《Wasn't looking for love till I found you.》14| Management and Works

Three days. It's been three obnoxious days since Jacob announced the event. Honestly, if I thought I would need to work so much for this, I would have never suggested it. It seems like I dug my own grave.

These three excruciating days were hectic for me, mostly because I had to do the office work as well as take care of the product's advertisement. My head was brimming with ideas, but I couldn't seem to put them to use. Jacob asked me to ignore the work in the office and focus more on the event, but I knew that all the other works would fall on my head like thunders after the event's over. That's exactly the reason, I placed my foremost focus is on the event; I completed minimal of my office works.

Being in charge of the management, Jen was also super busy, but she's mainly focusing on the event and has plenty of works left in the office. She hired an event management team for which, she had to be with them 24/7. Even I had to be present at various times to explain things to them, like how we would be inaugurating the product.

Suddenly, an idea formed in my mind. It exhilarated me, and I quickly dialed Jacob's number.

It rang a few times before the receiver received the call.

''Ms. Brown,'' He greeted, ''How may I help you?'' He added.

And, I told him what I had in my mind. After giving a brief explanation, he approved the idea.

''Well, it's a great idea but you need to talk to the event management people, about the timing and everything'' He said.

''Yes sir, I am just leaving the office'' I muttered on the phone, standing up and picking up my phone.

''Well, I will see you later then''

''Goodbye'' With that, I hung up the call.

I rushed downstairs hiring an Uber and walked through the glass doors putting the phone in my ears. The cold wind of late September hit my body making me shiver. Though, it felt nice. I always like the cold wind, the way they blew without the care of the world, is something I always wanted to be a trait of mine. They never cared if they were hurting people, they just did what they felt like. But at the same time, that's exactly what makes me, me, my feelings make me. If I didn't have feelings or emotions, I wouldn't have been a human.

After a few rings, the person received the call.

''Hello,'' the person on the other side muttered gruffly.

''Why hadn't you been receiving my calls or returning my calls?!'' I exclaimed on the phone.

''Uh-shut up!'' he groaned.

''You shut up! What is wrong with you? Where are you? Are you not coming back?'' I cried.

''Ells, it will take more time'' Jake muttered quietly.

''Where are you, Jake? Are you fine?'' I sighed through the phone, though my voice laced with concern.

For the last couple of weeks, I had been trying to reach Jake, but he was just not receiving any of my calls or returning them, he would just answer some of my texts with simple short answers like, 'Yeah' or 'Will do'.

''Yeah,'' he replied tightly.

''What is wrong, Jake?'' I asked softly.

''It's nothing Ells, don't worry I will be back soon'' he assured me trying to be cheerful but miserably failed.

''Jake'' I drawled his name sternly.

''It's just about the business, Ells, nothing more'' He groaned. Somehow, I knew he was lying. He always did, he never shared any of his problems with me, ever.

But before I could question he changed the topic.

''How are you? Are you fine? '' He emphasized.

''I am fine Jake'' I rolled my eyes and entered the Uber that arrived.

''So, how is the new company?'' He asked, while I gently placed myself in the car, with one of my hands clutching the phone. Motioning the driver the drive, I spoke,

''It's good, Jake. I can see myself perfectly fitting there. The people are so friendly and everyone is so welcoming and accepting'' I softly told him with a small smile on my face.

''I am happy for you Ells'' He softly replied, I knew he was smiling.

''When are you coming back?'' I asked.

''Not sure, but I will come back soon'' he replied.

After a very long time, I and Jake spoke this long. We spoke about many things, football, my parents, Theo, and then how he was the heartthrob of his school or how was also known as the heartbreaker, just like his elder brother.

Talk about cliché.

''He is my brother after all'' Jake replied with a laugh, but it strained after a while.

''He is'' I muttered softly.

''Ells, I gotta go, I will call you back soon''

''Wait!!'' I exclaimed.

''Whaaaat?'' He groaned.

''You didn't take your car with you right?'' I asked biting my lower lip and sounding hopeful.

''I didn't'' he replied but sounded confused.

''Listen, I don't have a car and I cannot afford to travel with an Uber 24/7 alright. I need your car'' I stated.

''No way! My baby is not safe with you'' he exclaimed.

''Stop being over-dramatic Jake, I have my license'' I rolled my eyes.

''No, it's a big N-O'' He spelled.

''I know how to spell it'' I rolled my eyes, ''you know, now the cases in Uber are getting higher. And they say it's not safe at all'' I smirked, knowing I hit the bullseye. He loudly groaned.

''OKAY, you can take the keys from Sebastian, Smartass.'' He grumbled.

''Will do'' I cheerily replied.

''Ells, please be careful with her'' He pleaded.

''I will, bye'' I rolled my eyes and hung up the call before he could change his decision.

The air outside indignantly bustled. As I looked outside the window, I saw how the images of cars and people were getting blurred. Sometimes, I wonder where I am standing. Is it high above the mountains or low deeper in the sea? My life is chaos, but, whatever happens, I know there are 5 five people who will always support me and stand beside me, protecting me like a wall. I closed my eyes as their images filled my eyes.

The love of a family, I don't think many are lucky to receive that. I call myself a fortunate one, to feel what having a family is like. No matter how irritating both my brothers are, they are my haven along with my parents, at the end of the day.

The car came to a halt bringing me out of my thoughts. Stepping out of the car, I stood in front of the dull hall, where after a week the event will take place. A few people were rushing in and out giving me the idea that they were still working.

After paying the Uber bill, hopefully, I will not be hiring one anytime soon, who am I kidding; I'll need one while going home. Rolling my eyes at myself I walked inside the lusterless hall. Stepping in my eyes caught the sight of a specific Blondie who was now scolding one of the workers. The more I approached her the more I caught the worry in her face.

''I wanted baby pink, not Magenta!'' She exclaimed at the scared little puppy-I mean, man.

''yes, ma'am'' The guy whimpered.

''Go!" She roared and the boy scurried away bearing his life.

I rubbed her shoulder standing beside her, she sighed, she didn't need to turn around and see who it was.

''Calm down and sit for a while'' I murmured and brought a chair for her to sit.

''I swear, I will get grey hairs soon'' She muttered, sitting and gulping water from her bottle.

''I asked you to call me when you need help'' I pointedly told her.

''It slipped my mind'' She shrugged, ''and I know how much busy you already are for the product, I didn't wanna hamper you''

''You wouldn't'' I rolled my eyes, ''now tell me what to do'' I added.

''Yes Ma'am'' She rolled her but still her lips curved.

She asked me to help her with the multimedia, which was great for me as I could talk to them about the product's launching as well. As I approached them, I was greeted by a group of new adults, they looked like they recently hit their twenties, and with a smile on my face, I reduced the distance between us.

''Hey,'' I gently called out with a smile. They stopped their bickering and stared at me; a boy who wore a pair of glasses and was tall and skinny replied my greeting nodding his head. Soon, I explained what sort of media we wanted and my plan with the product's opening. Which surprisingly, they thought was not very difficult to commence. I got to know they their team were college drop-outs and were handling multi-media events. The tall, skinny boy was their leader.

Furthermore, it impressed me to know that, they were the ones paying the others, as in they were all leaders of the whole event management.

Impressive.

Kids, nowadays are talented, only if they would use it properly.

Why did I just sound like a 35-year-old mother?

Never mind.

In a twinkling, the drowning of the sun could be seen from the windows.

How long had it been?

''I am so tired'' Jen yawned, standing beside me.

I took the water bottle and gulped some water, which felt like the elixir of life, to my thirsty throat.

''Okay guys, see you tomorrow'' Jen weakly said in the almost empty hall.

''Do you want me to drop you?'' She asked looking at me. I wanted to say sure, but watching her already so tired, I didn't want to hamper her.

''No, it's fine. Thanks'' I replied with a smile. She rolled her eyes.

''Come on, I know you don't have a ride'' She said standing up and walking towards the door.

''No-'' she cut me off.

''Come!'' She said more loudly this time, making me walk faster towards her.

She rolled her eyes getting inside her car.

''Thanks,'' I whispered gratefully.

''You know I thought we are friends. So, can you please stop being so good all the damn time'' She huffed, reversing her steering wheel, making me laugh.

''I just didn't wanna be a burden to you''

''You are not and you never will be'' She replied narrowing her eyes at me.

''Yes, Ma'am'' I replied with a roll of my eyes but a smile escaped on my lips.

The car ride was filled with me and Jen talking and laughing at our own jokes and gossips. The more I got to know Jen the more, I loved her. She was amazing, she was friendly, she was talkative and funny, she was everything, I had always wanted in my best friend.

I didn't how much time we spent but soon she parked her car in my basement.

''That's me'' I muttered.

''That's you'' She smiled, making me shake my head in laughter.

''Goodbye,'' I said and stepped out of the car.

''Goodbye,'' She winked and rolled her tinted glassed windows, reversing her car.

And soon, her black Premio was out of my sight.

I made my way towards the elevator with a sigh and was greeted by the feminine robotic voice. Soon, the elevator dinged, and I stepped out, searching for the key in the bag.

Standing in front of the door, I turned the key in the doorknob which opened with a 'clutch'. Stepping inside the flat, I inhaled deeply and exhaled. My toes were vandalized with the markings of the tight heels I wore.

Taking the heels in one of my hands, I started walking towards my way room. I stopped in my tracks when I heard the sound of people roaring in-stadium coming from the living room.

Someone was watching the TV.

Before I conclude who was watching, I heard footsteps approaching.

''You are home'' The blue-eyed devil greeted.
