam over to visit after learning that I left the church. Seeing them occasionally made me reminisce about the old days when everyone gathered together, throwing around jokes and light banter with Master shaking his head in disapproval and Alvena giggling politely on the side.
But who was I to complain? I'm already blessed with Nero to spend my days.
Then one fine morning, while in the midst of finishing breakfast, Nero asked something out of the blue that shocked everyone at the table.
"Would you want to see Lucien?"
My eyes grew wide at the mention of the familiar name. Niles's earlier smile disappeared while the others didn't even bother looking up. Silence ensued all around, but Nero continued to look at me with all due seriousness.
He must've known. No matter how peaceful the days were, I wasn't completely satisfied. Seeing Master again brought me greater relief than I had imagined.
Seeing Lucien again...
Nero probably knew I was still missing that. He also wouldn't ask if he couldn't make it happen.
So without letting myself get too hopeful, but remaining as serious as he expects to me, I answer with a bold and honest, "Yes, I do."
"Then we'll head out after breakfast," Nero casually concluded before carrying on with his breakfast like any other perfect day.

He gets hit by a car, and after hearing strange words from an even stranger voice, he dies. However, minutes, hours, maybe even days later, he awakes, his senses of smell, sight, and hearing robbed of him. Author's Note: This is my first story on Royal Road, so it might not be the best. Although, I hope you enjoy! I'll probably write around 2000 words or more per chapter, but on average a bit more. If you're wondering, the cover art is drawn by me, just in case you thought I wasn't giving credit to the creator. This story might often times lean more into the comedy side of things, but stuff can still get pretty serious at times, especially in the later chapters. The story isn't super dark or anything, but character death is of course going to be a thing. Who? Well, you'll find out, eventually. Also, I'll upload chapters on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I hope you enjoy reading this little hobby of mine!

Midthalion Saga
+++Working on new chapters. Share what I've posted with your friends and family! Be sure to build strong bonds with those who are important to you. We only have each other in this world for so long!+++ Can Roderick XXIII gather together and train a party of adventurers to clear out Madeon Caves and bring peace to the wildmarches of Midthalion? Sent from his home monastery in the west to the wildmarches of Midthalion, Roderick the Holy Avenger is devoted to living out his oath to bring the Holy Light to the dark corners of the world. He enlists the help of an old friend, Ulrich Vogelbrandt the dwarf druid, to train and prepare a fighting force capable of defending the west from the evil they both see gathering and growing in the east. Eoroth is an ode to Tolkienesque epic fantasy, Robert E Howard and H.P. Lovecraft's pulp fiction, and Gygaxian Dungeons & Dragons. I like to write about serious topics because I think it's fun. I hope it makes for a fun read. Place: Eoroth, a vast, flat world with many continents set in oceans that reach out and mingle with the Celestial Sea. Our story takes place on the continent of Thalion in the middle, unsettled region called Midthalion. Peoples: Races in Eoroth aren't different species; the species of man is just incredibly diverse, consisting of many known races (and perhaps some unknown). There are no humans in Thalion. Thalion's races include variations of elves, dwarves, halflings (billowits), pierros (clownish men), bergeracs (long-nosed and swarthy men of honour), orcs, trolls, goblins, and hobgobs. The Church: There's one dominant religion in Westhalion. The faith of the elves is an analogue to Roman Catholicism while the dwarves practice an Eastern Orthodox analogue. (Forgive me for not having figured out names yet.) The practitioners worship a triune god (the All-Father, Son-of-All, and Holy Light). There are many powers in heaven, all created by God. These include the Twelve High Thrones, individual, created beings who take on the role of guiding mankind in different aspects, drawing them closer and closer to God. (That should be the essentials. I could write pages on the theology. Comment where something's unclear in the story.) Natural World: There are plants and animals in Eoroth, but the world is also inhabited by spirits called aeons. Aeons are transformative beings; in the wild, they'll change based on whatever is happening nearby. Pollute a pond? Expect to see toxic toad-men running around. Leave a bunch of dead bodies strewn across a battlefield? Expect the place to become haunted with ghouls and ghasts. Druids are important for making sure that the aeons are pacified; that their needs are met so that they don't become rampaging monsters. Where the wilderness becomes overgrown, so too do the aeons. Aeons and People: Long ago, men learned how to trap aeons in stone tablets and use them for war. Now, anyone can capture an aeon into a special staff made by a druid. Men train, raise, and bond with these aeons. Druids often build entire ranches devoted to raising healthy aeons as allies and companions. Aeons are divided into twelve known families, and the church sees these as corresponding with the Twelve Thrones in Heaven. Direction: My goal is to get the story to one million words by June next year. I have tons of content in mind for the world. I want to release novels set in different ages of the world depicting different historical events. I hope to expand the setting into a tabletop role-playing game as well as a series of old-school JRPGs. But, it all begins with writing some stories and publishing my novels.
