I was sitting on the floor with my back against the wall outside Mr Orchard's ward. Tears still rolled down my cheeks but my face was emotionless.

The nurses rolled out the bed where Mr Orchard's body laid from the ward . He was covered with the sheets of the bed,Sarah and Jason trailed after then but they stopped by my side.

"Skai, how are you holding up ?" Sarah asked me as she stood beside me.

"I'm okay, just sad." I got up from where I sat with the help of Jason who gripped my hands.

"We are all sad but with time we'd feel better." Jason said as he helped me get up. He was really holding up well, he has been by his mum side, comforting her all day.

He'd have been the best person to run the company if not for his dyslexia. Sarah was calm and quiet all day, she didn't say much but the few times she did, she smiled.

"Skai, we are heading home, would you like to come over for lunch ?" Despite losing her husband today,Sarah was still kind and hospitable towards me even when she's suppose to be locked up in her house mourning.

"It's..."The ringing tone of my phone distracted me. It was James,maybe he's back from the airport.

"I'm safe." I didn't allow him to say anything because I know that's why he called me.

"Okay, do you have any guard with you ?" He asked with a sigh,well I don't blame him I can be stubborn at times or should I say all the time.

"No and I don't need one, James I'm safe, please don't argue this with me." I ended the call and stuffed the phone into my back pocket.

"So are you coming with us ?" Jason asked with a concern look on his face probably because of the way I spoke to James on the phone.

"No I'm fine, I'd like to head some where else." I said as I gestured for us to walk.

We walked outside of the hospital,Sarah was not comfortable leaving me alone but I faked my smiles to assure her I was fine as I waved her bye.

I was walking on the side walk with my hands tucked in my pocket. My head was down, just like the weather.

The clouds were gloomy,the hot bright sun was nowhere to be found. I wished I had come with my own car but on a second thought I could stand in the rain and let it wash away my pain.

It began raining heavily,it seemed everyone had their umbrella as they all put on their umbrella leaving me and few other persons to be drenched by the rain.

I spotted a bar across the road, I decided to cross over so I could take shade in the bar. I stood on the side walk waiting for some cars to pass by so I could cross.

One of the cars who drove by splashed the puddle of water on the road all over my body,making more wet than I was.

I spat out the water that entered my mouth,my day couldn't get any worse. I took out my face towel and tried to dry my clothes as I crossed the road.

My eyes were fixed on my hands that were wiping my wet body which made me unaware of the car that was racing towards me.

My eyes were blinded by the sharp light rays from the car's headlight. I was in shock and that shock made me motionless.

I knew the car was going to hit me, so I closed my eyes and waited for the hard body of the car to push me on the ground, to leave me unconscious or lifeless.

The car didn't hit me,it came to an immediate halt. It's edge was very close to me. I made eye contact with the person behind the steering.

My heart constricted as my gaze fell upon Andre. Did he try to kill me ? Was it all an accident ? Or he was just trying to scare me again.

The one thousand and one thoughts flying through my mind made me dizzy and my vision became blurry. I was losing track of reality as I fell to the ground but I could hear a familiar voice calling out my name.

DRAKE JOHNSON'S POV

Today has been rough since I woke up, I lost track of events happening around me.

I couldn't conduct the board meeting well,people thought I was psychotic maybe that's because of my immediate and sudden change of moods.

The thoughts from last night still replayed in my mind. Skai thinks I'm mad at her because she came home late with Mike but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I looked for Skai that night,I drove around in circles hoping to find her in a bar or a cafe, just anywhere but my heart shattered when I spotted her in a car with Mike.

He was holding her hands close to his face and my teeth clenched as I saw him kiss her hands. I was out looking for the one I loved but she's here having a moonlight date with her boyfriend.

I immediately drove back home at the sight of that,I was angry and mad. When did she intend telling me that she's seeing someone and why is she keeping it away from me.

This is the reason why I gave up on love, every time I give it a chance I end up hurt and alone.

The sound of the knock on my door brought me back to reality.

"Come in." I said in a low tone and I didn't expect whoever was knocking to hear me.

"Mr Johnson, the twins have been safely dropped at the airport." James told me as he walked into my office.

I waved my hand at him to dismiss him so I could go back to my deep sinking thoughts that were engulfing me.

"Mr Johnson there's still something."His voice wavered as he spoke.

"What ?" I answered him with my eyes fixed on my blank laptop.

"It's Skai." My eyes immediately looked up at him, what does he have to say about Skai, I hope she's safe.

"I got reports from the house that she left with a young man in a car." He walked closer to my desk with his hands behind him.

I closed my eyes tightly knowing it was Mike again, she's goofing off with him while I'm here suffering.

"Sir it's not the same man from last night." He said as he dropped a photo that was gotten from the security footage.

"Who is this ?!" I asked with a clueless expression as I looked at the photo.

"I don't know, I called her but she said she's safe." He looked really concerned,I was also concerned but what's the use, she feels safer with Mike anyways.

"You heard her , she's safe." I said as I got up from my desk and closed my laptop.

"Sir, we both kn...." I cut him short as I put my fingers in the air.

"Please James, enough of that. I need you to take me somewhere." I said as I grabbed my jacket from my chair.

"Where sir ?" He asked as he tucked the photo into his jacket.

"My mom's house." I said as I looked out of the glass wall with the a vulnerable look.

It was raining heavily as we drove. The heavy sounds of the rain droplets hitting the car couldn't drown my thoughts.

I hardly go to my mom's place, I only go there when I'm in my most vulnerable state and I need to revive myself.

My mom is the reason why I'm successful, I had to take care of her and my younger brother that's why I became serious with life and took over the company.

They've always been my drive and reading for all my hard work, I love them and I would like to give them the best in life.

"Sir, are you okay ?" James asked me as he looked at me from the rear view mirror.

"What do you think ?" I asked him with my hand under my chin as I looked over the window. I didn't expect him to give me an answer because it's obvious I'm not okay.

I kept on looking out at the window with my hand under my chin,my eyes were on the people with umbrellas over their heads as they stood on the side walk preparing to cross the road.

My eyes fell on a particular lady who was wiping her body with a small towel after she was splashed by the car who rode in front of us, for a lady with a nice figure she's pretty dumb to think that'd dry her up.

I had my eyes fixed on her as we drove then I heard people shouting in commotion as we drove passed her alongside the loud screeching of the tyres of the car behind us.

"James stop the car !" I rushed out of the car to the lady who was now laying on the floor.

Then I saw her familiar curly hair,her brown skin and her perfect body laying on the floor with her eyes slowly closing.

"Skai ! Skai ! Skai !" I shouted her name as I raced towards her. James headed for the car who bumped into her but the driver took off.

I carried her drenched body in my arms as I walked towards the car. She felt really cold in my arms maybe that's because she has been under the rain for a long time.

I put her in the backseat of the car as I took my seat next to her. I took off my jacket and wrapped it around her, she still felt cold.

"James give me your jacket !" I ordered James as I reached out for his hands as he entered the car.

He immediately took off his jacket and I took it from him and wrapped Skai with it.

"Should we go to the hospital ?" He asked me as he put on the ignition.

"No still head to my mom's place,she can handle this." I said as I held Skai's body close to mine.

I thought I didn't want anything to do with her the first day I saw her in my office but everyday I spend with her, it makes it clear to me the reason why I walked up to her in the bar that night.

Even as hurt as I am, I still felt the need and urge to take care of her and make sure she's safe.
