《Just Business?》Explain

It was finally the day of the gala. I was pretty nervous about showing up on Mr. Wright's arm. What would everyone think? I don't need rumors, and everyone at the company would think that's how I got my job. I am a woman of integrity. I was considering calling Mr. Wright and canceling. Then I thought about how embarrassed he would be to show up without a date and how that would make me look because I backed out of a promise. I decided to go. When 8 O'Clock came around, sure enough, there was a black limousine outside my house. I open my door, expecting to see the driver, but I saw Mr. Wright standing there with roses. He looked so handsome.

"Olivia, you look gorgeous. Here, these are for you as a thank you for accompanying me tonight."

"Mr. Wright, you shouldn't have. They're so beautiful. Thank you so much. I'll put them in some water and we can leave. You look very nice too."

"I really just wanted to thank you again for saving my ass."

"That is what you pay me for, Sir."

He laughed and we interlocked arms. He escorted me to the limo and opened my door like a real gentleman. He got in the other side, and we were gone. When we got there, the red carpet was swarmed with cameras. We got out and I was still on his arm. Everyone was asking questions.

"Mr. Wright, who is that? Is she your girlfriend? How long have you been together?"

"This is Olivia Hamilton. She's not my girlfriend."

"So you're still single?"

"Very much so."

"Good news ladies, Aiden Wright is still on the market. Snatch him up while you can!"

We walked down the red carpet and posed for pictures. After what felt like forever, we made our way inside. We sat at our table. His cologne wasn't helping me focus on something other than him. It smelled so good, and inviting. Snap out of it, Olivia. We were seated with some amazing celebrities that have supported this charity for a while. We were eating dinner, and even though all of the celebrities were very nice, I spent most of my time talking to Mr. Wright. Suddenly the president of the charity called the guest of honor, Mr. Wright, up to make his speech. I couldn't wait to hear what he had to say.

God, Olivia looked gorgeous tonight. It was impossible to keep my eyes and hands off her, but somehow I managed to not be so aggressive. We were sat with a lot of famous people. I knew most of them, and even though they were very friendly, I wanted to spend all of my time talking to Olivia. She is so smart and funny that conversations with her were always entertaining. Eventually I was called up to make my speech. I could feel Olivia's eyes on me as I walked on stage.

"Good evening. My name is Aiden Wright and I am the founder and CEO of Wright Inc. Recently, I've been called stingy and greedy in the tabloids and most people think I'm donating to shut people up. That's not the reason at all. I always wanted to help children who don't have as much as others. Even though I have a lot now, it wasn't always that way. Children are our future. We need to make sure they're well taken care of. I would like to help the less fortunate children of America which is why I'm donating half a million dollars to this wonderful organization tonight. Thank you so much for allowing me to help. It took me so long to donate to a charity because I wanted to make sure that it was the right one. after the research I've done, I am absolutely positive that this organization was the right choice. Please enjoy the party and encourage others to donate!"

Everyone applauded loudly and some people were even crying. Olivia sat there clapping, but didn't look impressed. When I sat back down, she didn't say a word to me. It was like that for the rest of the night. Then we got back in the limo, away from the cameras, and I asked her what was wrong.

"Olivia, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, Mr. Wright."

"Come on, Olivia. Don't be like that."

"Fine. I thought you were different than the rest of those young billionaire assholes, when in reality you aren't!"

"Olivia, what are you talking about? I thought we were having a nice time tonight."

"We were. Then you said your speech. You lied through your teeth the whole time. You said it wasn't because of the tabloids and you acted like the children are your biggest priority just so people would give you even more money! God, all you care about is your reputation and bank account."

"Olivia, not all of it was a lie."

"What part wasn't?"

"I've always wanted to help children and I wasn't always rich."

"Oh really?"

"Really?"

"Bullshit."

"It most certainly is not!"

"Prove it. Explain. I want the truth."

"Fine. You know Mr. Smith?"

"Yeah. The nice older man who does business with you."

"There's a reason I put him first. He's basically my father."

"Hmm?"

"My mother was a young college student. My father was a married man who liked to drink. As a kid I never saw him and because my mom was a single mother in college, things were tough. Then I met Mr. Smith. He raised me as his own and he basically is my father. He taught me all I know about business. I promised myself when I started my company that one day I'd do what he did for me to someone else. Poor children have always been my cause, because I can relate."

I saw her shoulders relax, and she sighed. She must've realized how ridiculous she sounded.

"Mr. Wright, I'm so sorry. I just remembered that you didn't do anything and then I arranged it and it didn't seem like you cared till now. I'm so sorry I judged you."

"It's okay, Olivia. I see how it looked bad. I don't exactly like to tell people about it."

"Then why did you tell me?"

I looked at her and I couldn't come up with an answer. Why had I told her? She was waiting for an answer. She looked up at me with those big brown eyes of hers, and I couldn't help it. I put on hand on the seat beside her leg, and the other grabbed her face. She didn't say anything, and just looked at me. I smiled and kissed her. She was surprised, but kissed back. With all of the women I've kissed, none of them made me feel the way she does. Maybe it was all the champagne I drank at the party, but it was amazing. Eventually we pulled away. Olivia seemed stunned, but didn't curse me out or smack me so I'd say that's a good sign. Besides what girl could honestly say she doesn't want me to take her out?
