I stared down at my phone whilst facetiming Grace and Ella. I chewed on my thumb nail as I listened to them speak about how much they missed me there.
"I promise we will meet up somewhere after highschool." I told them, flashing them white teeth.
Grace nodded, "That would be awesome, but not in Florida."
We agreed, and I stood up to grab a coke out of the fridge. "How is Hayes?" Ella asked.
I pursed my lips, not meeting their gazes, "I don't really know, he has been distant, but I guess he's busy considering his career is becoming bigger."
"Just surprise him or something." Grace suggested. I bit my lip, eying the front door when I heard a knock.
"Who is that?" Ella looked at me. I made my way to the door, pulling at my shirt that ended right below my ass.
Swinging it open, I was surprised to see a random boy standing there. I ended the call, hiding my body behind the door.
"Sorry, my car broke down like three miles away from here. I knocked on other doors, but you were the only one that answered." he explained. I eyed his messy hair and tired eyes.
he stuffed his hands in the pockets of his sweatpants, waiting for me to reply. "Hi, do you need to come on or something?" I opened the door wider.
He brushed his fingers through his hair, "Yeah, my phone shattered because it dropped out of my pants when I got out of the car. Its not working. Can I just call my dad?"
"Sure, let me run up stairs while you do that." I handed him my phone quickly before jogging upstairs. I pulled on a pair of shorts, going back down after pulling my hair up into a pony tail.

"Yeah, car broke down....no, I walked and I'm using someone's phone....I don't know....but, like I need to go somewhere....why can't you just use your connections to get me a ride?...whatever, dad." he hung up and turned to see me standing there.
He bit his lip, "Sorry you had to hear that, but can I crash here tonight?"
"What's your name first?" I mused with a smile. He chuckled, "Ash."
"Okay, now that you're not a stranger, I am Malaya. You can crash on the bed in the guest room, my mom uses it as a storage place, but it ain't that bad." I explained.
He looked around the house, "Thank you, you're a life saver."
I nodded, "You want some pizza?" He only shrugged, standing around awkwardly.
"Sit down, you're making me nervous." I mumbled, retrieving my phone to order pizza. After, I texted Hayes.
baby; hayes :((
bubs; yesss honey??
baby; yknow i miss you right?
bubs; i miss you too
baby; i wanna see you
bubs; then lets facetime baby
baby; ookkkk
I smiled, waiting for him to accept it.
"Hey, baby." he winked, his unruly hair fanning over his forehead. He looked tired, squinting at this light of the phone.
I smiled wider, "Hey, what are you doing?"
He shrugged whilst yawing, "Laying down. I wish you were here right now."
I nodded with a sigh, glancing at Ash, "I would come over, but I don't want this guy being alone in my house."
I switched the camera around so Hayes could see him. "Now I really want you over here." Hayes groaned out.
I pouted, "Why?"
"I want me to be the only boy in the house with you while you be looking that fucking cute." Hayes explained as I pursed my lips.

I winked, "You really think I want anyone other than you?"
"Yeah, you could find better." Hayes mumbled with a sigh. He brushed his hair out of his forehead, "Why is that guy there, anyways?"
I sighed, chewing on my thumb nail again, "He showed up at my door because his car broke down and his phone is broke. His dad wont pick him up so he really has no other choice but to crash here."
I explained it quietly enough for Ash not to hear. Hayes suddenly sat up through the screen, "I'ma come over."
"Really?" I stared at him as he chuckled at my big smile. He sat his phone to where it faced the ceiling, "Yeah, bye baby, I'll see you in a minute."
I ended it and ran to the door when I heard the doorbell ring. The pizza delivery man stood there with two boxes of pepperoni pizza.
I quickly paid and sat the food down, "You can come eat." Ash walked in the kitchen with his head down.
"You really depress me, why don't you tell me what school you're attending this year?" I sat next to him on the barstool.
He took a bite of pizza, "Davidson Day."
My face brightened, "Same, I go there. And my boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" right when that came out of Ash's mouth, Hayes walked into the kitchen with a tired smile on his face.
I stood up and stashed the pizza in the fridge after Hayes and Ash declined another piece.
"Whats up?" Hayes nodded at Ash. Ash greeted him back before me and Hayes went up stairs in my room.
Hayes kissed me softly before staring into my eyes, "Ash can't take his eyes off you."
I only rolled my eyes, moving towards the bed to lay down, "I doubt that."
Hayes laid next to me before pulling me by his side, "I'm touring, so I have to leave tomorrow."
"What?" I looked at him in shock, "you're leaving?"
He nodded, "Yeah, don't worry, its only two months." I bit my lip, "Only?"
Hayes tugged me under his body as I avoided his gaze, glaring at the wall. "Baby?" Hayes whispered with a frown.
I hummed and he leaned down to kiss my neck, "I love you so much."
I nodded and he continued to kiss up my jaw line until he got to the corner of my mouth.
He gripped my thigh and bent it next to his hip before trailing it to my inner thighs to squeeze. I watched as his eyes darkened before he moved his lips down on mine.
I arched my back, tugging him closer my grasping into his shirt. He grunted, slipping his tongue in my mouth.
I felt as he tugged at my lower lip with his teeth, releasing it to gaze down at my eyes, "Don't worry, babes, two months is gonna be nothing and we will be together again."
I nodded and closed my eyes, "Okay, lets just go to sleep."
He tugged me on top of him and laid his hand on my ass causing me to roll my eyes, "Don't be horny right now."
He huffed and I laid my head in the crook of his neck before mumbling 'goodnight.'
He kissed my neck, "Night, baby."
I let the tears slip out as I thought about him meeting another girl in those two months without me.
Maybe we should just take a break.

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
