《Reality Check (One Piece Fan-Fiction)》Chapter XV: The Tangerine Grove

Lyon POV
I made my way over to where Genzo told me where the grove was & I saw rows of tangerines, Sil sniffed the air & suddenly started growling. I patted his head but we both packed behind a row of tangerines when we saw at least a handful of fishman surrounding a little girl with unnatural orange hair
"When will the maps be ready, Nami?"
"I-I don't know! Soon!" I clenched my fist when I saw that one was holding a little girl down, she had light blue hair & a headband "Please leave Nojiko out of this! She has nothing to do with this!" the girl known as Nami was lifted off the ground but was then suddenly thrown to the ground
"We'll be back later, those maps better be finished by the time we get back!" & they laughed as they walked away, Sil was going to pounce at them but I held him back
"Not yet buddy, not yet." he then huffed & glared in the direction the left
"I know." my gaze softened when I looked back at them, the the named Nojiko was hugging Nami as they both cried. I go to stand up but Sil sprinted over to them, I curse in my head & run after him "Sil!"
"AHH! Tiger!!" I whistled & he stopped right in front of them, he turned to look at me & I shook my head "He's gonna eat us mister!"
"I am so so terribly sorry! Silver, whats gotten into you?!" he nudges his head over to them & I roll my eyes "What are your names?" I ask, pretending not to know, as I sat down in front of them after pulling Sil away

"You should tell us your name first mister."
"Alright, my name is Stoneheart D. Lyon, call me Leo if you like. This guy here is Silver, or Sil for short. I'm really sorry if he scared you or anything." the one with light blue hair was still reluctant before sighing
"I-I'm Nojiko, this is Nami."
"Lovely names but, where are your parents? You can't be out here alone, right?" that was until Nami burst into tears again
"O-Our only parent we had was our a-adoptive mother... w-who's dead." I gasp a bit, I scratch my head not knowing what to do before patting Nojiko's head
"I'm sorry to hear that, was she a good mother?" they both nodded their heads "I wish I had a mother that cared for me as yours did to you. My mother never cared for me, all she ever wanted was to get rid of me."
"Really?" Nami asked me
"Yeah, that's all she said to me. No one loved me... all I ever wanted was to be loved." I chocked back tears & shook my head "Enough about my troubling past, I just wanted to pay you."
"Pay us?" I nodded my heads
"You do own these tangerines right?" they nodded "What about the juice that was being made down in the village." they nodded their heads again "I found it absolutely divine so, here is a token of my gratitude." I handed them two sacks of gold, their eyes widened at that
"Why are you giving this to us?"
"I stole it, & I won't be doing anything with it in the future, plus it seems like you really need this." what I didn't expect was that they both hugged me

"Thank you so much!" they both squealed, I chuckle before hugging them back. They pull away & take the sacks away from me, I watched as they emptied them into a large chest that was at least a tiny bit full but the money I gave them had actually filled half of it
"What are you saving that for?" I ask, they look at each other "Y-You don't have to tell me, if you don't want too." Nami sniffed
"Thank you..." I look over at the table at the front of the house & saw a well drawn map, I pick it up but was snatched from me from Nami "Please don't touch that! I-I'm still working on it!"
"Wait, you drew this?" she nods "That is amazing! I've never seen a well drawn map, drawn by a child! Fuck, Marco's gonna get jealous."
"Really?"
"Totally." I sat down on the chair & the other two sat across from me, Sil was below them & was falling asleep as Nami & Nojiko pet him "What island is this? Maybe I could help you a bit."
"U-Um, Sekaii Island." I rose a brow
"That specific island is far away from this island, how'd you... n-nevermind, here." I lifted my arm up & a floating screen appeared, I clicked on a certain thing & the map of Sekaii Island appeared
"H-How did you... what are y-you doing to do that?" Nojiko asked, a little spooked out
"Magic." I look at Nami & saw that she was grinning as she looked up at the map & started looking at it before telling me to make it disappear, so I did. Nojiko & I watched her work on the map until she slammed her quill down & show us
"Wow, a complete replica of the map."
"Every detail as well." I ruffle her head & she giggled "You have a real talent, even I'm jealous." this time I noticed she started blushing, I felt a tap & I saw that Nojiko was offering me a glass of tangerine juice. I accept it & we both watched as Nami made more & more maps, I was blown away at how detailed they were
"Its nice having company here, other then the villagers." Nojiko said to me, I smiled at her "& can I ask you something, Lyon-san."
"Sure, ask away."
"Why do you where sunglasses? I don't see a lot of people where them & its a cloudy day today." I look away & scratch the back of my head
"Its kinda personal." I saw that Nami kicked Nojiko's leg
"Good going!"
"Hey!"
"No no you two, there's no need to fight. Plus, its not your sister's fault, she didn't know." I felt Sil rub his face against my leg & I smile down at him "Uh, people didn't like the color of my eyes & would often tease or bully me for that."
"Has anyone else seen your eyes other then them or yourself?"
"... no."
"Can we see them?!" Nami asked, this time Nojiko punched her arm "Ow!"
"Did you not just hear him?!"
"What did I just say?!" that stopped them, I sighed & grabbed the rim of my glasses "I can't believe I'm doing this." & with that I took them off & waited for their reaction

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.

Branded
From the second Eluc awoke in this world, he was filled with questions. Why can he not remember his past, what is this White Room, and where the hell should he go? Leaving these unanswered, he could only traverse this world based on his instincts alone. However, Eluc still had one lead: the Brand upon his wrists. Author's Thoughts: I want to return to this story one day, perhaps in a re-write. Ended up writing an entire other novel and now might have the confidence to undertake this to write another story. To anyone even reading this, sorry for the hiatus but thank you for reading this attempt at a story. Beautiful cover image edited from a picture by JR Korpa
