《Otome game in a reality》Hidden route; 11. Promise

Asuka woke up in an unfamiliar place, feeling cold as she was sleeping on the cold ground or floor without anything to warm herself.
She saw John on the opposite side of the room, leaning against the wall while hugging himself, also trembling from the cold continuesly. It was obvious since he had nothing but a dark shirt on along with a black pants. Feeling bad for the guy, she decided to get up and return the coat.
When she put it on him, John gladly took it and tried to cover his whole body in his sleep. Seeing such a huge muscular man acting like a little cat hiding from the rain was quite funny to watch. However this probably isn't the outer world creature's real appearance.
"Where's this? An abandoned building?"
She asked from no one in particular and went to observe her surroundings. The place has windows but don't have a heater or trace of single human. Nonetheless many people and buildings can be seen outside.
It was weird how they can reach back to the city from the island in just few hours. Additionally here was winter but it was summer on the island. Is the temperature different in this world? Or a glitch?
But one thing is certain, if she doesn't go somewhere to warm or find herself a clothes immediately, she'll freeze to death. She was already starting to lose the feeling of her toe which had only slippers on.
"Hey John, wake up. We've to go" Asuka gently shook him awake by his shoulder.
"Ughh.. human? You're already awake?" he mumbled sleepily, rubbing his eyes, struggling to open it.
"Do I look like I'm sleeping? And if we don't hurry, I might really sleep eternally. So where should we go first? Do you even have a plan to escape from here?"
"What plan? We just have to get on a plane and go somewhere else right?"
"Then did you order a ticket? Wait, do you even have a cash?"
"Cash? What cash?"
Asuka wanted to curse the stupid male. No, if possible she wanted to punch him right in the face but the only thing she could do was click her tongue in frustration.
So basically they don't have a single penny on them but have three insanely rich psychos hunting them down.
'To think the only ally I have is someone like him..'
"Then where did you get the ship from?"
"I.. stole it and returned it back. I had to look through the owner's memories to learn how to drive it"
That words turned on the invisible light on her head as she almost screamed in excitement.
"That's it! Do you have any magical ability like hypnotizing and stuff?"
Though all the things she were experiencing was magical, she wanted to see someone casting those cool spells and making light appear from their hands like in movies.
"That.. as a follower of God of Judgement, I only have an ability to look through memories of mortals and judge their sins to decide where to send them"
"F*CK!!!"
That was the worst ability to have. How are they gonna find something to eat, let alone escape from this country by reading someone else's memories?! They need to make fake identity to fool her stalkers too.
"H-hey.. but I also can move few objects according to my will like what you humans call telekinesis.."
Hearing that made her finally calm down. That's a better power to have.
"Then go to the convenience store and bring me a food. Also find us a warm place with electricity"
"How can a god's true follower dare to steal.."
"Go or I'll go to the store and rob it myself. However you should expect one of the capture targets to find me through the camera or from police station afterwards"
The nice, vulnerable human from yesterday was long gone. For some reason, John couldn't refuse her bossing him around although she's obviously the one who needs his help.
"To think I'd stoop so low to commit a sin such as stealing.." he mumbled. Asuka can see an imaginary puppy ears on his head due to his sad expression.
"Why do you care? It's a fake world anyway right? People here are just characters created by your hated enemy. Think of it as destroying your hated enemy's children's life and go find me food'"
He seems to finally find the courage as he headed out.
Meanwhile Asuka decided to do some exercise to warm herself up but her growling stomach wasn't helping at all.
'What if we can't escape before the system gets fixed? What if they find me before that? Should I go for the kill?'
She can't help but worry. Hurting the capture targets.. strangely she has never thought of it before. They all are very strong and have so much influence. She thought she'd lose points or reach bad ending if she somehow accidentally murders them but now that the system is gone.. won't that be possible?
"System"
*ding!
It was still the same message from before.
'Wait, what if I kill myself?'
That was possible too. She should ask John when he returns.
"Human! I've brough you a food!"
Speaking of the devil, he returned instantly with countless packages following behind him magically. Asuka was mesmerized by the unrealistic powers of her ally but didn't show it on the surface.
'He's more useful than I thought'
"Did you make sure no one saw you?"
"Yep! I think I'm really good at this. Also here's a hot drink and new clothes for you"
He almost looked like he was about to cry when she told her to steal, but now look at him. He's even wearing a new coat too.
Afterwards, they quickly sat down and started eating like they haven't eaten for weeks.
"John, what happens if I kill myself while the system isn't fixed?" Asuka asked after filling up her stomach. Nonetheless the larger male was still eating.
"Thwen ywu will rwealy dwie. The dwak awngel mwight cwonsume you (Then you'll really die. The dark angel might consume you)"
"Finish the food in your mouth before speaking" Asuka scolded, making the black haired man gulp everything in one go forcefully as he continued to speak again.
"Ughh.. the mortal body is so complicated. Chewing all this food just to live.. how annoying. Anyway, as I was saying, the dark angel is an existence that feeds on dark side of human memories or imagination. The only thing that was separating you from him is the system, which is rule of this world. He already ate one human memories and created this world. If he takes another one, he'll summon his another version and make this world real. Humans, animals, everything will have their own mind and the souls he'll devour from this world will be countless"

Asuka assumed the human which Dark Angel consumed was someone who played otome games and also died during the earthquake. Actually she felt relieved that the unknown person didn't watch vampire or thriller movies but played games instead.
"Sounds like end of the world to me. Honestly I don't care about that crap. Just get me out of this mess and return me to my old world"
Fighting against the dark angel and saving the world is something beyond her powers anyway. She'd love to have revenge but that comes secong. First is to return to her world, her home and get out of this madness.
"I will. After all I'm the faithful follower of the God of Judgement. I'll definitely bring justice to you" John replied with a determined expression.
Asuka cringed hard at his words. These type of 'bringing justice' lines sound cool in movies but was actually super cringy in real life. The silence was getting awkward so she decided to change the subject.
"By the way, aren't you an immortal creature? Is it necessary for you to eat?"
"I've to eat because I'm currently living inside a mortal body. I can't return back to my old self without being summoned by the lord but since I cut all of my ties with him, he can't summon me. I'm stuck here until his holiness returns and stops the dark angel or help you finish the game"
"Then what does the real you look like?"
She was kinda curious. It's not everyday you meet a magical creature who works under the god she never thought existed until now.
"Star"
"What? Really?" Startled by his unexpected answer, she asked again, now even more interested.
"I look like a star but my duty is to lead humans to afterlife. A small light made to lighten up the abyss and give hope to others whilst leading them to afterlife. Isn't that amazing?"
"Not really. That's just plain boring. Giving hope to others and all"
"Tsk. Why do you have to be so pessimistic about everything? The god himself has given me such honorable appearance and purpose!" John clicked his tongue dismissively at Asuka's nonchalant attitude. It reminded him about yesterday, when the human female called him boring just because he doesn't have a name.
"But isn't following other people.. I mean god's words for eternity be very boring? I'd rather live my life free rather than following after someone else. It's just my opinion though"
"Your opinion sucks" he blurted out.
"I thought you don't do anything considered sinful? Swearing is also a sin, you know?"
"T-that.. doesn't count! I just heard it somewhere and said without thinking..."
Asuka chuckled at his flustered expression. At least he felt more humane than anyone she has met here.
[&@&£€¥&&$&....]
Just on time, as if saving him from making excuses, an unknown voice interrupted them. Something was going on outside, like an advertisement but they couldn't hear exactly what it is as they were inside a building.
"I'll go check what it is"
John rushed out. Asuka didn't dare to follow after him, fearing she might get caught on security cameras.
"Human! You've to see this! The characters are doing something weird!"
'As expected, it's them!'
She covered her face with a hoodie, wore few layers of clothes John brought to hide her body figure and followed after him.
There, on the huge screen of some building, Sakura's face can be seen.
[...We introduce you our new horror house!! Enter the blood thrilling, scary orphanage filled with ghosts of young children and solve the mystery behind what caused their death!]
To her horror, the horror-house Sakura spoke of was the actual orphanage, where the owner of her body grew up. A place she tried very hard to protect and even went as far as to ask one of the yanderes out to be her boyfriend just to keep it safe from this girl's clutches.
The ghosts she showed was.. definitely the dead children. The fake blood decorations are probably real too.
They're real blood. The children's blood.
She felt like vomiting.
"Human! Are you okay?"
"Th-they killed.. orphanage.. those kids are... they a-are real..."
She couldn't even find the right words to describe it.
Sakura was broadcasting her murder scene to the entire nation under the disguise of horror house. Within the corpses that were hanged from the ceiling on that video, she even recognized some of the children's face.
"Listen to me human! They're just trying to lure you out by those fake things. The kids are probably still alive"
"H-how do you know? They.."
"I know, just trust me. They think they can use them as a hostage to take you away. Also every humans of this world isn't real. You shouldn't worry about them that much"
Those words brought her back to reality.
She always used to repeat those words to herself, that this world is just something made of fiction.
Reacting like that was too stupid of her.
"Y-you're right.."
"Did you calm down human?! Do you want something to drink?"
Asuka's expression finally returned back to normal. But she can't help but have bad feeling about what she just saw. Her hands, which was trembling nonstop clung onto John's hand desperately.
"John.. promise me.."
"Yes?"
"Promise me to get me out of here no matter what. If things get worse just kill them. The capture targets, dark angel or even me. Don't make me go through another route again"
"H-how can I.." A cold sweat was forming on the back of his hand. To think she'd be this desperate to beg him to kill her... The honest follower of god felt extremely guilty for the unfortunate human.
That's why he couldn't refuse her.
"I... I'll try my best"
Even if he taint his honor as god's follower, he'd help this human.

Psyche Reflection
In the universe, Year 20XX, there exists people who are able to enter the cognitive realms of others and alter their perceptions and emotions, for better or worse. These people are known as "Divers" for their ability to dive into the psyche of others in a process called the "Psyche Dive". The cognitive realm is unique to each individual, hence it's also named the "Reflected World". There, one's innermost emotions and beliefs are materialised when the balance between the id (source of psychodynamic energy, represented by our desires and individuality.) and the superego (represented by our conscience and need to conform to society) is disrupted, with the id overpowering the superego more often than not.As a result, the excess psychodynamic energy on either side results in the formation of Spectres, ghost-like beings that haunt the ego (an individual's personality) and push a person to ruin by clouding his perceptions of reality, influencing his decision making in the process. If left unchecked, Spectres would continue to grow in number and power, eventually consuming the ego completely to form Demons within the person's psyche. At this point, it is extremely difficult to restore a person's id to its original state, as Demons are often extremely powerful and well-protected by their army of Spectres. People who are possessed by Demons are often twisted individuals who commit the most heinous of crimes, as they have lost all of their conscience and morals, fuelled only by their desires. The Divers are the last hope for humanity against the Spectres and Demons. Armed with the power to use their cognition to fashion into effective weapons against these abominations, the Divers seek to cleanse the minds of victims from such insidious influences. 21 year old Lee Jin Kai became a Diver abruptly on his first day as a University student, after a chance meeting with a beautiful foreign exchange student by the name of Aiko Verde. Despite having different motivations, the pair must now stick together, as they traverse the psyches of various people while gathering comrades, resolving real-world issues in the process... Inspired by Persona 5.
