《Wasn't looking for love till I found you.》7| Office room and Cupcake

Stepping through the glass doors, I was met by the tempting aroma of the coffee, paper, and ink. It was a massive building, but the insides were much grander. The floor was covered with off-white tiles, and the walls were white with many paintings, diplomas, and designs on them. A big chandelier was placed in the center, and it was both entrancing and gorgeous. There were numerous large rooms visible through the glass-covered walls, but they were all sealed.

I turned around and proceeded towards the reception area, where a tall, slender lady with a blue pencil skirt and a sleeveless blouse was beaming down and talking on her phone.

"All right, baby, I can't wait to sit on your mouth." As I approached her, she huskily murmured on the phone, making me turn as red as a tomato.

" Oh Baby, you can take me in any position you want." She laughed huskily as she went on. I wish I could be swallowed by the ground right now. With an uncomfortable throat clearing, I drew her attention to me.

"Uh-baby, I've had to leave; I'll call you later," she says and blushed.

''Can't wait as well; be rough tonight'' She hung up the phone after whispering the last part, causing me to cough loudly.

She looked at me with a wide smile on her face.

"You must be?" she said, lifting her brows, all professional.

"Arabella Oliver Brown," I responded, letting out a breath and smiling.

"Of course! I've heard a lot about you. You aced getting a job at this place right after college." She said passionately, prompting me to nod with a gentle grin. Something within me told me that she might not be that bad and that we can be friends?

While she was going through my paperwork, I blurted out, "I'm sorry."

"You're sorry about what?" she inquired, giving out a tentative chuckle but still looking perplexed.

"I shouldn't have heard-" she cut in.

"It's OK," she responded suavely, waving her hands.

"Thank you" I informed her with a nod, and she raised her eyebrows at me.

"You do realize you're different, right Arabella?" She remarked with a slight smile.

"Jenna, you may call me Jen," she says. She extended her right hand for a handshake, which I gratefully accepted with a grin.

"Nice to meet you, Jen; you may call me Ella," I said, smiling.

"Well, the pleasure is entirely mine. Come on, let's take you to your new office," she grinned at me as she stepped away from her desk. We proceeded towards the elevator as other employees stood nearby, all of them were greeting and conversing with one another.

"Hello, gentlemen," Jen said as she stepped in front of the elevator, a charming grin on her face.

They all returned Jen's greeting with gorgeous smiles on their faces.

"Who is that?" A man with glasses with blond hair inquired, scrutinizing me from head to toe.

"How could I forget?" she smacked her forehead. "Gentlemen, meet Arabella Oliver Brown, she'll be replacing Mr. Black," She introduced me cheerfully.

And that's when they all started praising me for my accomplishment. They all seemed extremely pleasant and nice from the way they spoke. Something tells me that the office might not be as awful as I had imagined.

''Hey Jen, is your boy toy still around? If not, then just give me a call'' A man in a grey suit with a beard said winking at her.

''Thank you so much but your dick cannot satisfy my needs'' She told him flatly, dismissing him with her hands while I coughed my own spit.

I knew there was a reason I liked her.

While the rest of the room burst out laughing, the man in the grey suit flushed. I expected him to react, but instead, he joined in the merriment, mumbling,

''Bitch''

"You know, I am one," Jen smirked at him, and he amusedly shook his head.

I gazed at him for longer than necessary, and he must have sensed it because the next thing I knew, he was gazing at me.

''What?'' He inquired, rather uncomfortably.

'

'Nothing, it just-it's just-'' he interjected me.

"You thought that dick remark would bruise my ego?" He inquired, raising his eyebrows, while the others in front of the elevator were preoccupied with their own commotion. I gave a nod.

"Jen and I have known each other for a long time, and it's common for us to make comments like that, and just because she claimed it's little doesn't mean it actually is." He said, leaning against me, "You want to check it out?" He whispered the last part with a wicked gleam in his eyes.

"Uh-no, thanks," I said as I stepped away from him. While he burst out into laughter.

"Calm down, I'm only kidding," He told me with a glint of amusement in his eyes.

''Maver'' He informed me as he moved his hands forward.

''Arabella'' I responded by shaking his hand.

"I hope I didn't scare you?" he said, his grin lopsided.

"No, no, not at all," I reassured, an uneasy smile on my face.

"I certainly did." He answered with a chuckle and stepped into the elevator, which had just opened.

I came in and stood next to Jen. The elevator climbed, and one by one, everyone departed on each floor; it was on the seventh floor that Maver began to exit, not before remarking,

"See you around Arabella," he says with a wink, causing Jen to roll her eyes.

"Ignore him, he's a big flirt," she said.

''Yeah,'' I sighed and lowered my gaze.

"I apologize if he made you feel uneasy. "I'll talk to him," Jen said tenderly, massaging my arms.

''No, no don't. It's just, he reminds me of someone," I explained hastily.

Someone I'd rather not be reminded of.

"Are you sure? You don't want me to talk to him about it?" she said, her brow furrowed.

"Of course! And being upset over anything like this would be so uncool." With a smile, I informed her it was perfectly alright if he was just flirting and that he doesn't appear to be all that bad.

No one appears to be bad to you.

I mentally rolled my eyes at myself.

"That's correct, a little flirting doesn't harm," she said with a wink. It's something she appears to do frequently.

The elevator tinged one more time before opening the door to my new office and a new beginning in my life.

"Follow me," he says. She was organizing my file as she stepped in front of me.

While going, I saw that there were numerous people on this floor, some of them were looking at me with surprise, some with interest, and others completely disregarded me.

Jen came to a halt and opened a glass door, exposing a small but elegant chamber. There was a computer table and a large shelf with many files on it.

"This is your office!" Jen happily exclaimed. My eyes expanded on their own. I mean, I wasn't prepared for this.

"Thank you," I said gently.

"If you need anything, simply dial 12121 and you'll reach me. Oh! Also, Mr. Black will stop over and discuss the job; until then, you may just study the files." She indicated the folders on the table. I happily nodded.

"Good luck!" She waved goodbye and exited my office.

I can't believe it, it's my office!

I sat on the chair, inhaled sharply, and began going over the files. During the review, I highlighted the things Mr. Black did while working, such as how he loved writing tiny notes on the side of the page or how he emphasized the figures that needed to be rechecked. It was interesting to see how knowledgeable this man was.

It frightened me that I wouldn't be able to live up to the standard he had set for me.

I was so engrossed in my job that I didn't notice the passing of time. A gentle tap on my door jolted me out of my stupor. I straightened up and rose from my chair, assuming it was Mr. Black.

But it wasn't him; it was a lady with a broad smile who could brighten anyone's life with happiness and brightness. It was Jen.

"Sit down, captain, the old gentleman has yet to come." She rolled her eyes, however, they sparkled with mischief. She went in and sat across from me on the chair, placing a packet on the table.

''Soooo, this box was brought for you by a very handsome man, may I say," she said with a smile on her face.

In perplexity, I wrinkled my brows. The first thing that sprang to me was his, but that was impossible because he didn't know where I worked, and no one knew where I worked except Jake and my family, who were not present.

So, who could it possibly be?

I lifted my right brow as I examined the packaging, and then it clicked! I flipped the box where it said 'Sweet tooth,' and a recollection from the morning flashed across my head.

''Oh my goodness! Stop the car! Stop the car!'' I exclaimed.

''What happened?'' Sebastian slammed on the brakes in the midst of the busy road.

"Purchase those cupcakes for me!" I informed him eagerly, bouncing like a little kid, and pointed to the small pink shop, while he groaned loudly, which was followed by a thousand horns behind us.

It warmed my heart that he remembered and got these for me. Though, he was being an asshole at that time.

'''Hmm, I see, he is someone special'' Jen remarked, smirking.

''What no! I know him only for one day!'' I told her indignantly, shaking my head.

Special? Puh-leez.

"Whatever you say," she sighed, but a wicked spark remained in her eyes.

"He was really hot, though," she smirked as she stood up, making me groan.

"Just telling," she said as she exited the office.

And just as I was about to open the package, her head sprang out again.

"I'm sure his lips would be even tastier," she said as she hurried away, laughing.

''Jen! " I exclaimed, as my cheeks became a darker shade of crimson.

I smiled as I shook my head and ate the cupcakes. I mentally made a mental note to thank him later.
