《Rogue Queen ➵ 2.0》➵ III. The Plan

"It was a fun day, that day," Killian says softly, staring at the floor.
We're all in the living room. Killian's sitting on the love seat with Zaine leaning against his side, one arm around Zaine's shoulders. Clove and I are across from them, both of us at either ends of the couch, backs against the armrests, our legs stretched out and taking up the middle of the couch. Chase and Rhea are playing with their toys on the floor in the space between the couch and the loveseat.
"I bet it was," I whisper. "Lyria was such a good person. I'm sorry I couldn't save her."
"You did your best," Clove says. "You saved the twins and you were willing to go back inside to try and save our older sister when you'd just met her."
I smile softly. "She saved me. And she was the first genuine friend I'd had in a long time."
I growl quietly, remembering Kia. I shared some of my deepest secrets with her and she had acted sympathetic and understanding. I trusted her and it turned out she was only using me to get Raiden. She doesn't deserve him.
Raiden... I do miss him, a lot, and Dad. They were the only ones who cared about me. I can still mind-link them if I wanted to because we're family but I don't. I don't block the links but I don't reply when they ask where I am, if I'm alright. Both of them tell me they love me every night. Raiden says Asher never banished me. I don't believe him.
Why wouldn't Asher banish me? He probably got me to leave, then took back his rejection to taunt me, a constant reminder that I'm bound to him, my biggest bully, unable to break the bond on my own.
"Reina? You OK?" Zaine asks softly, his voice concerned.
I give my head a small shake, smiling weakly. "Yeah... Yeah, I'm fine."
"No, you're not," Clove scolds, lightly smacking my leg. "Don't insult our intelligence. What is it?"
I bite my lip, hesitating.
"Rei, you know you can tell us anything," Killian says softly.
I sigh, "I miss Raiden, and my Dad. I... I sort of wanna go back, just to see them again."
Clove smiles understandingly. "But you know you can't."
I nod sadly. "I can't go back to Moonblood."
"Why not?" Chase asks.
"Because they'll hurt Reina if she goes there," Zaine says gently.
"What if they didn't know she was there?" Chase asks. "Reina can be a ninja and sneak around and hide and they won't know!"
Chase stands up and does a few ninja moves, like a jump to the left and little kick. I smile, watching him. Rhea giggles and joins her twin in being a ninja. Clove chuckles softly, smiling fondly.

"You know, he's got a point," Killian says. "Why can't Reina go back if they didn't know she was there? We could come up with a fake name and backstory for her, convincing enough that they wouldn't be able to tell it's fake."
Clove taps her lips with a finger. "That might work," she murmurs. "Send an email to Asher asking for temporary shelter. We could all go and spend Christmas there... We'd only need to come up with an ID for Reina, they don't know of us. What'd'ya think, Reina? Wanna try it?"
"And don't say no just to keep us safe," Killian adds. "If they did find out about you, they'd have a hard time trying to hurt us, with all of us being witches and warlocks."
"I guess," I say slowly.
I consider my options. There is a way I might be able to see Raiden and Dad, and I have faith that we'd be able to pull off making a believable name and backstory. Or we can just stay here, continuing life the same way we've been going for a while now.
"Well?" Killian asks.
"... Let's try it," I say, nodding. "Changeling, you in?"
Zaine snorts, "You think I'd pass up the opportunity to finally beat up Asher for hurting you? Or the opportunity to go on an adventure? Of course I'm in. Where do we start?"
"First let's work out Reina's fake ID and backstory," Clove says. "We can ask the Masks to make the rest of the papers, like the birth certificate and all that."
The Masks rogue group are the ones in charge of covering our footsteps if a mistake is made and there are clues left behind that lead to us rogues, the ones who keep us hidden. They also make fake IDs if one is ever needed.
Clove gets up and goes over to the table, grabbing her laptop before coming back and sitting down again. She pulls something up on the screen and starts typing.
"So, what should we go with for the name?" She asks.
"How 'bout Autumn Luna Ranger?" I suggest after thinking for a few seconds.
Clove thinks about it before her fingers type it out. "I like it. Can I ask why that name?"
"Autumn is my favourite season and I didn't know what else to pick. Luna... Dad would always call me his little Luna because it means moon. And Ranger because we're pretty much family anyway."
Clove nods. "Backstory now and it has to include all of us."
"I have an idea," Zaine says. "Sometimes the best lies are part of the truth, right? So let's say that our house burned down, that we've been struggling to survive as rogues for the past two years and we finally decided we needed temporary shelter from a pack. We can use the old Ranger house as back up for the story." I wince at the mention of the house destroyed by fire and so do the other Rangers. Zaine looks at us apologetically, "Sorry guys but it had to be mentioned."

I nod, understanding and agreeing. "It's alright. I think it's a good backstory. Flash, Strange, what do you think?"
Killian nods. "I think it's believable."
"Me too," Clove adds. "Are we gonna bring the twins with us?"
"I wanna come!" Rhea cries. "I wanna see Reina's old home!"
"Me too!" Chase shouts, raising his hand above his head.
The twins both look at each other then shift their gazes to Clove, pouting and giving her puppy eyes. She looks at me, silently asking for my answer.
"I don't know," I sigh. "We could also attend Oakland High, to try and blend in more."
"I don't wanna go to highschool," Killian whines. "We never have to use math or French and we already get plenty of exercise so we don't need gym class. Why do we need to learn it if we don't need it?"
"I sort of wanna try it," Zaine says nervously. "I never went to school but my coven did teach me the basics of every subject."
Killian sighs, "If you want to go babe, then I'll come with you." A small grin appears of his lips and he whispers, "Though I've already done that many times before."
Zaine chuckles and kisses Killian's cheek. Clove and I just roll our eyes; we're used to Killian's comments by now. The joke completely flies over the twin's heads.
"I bet one of the pack caretakers could look after the twins for the day if we went to school," I say. Chase and Rhea both cheer excitedly. "But you two, you'd have to make sure not to tell anyone my real name or anything about the rogues."
They both nod and Chase pretends to zip his lips.
Clove reads out everything we have so far. "So, Reina's fake name is Autumn Luna Ranger and we were living as rogues for the past two years after our house burned down." She shivers slightly at the memory. "We'll be attending Oakland High, and ask a caretaker to look after the twins. Is that everything we need?"
"I think so," I say. "But I'll have to be in a disguise. Hopefully Asher will just think something happened to me and Autumn is his second chance mate."
"Ooo and speaking of disguises, I'm going as Regina," Zaine chimes in, grinning.
His eyes glow and he goes back to looking like that blonde haired girl he was this morning. He shakes his head, looking a little dizzy.
"Careful Changeling, don't overuse your power." Killian says worriedly. He pouts, "And why? I'll miss seeing your real face."
Zaine chuckles softly as he changes back to himself. "I can change back when it's just us six."
Slowly, Killian nods in acceptance. Zaine rests his head on Killian's shoulder, cuddling closer to his boyfriend.
Clove sighs, watching them. "You know, I want a relationship like that with someone. Where anyone can clearly see the love we have for each other, where I know my partner would do anything for me, and never betray me."
Killian gives his sister an understanding smile. "You'll find someone eventually, sis. Love like this doesn't just happen with anyone. You have to wait for the one you're destined for."
Clove nods, sighing again. Rhea goes over and hugs her older sister. Clove hugs her back, a smile appearing in her lips.
"You know who I think you'd be really cute with?" I muse.
Clove looks at me, smiling slightly. "Who? Is he cute?"
"My brother," I say.
Clove's eyes widen in surprise. "Really? Raiden?"
"Yeah, if he's still the same as he was two years ago," I reply. "You're both smart and loyal. Raiden was protective and would die for his loved ones. Clove, you're passionate for what you love and you can have quite the temper."
She chuckles. "As much as I wanna deny that last comment, Reina, I know it's true. Okay, we should get back on topic. What about your disguise?"
"I definitely need something to hide my eye colour," I say, gesturing to my red eyes. "Other than that, I don't really know."
"Let me help," Zaine pipes up. "I am the master at disguises." He studies me, analyzing my face. "We could get you some hazel contacts lenses and maybe dye your hair a dark sort of brown, a little lighter than Flash's hair. Then add a little makeup, the kind they use in movies."
Clove looks at me. "I think that would work."
"Yeah," Killian says. "So Reina, ready to go back?"
I smile. "Not really. I never thought I'd actually get the change to go back to Moonblood and see my brother and dad again unless it was in an attack."
"Now in less than two weeks you'll be back there, only this time, you'll be different. And you'll have all of us," Zaine adds, grinning.
I nod. "And I have all of you to thank, my best friends."
Chase comes over to me and climbs onto my lap, giggling and wrapping his arms around my neck. I hug him back, smiling. They're not just my best friends, they're my brothers and sisters. They've all helped me through a lot, and I've helped them.
And now they've helped me find a way to see my brother and dad again.
