I wake up, hearing muffled but loud screams coming from downstairs. It's happening again. I sit up and lean against the wall, curling up into a ball. It all started last year. My dad had become more distant from us, saying that he was busy with work and everything. My mom believed him. He used to stay up all night talking on the phone in a hushed voice, and sometimes he would leave randomly and not come back for a while.
I never knew what happened. One night my parents started arguing. My mom was upset about how my dad was always gone and never seemed like he cared about her anymore. That's when we found out he had been having an affair with another woman. My mom found out that he had lost his job over a year ago, and had been with the other women the whole time.
My dad was mad, the other lady wanted to stop meeting with him. My dad became an alcoholic after that. He and my mom had more arguments and fought a lot more, but tried to hide it from me. Sometimes it got really bad, and he would start hitting her.
This happens often, me waking up hearing my mother's screams, but I can't do anything about it or he'll kill me.
A loud bang is heard followed by a scream from the lower floor, the bang being a newer noise than normal. I put my head in between my knees as tears flow down my cheeks. I try to muffle my sobs when I hear footsteps coming up the stairs. The smell of alcohol fills the room as my father swings the door open.
"Now that I got rid of her I can get rid to the next biggest mistake in my life," My father says as he comes closer to me, looking like a maniac.

"You worthless piece of shit," He yells in between punches. I can feel myself bruising already, my lower lip started to bleed. I cry harder due to the pain. "You were a mistake. No one is going to love you."
I let out a cry as I try to escape from his grip. I eventually get out of his grip as he starts to get tired from hitting me so many times, the alcohol slowing down his body functions.
I stumble down the stairs, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in my legs. I run through the living room and see my mother lying on the floor in a puddle of blood surrounding her. He killed her.
Tears flow down my cheeks again as I run out of the house, not paying attention to where I go.
I stop at a bus stop a few streets away from my house. My dad would probably be passed out from drinking too much, he won't come chasing after me.
I start to cry again. I have nowhere to go.
"Are you okay?" I look to my right and see a small raven haired boy sit down next to me.
I shake my head and start sobbing harder. A lady walks up to us and the boy runs up to her. I see him talk to her before she walks up to me.
"What's wrong?" She asks, bending down to be eye level with me, noticing the bruises and blood I have on my face. "Who did this to you?"
"M-my appa," I say with a shaky voice.
"Poor thing, That's terrible." Her eyes widen. "You can come stay with us tonight okay? I'll treat your wounds."
"Ok," I nod and stand up with her help. She puts me on her back and starts walking.
"I'm Mrs. Jeon by the way," she tells me and the boy looks up at me. "How old are you?"
"I'm T-taehyung," I say. "I'm eleven."
"I'm Jungkook!" The boy says, smiling at me. "I'm ten and a half years old."

Updates at least every Monday, Thursday, and every other Sarturday, (from 26/11/2021). This is primarily a story exploring what it means to be human, using a lens of a hopefully real-feeling fantasy world. This story is not a power fantasy or a traditional Litrpg , while it has elements of these genres, it will focus on how these tropes would influence real people and possibly Redshirt will break some of these tropes along the way. There will be a variety of different characters and perspectives, some you hate, some you love, and some that will frustrate. Just as all people do. I don't believe there will be anything overly traumatic or explicit, but it's better to be safe than sorry. There will be some heavy topics explored, the characters views do not reflect the authors; however, if there is an issue in how I present/understand these issues please do tell me, and I will try my best to rectify it.
