《Calamity Falls》Chapter 4

"Are you serious?" Lizzy asked as I sighed. I just explained everything to her and like a normal human she didn't believe it. "Yes. I was equally as surprised as you are" I rubbed my temple
"Cool. Can we have a sleepover tonight mom? Please?" she asked. I giggled "Of course".
We arrived home to a smoke filled house. "What's going on?" Lee coughed up covering his nose and mouth like the rest of us.
I ran to the kitchen to find Jace struggling to put the fire he created out.
E: *laughs* Good one. Now why did you call?
"Hurry up" I yelled. I was currently waiting for Mary and her friends so I could drop them off at school.
"We're coming" one of Mary's friends, Babe said. They ran past me into the car as I followed them.
I halted as I heard a voice call me back "Can we talk when you get back?" Jace said behind me.
"Of course" I turned to reply reply, quickly flashing him a smile before heading straight for the car
I dropped Lee and Daniel first before dropping Mary and her friends. "Thanks Ms. Downs" Mike said.
"My pleasure" I plastered a fake smile which didn't go unnoticed by Mary.
"We'll talk later" she mouthed to me before following her friends. I sighed before pulling out of the parking lot, heading straight for work
Time ticked slowly, I was beginning to think I'd die of anticipation. I wonder what Jace wants to talk about. Did he remember something? Does he finally like me? What's so important? These thoughts swarm my head resulting to me being unable to think straight.
"Riele" someone said, snapping me out of my suffocating thoughts. I looked up to find my new secretary, Shelby, standing with piles of files in her hands.
"Did you knock?" I asked, eyeing her suspiciously
"Yes I did but you didn't reply and these files need to be attended to so I came in" she explained an apologetic smile blooming on her caked up face
"Ok, , what's wrong then?" I smiled up at her.
"These files need to checked and then signed by you. It's about the merge we're about take part in with Mr. Brown's company, Broze Enterprise." she explained dropping the files on my table flipping through them so I could at least have an idea of its contents
"Thank you. I'll look through them" I offered a small smile watching as she walked out of my office, her hips swaying in the in the black and extremely tight skirt she wore. I shook my head 'Why do I keep employing whores as workers?'

About a while later, the telephone rang, I picked it "Yeah?" I asked waiting for the other person to speak up
"John is here to see you" Shelby's voiced out. 'What could be wrong?' "Let him in" I said worriedly. Glancing down at the files in front of me, my stomach began to churn in anxiety which had my hands become clammy and sweaty in a matter of seconds
Immediately, in came John dressed in his normal guard uniform. "What can I do you for John?" I asked offering a small smile which he didn't return worrying my slightly
"Nothing much, I'm just here to drop my resignation letter" he frowned dropping the letter in front of me
I opened my mouth in shock. I've never done anything to upset him so why would he want to resign. "What's wrong? Why? Was it something I did?" I asked looking up at him.
"Oh no. You are a wonderful boss. It's just that I found a better job somewhere else. I would've loved working here and there as well but it's far from here and the job offered is better than the one here so..." he gulped
I smiled softly at him "No problem. I'm not mad if you think I am".
"Thank goodness" he breathed out a breath of relief before laughing.
"Well, I guess it's goodbye then. My regards to your girlfriend" I winked at him.
"She's not my girlfriend. We're just friends" he groaned.
"Mhm, and that's why your face is as red as tomato right now, right?" " I laughed.
"I'll be going now" he coughed out, embarrassed.
"Ok, bye John" I laughed as he walked out
I sighed "Where to get a security guard?". I thought out loud before picking up the telephone sat next me then phoned Shelby
"Hello" she replied after picking up.
"Can you arrange a way to put a vacancy sign outside, for the post of a security guard?" I rubbed the bridge of my nose in frustration
"Alright" she replied.
"Thanks" I hung up then glanced up at the clock situated on the wall at the other side of the wall; It read *10am*. "Can the time be any slower?" I groaned, hitting my head on the table
It was 4:04pm. I packed my belongings into my bag then walked out of my office. I got out of the building into the parking lot then drove out of the company. I picked Lee and Daniel first, as usual, then Mary.
"Hey baby. How was school?" I glanced at her from the rear view mirror.

"Same ol' thing" she replied making me laugh
"When will school never be boring for you?" I joked, turning around the corner, our house just four houses away.
I saw Jace at the front door doing nothing, I guess waiting for us. She moved to reply but unfortunately she couldn't, as I slammed in the front of a moving truck.
Pain swallowed me up, I couldn't do anything but all I heard were screams everywhere but gradually they became distant. But a voice stood out from all "Riele" I heard Jace say. I opened my eyes, partially to find Jace looking down at me with a worry painted on his face .
My eyes suddenly became too heavy to keep open. I moved to close them, "Don't close them. Open them please" I heard someone plead but it was shut off by a piercing ring that broke off in my ear
Before I could scream out in pain, I lost all senses of my surroundings and everything became dark but not before before I managed to say the exact three words that was so dear to me"Save my kids".
I looked up to find the kids being attended to. People had called the ambulance and they were currently treating the kids but Riele was left to bleed
"Please save her" I pleaded to them.
A man came over and crouched at my front "Is she your wife?" he asked checking her pulse.
"No" I replied. "Can you save her?" I asked disregarding the question.
"Yes get her on the stretcher" he pointed at the stretcher not far away from me.
I carried her to the stretcher, staining my shirt and hands with blood, then the paramedics pulled her into the back of the ambulance with the kids in another ambulance. I sat with them as we were driven to the hospital
I was cut off my thoughts as a nurse touched my arm "You can't follow them in there" she said softly before disappearing behind the blinding white walls. It was then I realised that we were already at the hospital. I sat on the chair in the waiting room, waiting impatiently.
Hours later, a man came up to me dressed in the common attire of a medical doctor "Doc. is she ok? Can I see her? What about the kids? Are they alright? I hope no one died" I kept firing questions at him not pausing for him to reply.
"Calm down young man. Yes they are ok, alive and healthy" he said.
I smiled, until he said the words I dreaded the most "But we have a problem"
"W-What's the problem?" I asked.
"The impact of the accident left the woman in a condition" he sighed.
"What does that mean?" I asked confused.
"I'm sorry but she can't walk. She broke her spine colon due to the impact the car had on the truck" he explained.
"What... You're telling me she can't walk for the rest of her life?" I gulped, terrified of what the answer may be.
"Oh no. It was just a crack she should be back in shape in about two months, more or less" the man said and I blew out a breath I never knew I was holding
"Can I see her?" I asked as he nodded.
"Follow me" he said, leading the way. We finally got in front of a door with *Room 12b* written in bold black letters.
"Here it is" he said.
"Thanks" I nodded at him as he left.
I opened the door and entered the room to find Riele on the bed, crying her eyes out. "Why are you crying Riele?" I asked in worry as I approached the side of her bed.
"Why me?" she choked out.
"Why what?" I asked confused
"My life has never been stable. Problems pop up here and there, now and then and it's frustrating. I just want to die, it's all too much. I'm tired of the pain" she paused before shifting her eyes to me "It hurts and knowing I have no control over it, is just sad" she said, eyes brimming with unshed tears
"No. You can't do that. Life is so good for you to end it just like that. People need you Rie, the kids, your family, friends and me. I need your help, I'm still in a dark filled memory, an empty space of remembrance. According to what I've gathered, you might be my ticket to regaining my memory so please don't ever tell me you want to die. Death is never the answer to anything" I warned her
She looked taken aback at first but then her eyes soften. "I'm sorry" she muttered, shifting her gaze to the plain white walls. "How are they?" she asked but I knew what she wanted to say.
"They're ok. According to the doctor." I concluded
She nodded, "Is there someone I need to inform about all this?" I asked her, at least she must have friends.
"No, I don't want to worry them. They have enough on their plates than me adding more of my problems" she shook her head
"Whatever you say" I sighed already knowing that her decision would definitely backfire

The Bronze Players of Recreation
The world of Creation has seen a recent explosion of what can only be called an adventurer’s culture over the past few decades. People who were once looked at as nothing more than lower class mercenaries rose to the ranks of heroes and legends as adventuring became recognized as an idealized lifestyle of overcoming hardship and finding triumph. With the establishment of a guild-based government system on the continent of Terramania, adventurers were soon legitimized and adventuring became a phenomenon universally accepted around the world. Redlette had retreated from this world to live on Earth for the remainder of her years, having been born and outcast by the gods of Creation. However, upon meeting a friend that she treasured dearly, she found herself longing for a return to her world—she wanted to experience it properly and go on adventures with someone whom she holds dear. Putting a plan into action, she meets with her friend, an awkward, nerdy boy by the username of Herring who she’d only known through years of playing online games with him, and invites him to go on this fantastic adventure with her. An adventure in another world had always been an impossible dream for Herring, but when he suddenly found himself with the opportunity to embark on one, he knew it wouldn’t be as simple as books and shows made it out to be. Redlette was notorious for rushing into things without thinking them through, and he was flighty and weak. In the games they played together, they rarely grasped victory. They were losers through and through, both in hobby and life. Despite this, though, he takes the leap and sets off with Redlette into the world of Creation. Together they only had one goal: to have fun and go on the adventure of their lives. This time, they’d establish a guild of their own and be free to take on whatever exploits their hearts desired. This is the story of the founding of their guild. Author’s Notes: -My writing style is largely based off of the absurd amount of light novels I’ve read and anime I’ve watched, so it may come off as cartoonish or exaggerative at times. If that isn’t your thing, I’d steer clear of this story.-Not an MMO story.-No numerical stats.-Relatively slow pacing.-Posts are between 2000-5000 words weekly after Chapter 1.
