《I should care because?》Schemes

So the competition ended with a surprising peace. Those they thought would win, didn't. And the queen, she mourned for her child, or so they thought.
They blamed the king, thought him heartless for he smiled as his child was missing, it didn't take long before someone else took the crown prince's place.
But it couldn't be, could it? Her friend's name was Nicholas, this person....isn't he called Aspen?
Or at least....they seemed to have vanished. Weeks passed on to months, and still no news of Keme, Angel, Skylar, Damon, James, and Kras.
Their parents combed through the forest, all except the kind, he was acting a bit off.
The citizens s blamed the king for being cruel, not taking the time to mourn before replacing the heir so quickly.
If Angel was there, she would be shocked, wouldn't she? Afterall, she should remember this person, wasn't he her first friend? The one that died?
-------------------------------------
They stayed quiet, an odd atmosphere surrounded them.
It was odd, Angel was acting very odd. Gone was her gullible smiles and cheerful eyes, there was something....off.
Dark, a little...ominous. They haven't gone home yet, it seemed like the forest never ended. They didn't notice it at first, too occupied with Angel suddenly becoming weak.
It seems like they've forgotten a small detail. When light mixes with dark, it becomes much easier to create illusions, play small tricks on your mind.
Surprising how fast I recovered. It seemed that this little girl wasn't as pure as one thinks she is. Perhaps she herself is pure, but her actions have led to the demise of many, in the end it adds up, doesn't it?
And so I will be back. Soon, very soon. But first, get rid of this priest.
Jame's was the only one who didn't notice anything off. There was a reason behind this, it was because Angelica (the one who possessed Angel) focused all the light energy towards him, just so that he wouldn't notice anything was off.

"Jame's?" Angel asked weakly. A hidden smile was playing behind her trembling lips, shielding her thoughts from the foreign intruder within her body.
Tears streamed down her cheeks, and Jame's looked at her in contempt, he simply couldn't see what was so good about her. If Skylar didn't place her with such high importance, he wouldn't have awknowledged her in the first place. Yet this made him worried, for he hasn't seen Skylar in what seemed to be years.
What worried him even more was the aura that followed them. Although he had tried to remove the ominous feeling, it felt like it was already integrated into the very atmosphere.
Of course it was integrated into the very atmosphere, this was the extact place where Angelica was 'killed'. How long did she mingle here until someoe weak enough stumbled upon her territory?
"What?" He asked annoyed.
"I-I," Angel indeed fet very itimidated, her voice started to die down slowly "ah, well...."
"Can you please talk louder?" Jame's asked, slowly walking towards her.
The he tripped on a rock, hit his head on a rock, and died.
"...." I guess that works too, Angelica thought, ignorng the feeling or horror that Angel was feeling upon seeing a dying person.
'Ah, I would've hoped for more bloodshed...isn't this just too anticlimactic? I suppose he should be thankful that he died now, any later and he would've truly died without a trace....not even a soul to be left. Heh, do they really think that I would be so easily killed?' It took much will power for Angel to keep herself from giggling and only leaking out a mischievous smile.
It was only then that Angelica remembered, priests were good at nearly everthing but they had a really bad physical constitution. Traveling all day and feeling stressed probably wore him down.

The other's just blankly stared on, the scene not registering into their minds. Wellx they never liked him in the first place...but they should have some integrity, right?
"I mean, anyone know healng magic?"
"Nope."
"First aid?"
"Nope."
"May he rest in peace."
Then they started walking, forward, not noticing that Angel didn't move a single inch just watching them leave with a peculiar smile. It wouldn't take long now, until they realized that they were just walking in circles.
Although it would normally be easy to see through such simple magic, it was a little harder when the caster was right next to them, inserting suggestions into their minds, making them think that this the trees they were looking at were different from the trees that they've seen before.
Though, the moment they saw Jame's dead body, the should snap out of the trance like state their experiencing at the moment.

As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Nestled deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, something is emerging. Kept in absolute secrecy, it seeps into a fading town, quietly shared from person to person. For Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate, this discovery could mean an escape from his empty existence. To Rachel DuValle, perpetually underestimated and dismissed by the world, magic represents a chance to become something much greater than herself. In the face of an unsuspecting world, their decisions shape the growth of a budding society discovering untold power. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. Want this story in smaller bites? Click here! The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed.
