《Boogeyman》9

Meir looked down at the fetus clearing his throat.

"This type of thing is the reason I got banished from heaven in the first place. Oh well, not like I can come back."

He touched the baby, almost full term. "No one can ever say I've never done anything from the kindness of my dead heart."

The baby coughed, her face pulling to a wince before she began screaming.

Meir wrapped her up gently. "She wanted you. She loved you. I think...she'll live well if even if she never sees you. She'll know."

He picked her up transferring them to an orphanage. "Now, you must keep hidden. Never seek your mother. Never trust those Angels. And never, ever ever use the power I've given you."

The baby cried softly.

"Lily. That's the name your mother gave you. Live well."

Meir turned his back, listening the child cry. He waited. No one answered the door. He sighed with a wince.

Before turning back. "Well...I suppose I can't leave you just yet. I just broke Fate for you. It would a waste if you starved to death."

A few months passed. Lana discarded the entire experience as a nightmare. She put it in a folder in her mind, and tucked away. Him, the baby, the angel, all of it.

She looked out at the skyline. There had been a sudden uptick in murders in the city. They kept coming closer. Entering her radius.

She had a sinking feeling he'd returned. She looked up at the letters that had peeled off the walls. Lily. She touched them, before going into the kitchen.

He'd be coming back. There was no doubt about it. He'd steal her peace and maybe her soul. She salted the entrance, once more. It did nothing but give her a slight peace of mind.

"Police still have no clue who this mysterious killer is, but true crime enthusiasts are calling him 'The Boogeyman'. If you have any idea of his whereabouts—"

A chill filled the air. She glanced up.

It's been some time since I've seen you, Lana.

She looked around, throwing salt on her door step.

"Go away," she intoned.

He appeared, his hands around her hips. "You look well, Lana. I've missed you."

She looked back at him. "I couldn't say the same."

"Oh...so hurtful dear," he kissed her shoulder tenderly, taking in her scent.

"Why have you been killing people," Lana demanded gently.

He chuckled. "In my defense, I was hungry. I would prefer your soul, but in lieu of that..."

"They're looking for you." Lana frowned. "I don't want them tracing you back to me. Matter of fact, stop killing people around here. You made a circle around my house of dead bodies. You don't think they're gonna start looking at me."

He chuckled lowly, his deep rumbling voice sending a shiver down her spine.

"You've become very demanding. Where was the scared little creature who begged me not to bite her?"

"I never begged."

He pulled her hips back, into his smirking. "And what a pity," he whispered in her ear.

She shifted feeling his erection pushing against her. "What are you doing Meir?"

"That such a tired question, and I think if you ask it again, I'm going to snap your neck," he grinned kissing her shoulder once more. "Hm?"

She rolled her eyes, but nodded. He was touchy. He always was but even more so now. Like he knew he owned her.

She sighed.

"I brought you a gift," he purred in her ear, putting his arms around her and holding his gloved hands.

She looked down. It was a small skull barrette.

"What is it?"

"Hm...it's important to you, you just don't know it. I'll put it in your hair."

He carefully put it in her curls, smiling. "There it suits you too. Now, I have to go. I'm hungry."

He kissed her neck gently. "I'll come back for you tonight." He whispers.

"What are you coming back for," she insisted, not bothering to refute his displays of affection. It was much better than the fear tactics he used.

He shrugged. "We'll catch up Hm? I'll post pone the end of the world for three days if you don't make a fuss about it."

"Oh? Not a whole three," she responded facetiously.

"Indeed. A whole. Three. Days."

She waved him away. "Whatever."

He disappeared. Lana clenched her jaw, touching the barrette. She pulled at her barrette before leaving it alone. It was cute enough.
