《Just Business?》Alone

I called Trinity an hour before we were supposed to meet up. She was concerned about our talk the other night, so she was just making sure I was okay. She was also nosy.

"Hey Liv, what's up?"

"Nothing. What about you?"

"I'm fine. How are things with Bill?"

"They're going. I promised I'd talk to him after tonight and u will. I'm just kinda nervous about his response. I have a feeling tonight isn't gonna go well."

"Sh. Don't say that!"

"Okay. So we'll meet you at the restaurant in about 20 minutes?"

"Sounds great. I'll see you then."

We got to the restaurant and waited for Trinity and Nikko to show up. They showed up two minutes later, and we went in. Nikko already booked the reservation so we sat down immediately. As we sat down and looked at the menu, I saw Trinity's eyes widen.

"Are you okay, Tri?"

"Um yeah. I just need I go to the bathroom. Will you come with me?"

"Sure. I'll be right back, Bill."

We went to the bathroom, and I touched up my make up, while Trinity stood there fidgeting.

"Didn't you have to use the bathroom?"

"No! I wanted to talk to you alone."

"What is it?"

"There's a certain someone sitting pretty close to us, that you may not want to see."

"Who is that?"

"Mr. Wright and his girlfriend."

"No! Seriously? Tonight of all nights he picks the same restaurant."

"I know. Just ignore him. I just didn't want you to be surprised and then that raises questions for Bill."

"Thanks, Tri."

We went back to the table, and sat down next to our guys. We looked straight across the table at each other and not at Mr. Wright's table.

"Babe, why are you staring at Trinity?"

"She has lipstick in her teeth."

"Do I? Let me fix that. Thanks, Liv."

"No problem."

The waiter took our orders, and we sat in silence. Bill and Nikko were joking around talking about guy stuff, while Trinity and I were communicating silently. Bill looked over at me concerned.

"Are you okay, babe? You seem a little off."

"Oh yeah I'm fine."

I looked over at Mr. Wright and Lily. Lily was squeezing lemon in her water, and Mr. Wright was staring right at me. I smiled softly, and he smiled back. We both turned away, and I realized none of this is okay. The dinner ended and Bill and I went back to his place. We sat down on the couch.

"Babe, are you sure you're alright? You've been pretty quiet all night which isn't like you."

"I actually wanted to talk to you, but I don't know how to say it."

"Is it about us?"

"Yeah it is."

"Then tell me. You can tell me anything."

"Okay then. I think we're pretty boring."

"Huh?"

"Like our relationship is just the same old same old all the time. I want more."

"What more do you want?"

"I don't know. I want more spontaneity and passion. Instead of us always sitting on your couch on Friday nights, surprise me by coming over on a Thursday. Something I'm not expecting."

"Are you sure this is about us?"

"What do you mean?"

"You're speaking like you've known this passion before. Is this how it was with the other guy?"

"He has nothing to do with this."

"I'm not so sure about that. Olivia, you know I like you. I really do, but I think it might be for the best if we just break up."

"What?"

"You're still hung up on that other guy, and I don't feel like spending all of my time and effort on a girl who isn't one hundred percent into it."

"I am one hundred percent in."

"Olivia, we both know you're not. That's okay. Please don't cry."

"I'm so sorry, Bill. I really thought I was over it. I didn't mean to hurt you."

"It's okay. I'll be okay. I just hope this guy knows what he has before it's too late."

He kissed my forehead, and walked towards his room. I took his key out of my purse and laid it on the coffee table. I wiped my tears, and walked to the door. I left, and looked back hoping to see Bill running after me to tell me he was wrong. He didn't. When I finally got home, I changed and called Trinity. She answered.

"What's up, Liv? How did it go?"

"Bill broke up with me."

"He did what?"

"He realized that I was still hung up on the other guy and I was completely invested in us. I broke his heart, but he tried to make me feel better. I feel so bad."

"You should."

"Huh?"

"You had one of the greatest guys ever, who loved you more than himself, but you were too busy chasing after Mr. Wright to see that. Now that he's hurting, you feel bad, but not bad enough to try and work it out."

"It's not exactly that easy. If you like Bill so much, why don't you date him. He's available now."

"I don't jump from men to men like you."

Trinity must have realized what she said, but by then it was already too late. I hung up the phone, and cried even harder. I could deal with losing every man ever, but having my best friend mad at me was the worse feeling ever. Without Trinity, I don't know what I'll do. I trued calling her, but she wouldn't answer. I really am alone now, and that's exactly what I was afraid of.
