《Performance》Act I; Scene 12

Remus was laying on his bed, staring up at his ceiling. Feeling like shit. And not the good kind. He doesn't know how to feel about anything. His brother is being forced to date some tit bearer because he looks "unlovable" ? Nah, that's messed up. Speaking of which...he called the three dudes who've lived this type of life since they were born "dramatic" when they tried to help him.

Gah! He's such an asshole!! He knew something was up with his brother and his friends, but the moment he gets a chance to find out what- he messes it up!!!! Not to mention, he made them feel like their concerns were over exaggerated...

He needs to sort this out. He hopped up off his bed and made his way to the Terd's house and knocked like was gonna break in and snatch a child.

A librarian looking lady opened, "Hello miss, I would like to check out your son."

"Pardon?"

Remus rolled his eyes, "I wanna talk to Logos."

"And why should I let..." her eyes scanned him , "...you...see him...?"

"Because I've never lost a book, and I've always gotten it back before it was overdue."

"What are you talking about?"

"You look like a librarian, no way I'm missing the opportunity to make jokes about it."

Her face twisted and she shut the door after saying, "He's studying."

Welp. He didn't achieve what he came here for, but at least he had fun pissing off his mom.

Remus walked around the house where a drain pipe led up to a room on the second floor. He grinned and climbed up it, knocking on Logan's window.

Logan jumped at the deliberate noise outside his window, then his heart sped too fast for a second when he saw a goblin at his window. (His heart sped too fast is the Logan way of saying he nearly had a heart attack.)

Logan went over and opened the window, letting in the offbrand Roman, "Excuse my language, but what the hell?"

Remus smiled, "Sorry, Logan Booby, I got your mom's tits in a twist and had to shimmy my way up the pole to see you."

Logan blinked as his brain tried to process what he just heard. No one's ever spoken with such a...vocabulary...before. Not around him, at least.

"...What?"

Remus sighed...preps..., "I pissed your mama off, so I had to climb up the drain pipe."

"Ah...- Why, again, did you go to such...extremes...to speak with me?"

Remus sighs, "I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry for saying you and the other two were dramatic for what you were saying. You're the ones who've been living like that since you were born, and know much more than I do. I think there's probably merit to what you were saying."

Logan stared, "It's-...it's quite alright, Remus. Actually you're right. We all tend to blow things out of proportion when we're worked up."

"Huh? Logos, no. Some people are in genuinely horrible situations, if you're in one, you shouldn't pass it off as an overreaction."

"Well, then it's a good thing we're not in one, Remus. Sorry to disappoint."

"Wow, I expected Janus to lie, not you."

"Pardon?"

"Think about it logically, Lo. Are the things our parents do to you three logical and just? Or are they overbearing and toxically manipulative."

Logan's brain was spinning (Which made his head spin more, because brains can't physically spin, so this doesn't make sense. Oh- right, it's the hormones labeled emotions that are causing this.) "Our parents are famous and important, they raise us the best they can. We'd be ungrateful to claim they were bad parents, because they're not. Now, get out, Janus is coming over."

"No, you're being gaslighted, Logan. Look into it. I know you're smart, so use that brain of yours and look at it from an outside perspective."

"...You're "looking for ghosts", Remus. There's no problems here, merely what you want to believe, because you want there to be a reason for how your brother acts. Because, despite how much you hate him, you love him just as much, and you're desperate to find some hope for him."

Remus felt tears prick behind his eyes as the truth hit him. He's right. He wants to find a reason to forgive Roman. He wants Roman to be being manipulated because if he is, then the way he acts isn't his fault. And that's such a shitty thing to wish about someone, but he loves his brother...he remembers how he was as a kid. He was starry-eyed, and hopeful. He dreamed of starring in movies and being on Broadway. And Remus shared those dreams. They used to stay up 'till 10 at night- which isn't that late, but when you're 6, it's the most rebellious and dangerous thing, ever- and talk about what roles they'd fit into, and what they'd want their image to be. Roman embraced being a Prince, and was kind to everyone. But that all...that all changed one day...and it's painful to think about the sudden change in the once glowing prince. Roman became quieter, more obedient. He ignored Remus, and he said how Disney and Broadway are, "Dreams for the lazy people who refuse to wake up." The laughter and color that use to fill the world went dull, that day. Everything felt like a bad dream, and he'd wake up, and his brother would be sitting next to him, spilling his dreams of being the first Gay Disney Prince while Remus slept. God...Remus forgot about that. Roman's effin gay! They've both been since they were 10, Remus knew that!

But Remus isn't looking for ghosts. He knows that there's something wrong, because the person he lives with isn't his lively, Disney obsessed twin brother.

"You're right, I want, with every fiber of my body, to find a reason to forgive Roman. But, as much as I wish I was- I'm not wrong. Because, if I was- Roman would still be the brother that was also my best friend, and I wouldn't have to look for a reason to forgive him. Something broke him one day- something broke all of you- and I'm gonna find out what, so that I can fix you!"

Logan stared at the vulgar man. When Remus is passionate about something, he's passionate. Something about that makes Logan wanna be friends with him. What kind of conversions would they have? It feels like it could be...fun...

The gears in Logan's brain were turning...Remus...might be right...but...no, he needs to discuss this with the others, "...I need to call Roman and Janus..."

"Roman's on a blind date, right now. Some chick to make him look good."

"What!?"

"I know right? It's fucked up..."

"...Roman's gay and demi..."

At that moment, Roman appeared, with a girl they've never seen before, "Wow, Lo. Way to out me."

"Well, I already knew you were gay. Anyway, who's the chick."

"For starters, I'm not a "chick." Nor am I a boy. They/them pronouns, please, I'm nonbinary."

Remus felt the embarassment creep up his cheeks, "Oh- fuck, okay."

"My name is Lark, but in public and with our parents, I'm Vanessa, she/her."

Remus scowled, "That's fucked up."

Lark shrugged, "Welcome to the rich and privileged."

"How are you guys okay with this?"

Roman rolled his eyes, "We get use to it, you will too."

"What!? No way will I let myself get use to this! This is abuse!"

Roman scoffed, "Abuse? No, it's business."

Logan coughed, "Well, maybe slightly abuse...?"

"What? No, our parents are just strict..."

Logan sighed, "I don't know what to believe anymore...call-" Logan looked at Lark, "Call Deceit over here and we'll discuss this with him."

Roman did just that, and informed them that he'll be here shortly. But Roman doesn't believe that they're being abused. Just because he doesn't like the way he's being raised, doesn't make it bad. He's a teenager, of course he'll be unhappy with new rules and requirements.

Right...?
