《I'm in Corpse Party?》Chapter 5

Suddenly you heard a young girl scream, "Big brother!!! Where are you!!!" You started running towards the sound when another, deeper voice yelled out. "Yuka!! Big brother is right here!! Where are you going?! Yuka!!" Followed by insane laughter. 'Oh Kizami, I'm so so sorry. You heard me scream Yuka didn't you? That's why you're obsessed with her, because you feel like I was close with her, making her the last remaining part of me you could have.' You fought the tears as you continued running. Every now and then, you could hear Yuka scream or Kizami call out or laugh. The halls seemed to go on forever, but after a while you finally saw a familiar little girl in a blue smock run into a room and you followed her. "Yuka? It's okay I'm not going to hurt you." You called into the darkness. Suddenly the lights flickered on and a grotesque anatomical model laughed, causing Yuka to scream. You instinctively pulled her back behind you, protecting her from what was left of a once beautiful man. Once Kizami saw you he froze. "(Name)? T-that's not possible. She d-died. I saw her, I held her. I-it's not possible..." tears spilled from your eyes. "Kizami. It is me. And I love you dearly. But what you intend to do, is unforgivable." After a moment he started laughing again. "But isn't this what you wanted? You said it didn't matter how we die, so I took the liberty of making sure your special person didnt die in a terrible way at the hands of those children. Just like...you did." Yuka whimpered behind you and you pulled her closer. "Kizami, please stop. We can escape, just like we were supposed too. Remember?" His laughter turned into cackling. "As if! All my friends are dead! I cant get back! And what life would I have? Looking the way I do!" His insane laughs echoed until you said, "A life with me. Where I love you." He was instantly silenced by your reply. But before he could say anything, a blonde boy came from behind and whacked his head so hard with a pole that it flew off. You were jerked back to the task at hand and yelled out, "Yoshiki! Quickly! Take Yuka and Ayumi and go meet up with the others!" He was confused but you knew that time was of the essence. For an unpleasant guest was about to make his appearence, with a big surprise too. You were shoving them out the door to Ayumi when a large man appeared on the other side of the room. Ayumi and Yoshiki yelled for you to come with them, but you knew what you had to do. All of them would die if this guy wasn't delayed. If it was a distraction they needed, a distraction they'd get. You slammed the exit shut and turned around. "Well your an ugly son of a bitch aren't you?" You taunted. He appraoched slowly, and right when his hammer was about to come down on your head, you dodged and ran past Kizami's body, and out the way he entered. The chase was unbearably tiresome. But once you had led him as far away as you could from where you knew the others had to go, you fell to the ground on your knees. The sound of footsteps was accompanied by the occasional moan or yell. He stopped behind you and you closed your eyes, waiting for the pain of your skull being split open. He gave one final moan before you heard the hammer whir past the air, and you accepted the flash of agony followed by darkness.

Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
