《Just Business?》Job Hunting

I was sitting on the couch of my apartment, looking for a job. They teach you a lot when you major in business at a big college, but they don't teach you how to get a job once it's over. My best friend, Trinity, didn't even go to college, and she still has a better job than me. Maybe I should ask her for advice. I decided to call her.

"Hey, Trinity."

"What's up girl?"

"I was wondering something."

"What?"

"How did you get your job?"

"I don't understand."

"I've been looking for a job, and the best I could get is an office manager at a doctor's office."

"Oh, the job hunt isn't going well?"

"Not at all. Did you just walk in to one of the biggest companies and demand a job?"

"No. I was friends with the old receptionist. She had to quit because she was moving. She recommended me to take her spot though, and here I am."

"Oh. That's cool. I mean the manager position doesn't sound too bad right?"

"Yes. Yes it does. You're not working there."

"I need a job, Tri."

"I know you do, and I'm going to get you one. I'm going to get you an acceptable job here, and not in some doctor's office. You didn't spend 4 years in prison for that."

"You mean college?"

"Same thing!"

"How do you plan to get me a job there?"

"Mr. Wright's personal assistant is leaving. The guy has to take care of his sick mom or something. He put his two weeks notice in already. I'm sure you could get that position."

"Oh my god, that would be great!"

"Just to warn you, Mr. Wright is hot."

"I'm not worried. You and me don't really have the same taste in guys. You may think he's hot, but I probably won't."

"No. Liv, this guy is the kind of guy that every girl finds hot."

"If he's that hot, why haven't you gone after him?"

"I have Nikko. Not to mention, the man is like always single. Every female assistant he's had have thrown themselves at him, and he's either so clueless that he doesn't know, or he's just so emotionally stonefaced that he doesn't care."

"Hmm sounds like a typical rich guy. That sounds easy to work with, at least there would be no risk of us not being able to work around each other."

"Great! I'm going to email him right now."

"Okay. Just don't make me sound too desperate."

"No worries. I got you, girl."

"Thanks so much. I owe you one."

"Don't worry about it, that's what best friends are for. Could you email me your résumé so I could send it to him?"

"Sure. One sec."

I emailed her my résumé, and she sent it to Mr. Wright with her recommendation. I was so excited that I could be working at Wright Inc. It's every business major's dream to even meet the guy, but to be his assistant is crazy. I personally don't see the appeal of him, because he doesn't really do much but work. The other CEOs donate to charities, have partnerships with brands, and he just sits in that office. I mean whatever he does must work if he's on the Forbes Fortune 500 list. I hope that he considers me for the position. I know there are probably a lot more experienced candidates for the job, but this could really be my big shot. I could learn so much about such a big company. Not to mention, take lunch breaks with my best friend. I decide that I've had enough stress for one day, and called it a night early. When I woke up, I ran straight to my computer to check my email. I almost fell out of my chair when I see and email from Aiden Wright.

Ms. Hamilton,

It is my understanding that you have an interest in the personal assistant position. I have received your résumé as well as a recommendation from an employee that has worked here for two years. Please contact our human resources department to set up an interview at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

Mr. Aiden Wright

CEO and Founder of Wright Inc.

I honestly didn't think things would happen this fast. I just really need a job. I have student loans to pay off. This guy seems like a real business man. I gave the HR department a call.

"Human Resources, this is Bill speaking."

"Hi. My name is Olivia Hamilton. Mr. Wright said I should call you to set up an interview for the assistant position."

"Ah yes. When can you come in?"

"Whenever you want me to."

"I like that answer. How about an hour?"

"Sounds great. Thanks so much."

I got dressed, and rushed down to the office. I sat in the lobby with Trinity, until Bill came down to get me. I was so nervous that I'd blow my one shot of actually getting a job that I could make more money than I spent on school. I took a deep breath and followed him into his office.
