《Writing POC 101》Singaporean Characters - @nadhraaaa

Hey y'all !!

My name is Nadhra B. Hasri, and I am Singaporean. The first thing I'd like to say is:

SINGAPORE IS NOT A CHINESE COUNTRY !!

Singapore is a multi-racial country with the Chinese race as the overwhelming majority. That is why Singapore is easily perceived as a Chinese country, I guess, but it is not. In fact, if you read up on Singapore history, you will find that Singapore used to be named Temasek, and used to be a Malay fishing village. Then, Sang Nila Utama from Indonesia found it and named it Singapura (Lion City) as he saw a type of lion on the small island. He left the island as it was, and it was only a couple thousand years later that Sir Stamford Raffles from Britain came and renamed it Singapore after colonising it.

So yes, Singapore originated from a Malay fishing village and has come to be known as a multi-racial country.

Secondly, I'd like to say that not all Singaporeans have horrible English. Yes, we have Singlish, inclusive of all our slangs like 'lah' 'sia' and a whole other combination of words from mainly the Malay and Chinese language. But we do have great education and English as our first language here. It is simply the minority that can't give two shits about having proper English, and therefore gives a bad name to the entire country.

Lastly, I would just like to admit that... yes, as Asians, we are generally much shorter than the average Caucasian. I mean, I myself am only 1.55 metres (5 foot), and there are many more girls around my height. There are some who go slightly above 1.60 m (for girls), but honestly? Not many go above 1.67 metres. For the boys, the average I've seen is 1.70 metres or slightly shorter. Yes, you can gasp. No, you can't make fun of us, because then I'd have to slap you. But I am perfectly fine with admitting that yes, we as part of Asians are short as compared to Caucasians.

And that's all I have for you !! I hope this clears up any misconception of Singaporeans you had. Bye zz !!

Sweet smiles,

Nadhra B. Hasri
