"Pass me the phone." I mutter. Max hands it to me.

"Hello?" I ask.

"Hi. It's me Eleven."

"Yeah?"

"I just wanted to say I am sorry I could not protect you. I really tried." She sounded super upset.

"No it's fine! I probably would've died if it wasn't for you." I chuckled but Eleven didn't say anything.

"Did you want to hangout?" I quickly muttered.

"Yeah sure!" Eleven sounded very happy and Max gave me a strange look.

"Okay I'll see you at Scoops Ahoy in an hour!"

I hung up the phone and Max quickly spoke.

"You're friends with her now?"

"I guess. She did save my life."

"Oh."

"We can all hangout together. It'll be super fun."

Max nods and we make our way to scoops ahoy.

I can finally walk again. After weeks of wheelchairs and crutches I am back on my feet. I honestly thought I'd never be able to skate again. The breeze feels good as I skate around the empty parking lot. The sun is setting and the arcade is closing up beside me.

"Y/n." A familiar voice clears their throat and approaches me.

"What do you want? Is it because I'm out of my wheelchair you like me again?"

"No! I never not liked you! It was just painful seeing you like that."

"Painful for you? Think about how I felt! Oh no I forgot Mike Wheeler only thinks about himself."

"Don't be like that! I love you!"

"You love me when it's convenient!"

"That's just not true!" Mike argues. "Just give me another chance!"

I try to let myself forgive him, but is it really worth the hurting. Is it worth my life to deal with all this crazy demogorgan shit. And I realise it isn't. I need to start caring about myself more. It's not like anybody else will do it for me.

"I'm sorry Mike. We are over."

I watch as he tears up, I place my hand on his shoulder for comfort but he flinches at my touch. My heart stings as I watch him turn away and leave. What have I done...

It's been months since I've spoken to Mike Wheeler.

I stroll into Hawkins High and watch as another girl wraps her arm around Mike's waist. That could've been me. He turns around and catches my gaze. He stares at me for a while and I almost think he's about to approach me, until he turns away again.

Eleven and Max walk over to me and begin taking me to class, but all I can think about is what we could've been.
