Days, weeks have passed since Jimin's mother locked Taehyung in the basement.
Planning has been going pretty slow, even though both Umji and I have been going to my mothers house everyday.
My mother keeps changing things, dragging it out. She wont even let me see Taehyung anymore.
I sigh as I open the door to the house, stepping inside.
"Hello?" I say, walking into the living room.
Nobody responds so I wait a few more minutes before making my way towards the basement door. This might be the only time I get the chance to check on him.
As soon as I put my hand on the cold metal door handle, the door swings open, making me jump back.
My mother emerges from the basement, holding a bloody knife.
She looks up at me, surprised since she didn't notice me at first.
"What were you doing?" She asks, hiding the knife behind her back.
"What is this?" I ask, yanking her arm out from behind her back, revealing the knife. "What were you doing?"
A smirk forms on her face as she yanks her hand back from my grasp.
"I was just having some fun,"
"You hurt him didn't you?" I say, getting mad.
"Shh, Umji will be here any minute," She says, making her way to the kitchen. I follow her and she rinses the knife off.
"What did you do?" I say more firmly.
"I already told you, I had some fun," She says, laughing. "Don't worry, he's not dead,"
"Let me see him!" I yell.
My mother turns around, no longer smiling. She point the knife at my neck.
"Don't raise your voice at me,"
"Hello?" A female voice says from nearby.
My mother quickly drops the knife into the sink and leaves the kitchen, greeting the girl.

"Umji! My daughter-in-law," She says, putting on a warm smile. "How are you?"
"I'm great, eomma," Umji replies, smiling back. "How are you?"
"I'm good. Now lets get to planning, shall we?"
Umji nods and looks at me, giving me a smile.
I give her a fake smile back and we follow my mother into the living room.
"Now, which cake flavor have you chosen?" My mother speaks.
♡ ♡♡
I slouch down and couch, blood coming out of my mouth.
I groan and close my eyes due to the pain. I sit up and throw my head back.
The new cuts on my stomach and arms are still bleeding freely and they sting really bad.
"Ah, she did more than normal today," The man who I met when I first got here says. I learned his name was Baekhyun.
He walks towards me with bandages and starts wrapping my cuts. I wince at the pressure.
"I brought you some food, I know she doesn't feed you much," Baekhyun says, walking away for a minute before returning with a bag. "I'm surprised she actually let me leave the other day,"
Baekhyun's a really nice guy once you get to know him.
Baekhyun is actually Jimin's half-brother. Jimin's father had an affair with another women who gave birth to Baekhyun and when Jimin's mother found out she hated him.
He's a few years younger than Jimin and I, which was really surprising to me.
Jimin's mother rarely lets him leave the house and she locks him down here, not letting him go to school. Baekhyun was 11 when Jimin's mother found out, so he doesn't have much education.
Even though he's locked down here, he has some freedom. He's not allowed to talk to anyone else in the family but Jimin's mother still feed him more than me and lets him leave sometimes.

He unties my wrists, which he does every time Jimin's mother leaves, and hands me a bag of chips.
"I know it's not healthy but you need to eat something," He tells me. "I know she hasn't fed you for a few days,"
I stare at the food before looking up at Baekhyun gratefully. I open the bag with all my strength and start eating.
Even though Jimin's mother lets him out, she never gives him money so he has to steal food and clothes to survive. she doesn't let him out enough to get a stable job so he isn't able to earn any money.
"Thank you," I say in between bites. He nods and opens a bag for himself.
The basement door opens, letting more light into the room and startling both Baekhyun and I.
"Hello?" An unusual feminine voice asks from the top of the stairs.
We snap our attention to the top of the stairs and I see a small figure. I quickly recognize it as Umji and she rushed down the stairs.
"Oh my god, what happened to you guys?" She asks, full of concern.
"Please help us," I say desperately. "Please Umji, you're our only chance,"
Baekhyun looks at me confused and I nod reassuringly at him.
"How did you get down here?" Baekhyun asks.
"I said I was using the bathroom but I thought something was wrong since Jimin's mother is always suspicious and I felt like she was hurting him and he kept mentioning about some guy and she wouldn't let me come near this door so I lied so I could check it out," She rambles. "Why are you here?" She asks worriedly.
"Jimin's mother is crazy, she locked me in here and she's hurting me and-"
"Umji?" A voice comes from the top of the stairs.
We look up and see Jimin standing in the doorway.
"Come on Umji, you know you're not supposed to be in here," He says.
"I-I" She stutters. "Why are you doing this?"
Jimin walks down the stairs quickly and grabs Umji's arm.
"Mother's going to be upset when she finds out you came down here,"
"Let me go," Umji struggles, pulling against Jimin. But Jimin's strength pulls her up the stairs.
He glances back at me before shutting the door, leaving the room darker again.

With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here
