"She said she went for a night walk when that woman chased after her. I jumped in in wolf form to protect her but when I transformed and returned it seemed as though she thought a woman and a wolf tried to attack her but she got away. She doesn't seem to know anything when I took her to my place to patch a scratch on her ankle after. She ended up crashing at my house and I took her home this morning. She's fine." I said giving the whole, or at least what I wished to share of the report of what happened that night. I heard Jake grumble as Sam spoke again.
Paul pov:
"Very well. This y/n may have a target on her from that encounter, you know how these beast are they tend to stalk their prey. Paul and Jake look after her and report back if there's any suspicious activity. Otherwise the rest of you patrol as I said before. Now let's eat Emily didn't slave away all morning for nothing!" He said with a smile before digging in with the rest of the boys following. I couldn't eat the word prey kept repeating in my head. My y/n could be prey to a sadistic cold one and she could be in danger right now?? I stood from my spot as that thought passed my mind.
"May I be excused to start patrol?" I asked Sam eagerly and I'm sure they could all sense the worry radiating off of me in waves. With a wave of his had I was already pounding through the yard towards my car. I threw open the door before climbing in and taking off down the driveway. Before making it halfway to Billy's a large brown wolf appeared before me and a second later Jacob was climbing into the passenger seat.

"Might as well give me a ride home since you're going that way" he said with a strained chuckle. I continued driving before he spoke up again.
"Hey, it's weird for me to imagine you and my cousin together but you're already my family so there's no hard feelings here." He said slightly punching my shoulder in a very dude-bro type fashion with a smile. I smiled back for a moment letting my nerves ease up.
"Thanks." I said with a smile as we approached the house and I pulled into the driveway. We got out of the car and walked into the house, it had only been about three hours since I had dropped y/n off but her scent still crashed through me like a truck. It calmed me a bit to know she was safe. As I walked through the house though it was entirely too quite for my liking as I followed Jake to the kitchen.
"I think she's asleep." Jake said chucking as he grabbed a glass of water.
"I'll go wake her up if you want?" Jake offered, but I just shrugged.
"Nah, let her sleep she had a tough night." And with that we went about hanging out. We decided to watch some tv while we waited and after a while I was able to relax.

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
