《The King's Queen》XV

Chapter Fifteen ▪︎
Enjoy the chapter; it's a flashback to the times when Alexander was open about being the king, he now chooses to hide the fact. (Only certain people know how he actually looks and who he is.)
It was a cold winter day with crystals of water falling from the clouds that formed a thick blanket for the city of Rome. He walked freely through the empty streets, having a mental argument with his other side, Thanatos.
Rome was one of the cities he resented; it always held a divided population. The whole city represented it; the center was filled with lavish architecture, whereas the outskirts had numerous frozen dead bodies. The rich would never mix with the poor and they were proud of it.
The argument Thanatos represented was 'we should simply kill all of them'. He wasn't fond of humans, in case you didn't notice.
Alexander came here to end the priviledge- the poor would live and the rich would die, making both Alexander and Thanatos happy.
He came to the newly built arena where judges delivered mostly severe punishments for Rome's population. He could already smell the blood and feel the pain of the innocent from the punishments; Thanatos surprisingly felt divided about it. He certainly didn't enjoy it, seeing as he felt everything Alexander did before he even turned into a creature, back then when he was a servant.
He scoped the area out for ways to enter through the massive walls. He could enter through the main entrance but he would have to kill the men guarding it, thus notifying everyone inside of his arrival. He wanted to surprise them, fill their bodies with adrenaline and consume their thoughts by fear.
They deserved every last bit of punishment they were going to get.

He found an entrance covered up with an illusion of one of the bonfires in front of the walls. They must have a magic barrier if they put an illusion to cover up an entrance. It means they were prepared for creatures attacking them.
He touched the wall and whispered "in forma Serdius, spell creatura, vitae*" to lift the spell they used for the barrier, which was convieniently one he created himself to protect his own castle.
(*The creature spell, form Serdius, lift)
He walked through the illusion and before him stood the whole elite residency of Rome: the royals, nobles, senators, generals etc. They wore silk and gold embedded dresses and suits with expensive diamond jewelry - some even wore crowns.
He observed them for a while feeling disgust in every fibre of his being. He noticed a little girl, no older than eight, kneeling on the podium opposite to the throne, with both her hands, knees and ankles tied down to the podium with chains. There was a man in black standing behind her, holding an equallly dark whip in his hand, raising it behind his head and striking the girl's bare back in a swift motion. Alexander's eyes reddened and he immidiately blocked the girl's pain.
'Pretend as if it hurts', he whispered in her head.
She let out a loud scream.
'Thank you', she whispered back as she sobbed on the podium in relief, the rich thinking she was crying in despair.
The man striked her bloody back once again, making more blood ooze out of it as she let out an even louder scream.
Thanatos felt connected with the girl. Not even he thought a child should be faced with this kind of pain. He valued the fact that she didn't ask any questions in the moment of mercy, but thanked him in the most honest way.
He decided she should be one of his Lords, a Lady.
He killed all of the men and women that felt satisfied by her screams and left the rest to wallow in grief. The poor would be awarded with the rich's property and no one would die of starvation again; unless they deserved it.

8 160The Saga of Geir Røshjert
"His name will never be sung, son. Skalds and bards like me will never tell his stories to the mass. But only us and us alone will keep telling his story, his actions, his saga. For he is the man who started all of this." This is a story no man in Lumenter will ever hear, no man except for an Arnesen, for his stories are dull and generic to the ears of the masses, except for us, because he is the very reason why our people traveled this far east, why kingdoms in Erisgi fell and rose, why I... even existed in the first place. He is Geir, son of Arne, called 'the Stranger' by the people. But what he truly is, is a fiery red heart that beats inside every Eyklandian, Arnesen, and me.
