To say Jisung was an utter mess was an understatement. He was more than that.
The young male couldn't stop thinking about the incident that happened just a couple days ago. Their faces were a mere few inches apart.
Jisung couldn't focus on his chemistry test. His thoughts were all clouded by a male named Zhong Chenle. It was annoying, but he couldn't help it.
It was so bad, he accidentally wrote Chenle's name on his paper instead of his own name. He was so close to just yeeting his test across the room and storm out of the room. Then go find Jaemin, drag him out of his class, and then rant about his undying love for his best friend over some milk tea.
So close.
But he sufficed, and managed to answer most of the questions on his test to the best of his ability. He placed his pencil down on his desk and buried his head into his crossed arms.
How was he supposed to hide his feelings now? If that small gesture made him freak out this much, then he was sure to blurt out his crush on the elder male at any given moment. That's why he's been 'discreetly' avoiding Chenle lately. So that his stupid feelings wouldn't grow, and so that he could learn to control it. Keep it tamed and contained.
What's worse though? Jieun was his seatmate in Chemistry. So she was seeing all of this happen right in front of her. She also caught the male accidentally writing down Chenle's name instead of his own name.
There was definitely something up with Jisung, and it certainly had something to do with her boyfriend.
Taking out a piece of scratch paper, Jieun started to write something down.
She gently nudged the male and slid the paper across to him.

Jisung raised his head a little when the female nudged him, taking a look at the piece of paper pushed in front of him. It took him a few seconds to register the few words written on the piece of paper.
Picking up his pencil, he wrote back to Jieun, then pushed the piece of paper onto her desk.
Jieun looked at the message, then wrote another message below it.
Once Jisung read the note, his cheeks started to turn a light pink. She noticed his slip up? Oh shit.
He passed it over to the female. For the rest of the period, the two just exchanged notes. By the time class was over, their piece of paper was filled to the max with random messages.
Let's just say, Jisung almost got found out. So close, but thank the lord the bell rung. The male dashed out the door in a hurry, leaving the skeptical girl behind.
He was so focused on getting away, he accidentally bumped into someone. Sending the two of them down onto the hard tile floor.
"I'm so sorry! Are you okay—? Chenle?" The one person he didn't want to see right now.
Jisung rushed to get up, helping the elder up as well. He couldn't help but recall the position they were in a couple seconds ago as a rose color paint his cheeks.
"What's got you in a rush Ji?" Chenle asked, dusting himself off them moving them to the side of the hallway.
"I-I was going to be late for class." Jisung made up out of the blue.
"Your class is literally right there." The elder deadpanned, pointing a finger at a classroom a couple feet away from them.
"Welp, I guess I was just eager to learn about our country's history."

"Jisung. You hate history with a burning passion."
'Why do you have to know me so well Lele?'
"Now tell me why you seem so panicked? We still have to talk about that incident the other day when you threw my credit card at me." By now the students have cleared out from the hallway, leaving the two alone talking.
"Lele, we need to get to class--"
"You don't listen in history anyways so what's the point? I also have free period right now, so let's have a little talk huh?" Before Jisung could decline in any way, Chenle had already dragged him outside to the school yard.
The elder was a bit annoyed with how Jisung was acting recently. First, the card then him avoiding any, if not all, types of skinship or interaction with Chenle. It was ticking him off to be honest, and he wanted to get to the bottom of this.
Chenle spotted a deserted bench and dragged Jisung towards it, telling him to sit down before he took a seat himself.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Jisung asked wearily, kind of scooting away to make some space between him and Chenle.
The elder turned to face Jisung, staring his dead straight in the eyes," Why are you acting this way towards me Ji? Did I do something wrong?"
"What do you mean Lele? I've been acting the same since forever." Jisung defended.
"Oh really? Then why don't you let me kiss you anymore? Hug you anymore? Do anything with you anymore?" Then Chenle admitted to himself that he really, really, missed Jisung.
The past few days with Jisung's absence, the elder male couldn't help feel a bit lonely. Sure, he had the girl of his dreams right in front of him, giving him all the love and attention possible, but it didn't seem like it was enough for him. He was confused to say the least.
He guessed he just missed his best buddy being around him.
"Because it's wrong Chenle. All of that should be reserved for Jieun and, Jieun only. You love her and all of your attention should be given to her, not me. I'm just your best friend, and with you doing all of that, Jieun might think something is up and accuse you of something you didn't do. I want you to be happy Lele, and Jieun makes you happiest person alive from what I see. I don't want you to lose that happiness because of me, your stupid best friend." Every word that came out of Jisung's mouth, made him even more heart broken. He wanted to tell Chenle that he wanted him for himself, to leave Jieun and be his instead.
But that was just selfish of him. It was Chenle's life, and it was Chenle's decisions.
"Who said you weren't part of my happiness, Jisung?"

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
