Perrie brought the garage door down. For a moment, the entire room was pitch black and Blaine struggled in his seat in the centre of the room. With the flick of a switch, the room flooded with light. It blinded them until they could adjust to the sudden brightness.

'Perrie, my love, what are you doing?' Blaine asked. He was un-gagged, but the ropes still bound him in place.

'Tell me the truth... did you attack Eliza?' Perrie expected to fight with him for the answer, but almost instantly Blaine replied with 'yes'. It shocked her that he would be so callous about it, that he would admit it as easily as if he was answering a question about his sex.

When she could get over her shock, she continued, 'why?'

'Does it matter now?' He asked. He was genuine, as if his actions didn't have consequences.

'Of course it matters! Eliza is awake and she told me you did it! What about the other guys, did they do it too?'

'No, it was me and Phil, no one else.'

Perrie's voice was breaking. 'Why? Why would you attack a defenceless girl - no, not just a girl, but a person. A human being. What provoked you to act like that?'

'Nothing.'

His answers infuriated her. 'Is there no logic in your bullying? Are you really just an empty airhead prick who goes around beating people because he can?'

Blaine basically nodded. Perrie had to look away from him for fear she would attack him physically. As she pushed herself against the table she spun to, her eyes fell on the spell book, open to the page she found in the car.

'To permanently damage an opponent. This spell will inflict wounds all over the target, wounds that will never heal.'

Blaine heard her mutter under her breath. 'What? Perrie, what is that?'

Perrie wiped tears from her eyes as she turned to look at him. 'I cast a spell to make you acknowledge that you love me. You played me before when you would secretly kiss me and tell me I'm beautiful and make me feel special; I just wanted us to be public. My feelings for you overcame every sense and I did something stupid to make you a respectable human being, because what you did to me by stringing me along was torture. You were torturing me.'

'I admit I do like you Perrie, you're a good kisser. But you know how school is, we could have never been a thing.'

'I understand that now, and that's why I cast the spell, to change your judgment about me, to change everyone's judgment about me. But you know what, I regret it. You are not the guy I thought you were, and I've turned into someone I don't want to be.'

Perrie turned her eyes to her mobile phone. It was times like these she needed her friends, and now she was hurting so much that she wasn't sure what she was doing anymore.

As if an unknown angel had listened to her internal prayer, an incoming text in the group chat with the girls came through. It was Jade.

Seeing the photos come through one by one made Perrie burst out in laughter and tears at the same time. The girls were - are - everything to her. She knew what she had to do now.

Half an hour later, Perrie opened her front door to see the solemn faces of her three girls. Leigh-Anne, Jesy and Jade stood there, their bottom lips sticking out and big eyes squarely on Perrie's face. Perrie tilted her head and ushered them all inside. They walked straight into the living room.

'Before anybody starts, I just want to say some things that I need to get off my chest,' Perrie told them. The other girls gave her their full attention. 'I have been acting pretty crazy the past few days. So much has happened since we cast that spell and I took a lot of my frustrations out on you guys; it wasn't fair. I am so, so sorry, from the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry. I hope you girls can forgive me.'

Leigh-Anne wrapped Perrie up in a hug. 'Of course we can, and I want to say sorry too. I've been so focused and dedicated to trying to help everyone else, but I lost sight of helping my own girls. You three are my whole world. You're all cream crackers and I love you.'

Jade joined the hug. 'I love you all too and I hate it when we fight. I never want it to happen again.'

► Jesy was the last to join the hug; she was evidently crying and she tried to keep it together for them. They pulled apart but all held hands in a perfectly-formed square.

'Uh-oh, uh-oh, here I go again, baby, baby. I hear your name, and it's like I'm breaking, aching...'

'I love you,' Jesy said to them.

'I love you,' said Perrie.

'I love you,' Jade whispered, her voice breaking.

Leigh-Anne looked at her girls. 'I love you.'

'Friends?' Perrie asked.

'Best friends,' Jesy told her with a smile.

They all laughed and hugged yet again, this time with so much happiness and energy that they almost toppled over. They tried to stop giggling when returning to conversation.

'I have Blaine tied up in my garage,' Perrie confessed instantly.

'What?' Jade asked in surprise.

Jesy cackled. 'Are you kidding?'

Perrie shook her head. 'No,' she said, laughing at Jesy's laugh. 'I wanted him to pay for what he did to Eliza, and I took the spell book from Leigh-Anne's house...'

'You broke into my house?'

Perrie looked at the floor. 'I'm sorry.'

Leigh-Anne softened her expression. 'Nah, it's okay, it's not breaking in when you're family. You were gonna cast a spell?'

'Yeah, I wanted him to feel the pain he's caused other people, but I started missing you guys and realised how much I needed you.'

'Well I would have just kicked him in the balls by now,' Jade said. 'Guys say it's apparently worse than childbirth so let's all take turns.'

The others laughed. 'That sounds fun,' Jesy said with a giggle, 'but that's not going to help in the long run, and we would get done for kidnapping. We have a confession from him, right? And Eliza knows he is one of her attackers...'

'But she won't come forward,' Leigh-Anne told them. 'I phoned her before and she's scared.'

Perrie's mind started to work overtime. 'She won't have to if we make him do it. He'll tell me anything, it must be part of the spell. I'll just record him saying what he did and we can hand him over to the police.'

'That's fine and all,' Jade said. 'But won't they see him tied up and he could argue that he was forced to say it. We need him to be honest with the police, not us.'

'I'm sure there's a spell to turn a person into a puppet. We can make him go to the police station, make a confession, and then when he's firmly in jail, we can break the spell.'

The other girls thought about it, then shrugged simultaneously. 'Why the hell not,' Leigh-Anne said.

'I think,' Perrie also said, this time a little quietly. 'We also have to break the spell we cast before... at some point. I know how much progress we have made, but it's starting to not feel right.'

Jade nodded. 'I agree, actually. Kyle told me he saw the attack on Eliza and did nothing to stop it. I was so blinded by love for him before that I didn't look for the person underneath. I should have known better. But for now, we should keep the spell going just for the benefit of everyone at school who now has a voice to stand up for themselves.'

'At the end of the week, we break the spell,' Jesy agreed. 'Deal?'

'Deal,' the others said in unison. They were all pulled into another group hug and they let it linger for several minutes.

'I can't believe Kyle saw everything and didn't do anything about it,' Leigh-Anne finally said. 'What a dick.'

'I know, he's not the person I thought he was,' Jade said with a frown. 'I wish more people could stand up for others when they see something that isn't right.'

'Good job we have the rally tomorrow for the anti-bullying society. The school allowed us to have it, even though they're not supposed to, the spell we cast really has come in handy.'

'So shall we meet for breakfast at the usual place tomorrow morning and then do our pep talk with everyone who is coming beforehand?' Jesy asked.

Leigh-Anne nodded as confirmation.

'I've missed this,' Perrie said, looking at her girls with pride. 'We've come a long way. We still have a big problem, though - that guy in my garage.'

'Oh yeah,' Jesy said in a high-pitched voice. 'Almost forgot about that forgettable twat.'

'Let's go cast another spell,' said Jade. 'To be honest, I've been itching to do another one since the last one, and it's good to know that this time we will put someone behind bars.'

The girls left the living room and made their way to the garage. Perrie opened the door. It was pitch black again.

'That's weird, I didn't turn the lights off when I left him,' Perrie said before she flicked the switch. When she did, and the light filled the room, the girls saw that the garage was empty.

Perrie rushed to the chair, the ropes dangling down the legs. She looked at her girls in worry.

'Did you tie him up properly?' Jade asked, looking around the room to make sure he wasn't still hiding inside.

'Of course,' Perrie said defensively. 'I brought him all the way here in my car and the rope was airtight. How did he get out?'

Jesy shook her head. 'I don't know, he must have kept struggling against them so the friction would make them loose, somehow.'

Perrie picked up a piece of the rope. 'It's been cut,' she said as she looked to the desk, 'and the book is gone!' The girls looked at her wide-eyed. Perrie sighed. 'I'm so sorry, girls. I didn't mean for this to happen.'

'That's okay,' Leigh-Anne told her. 'It's not your fault.'

Despite the bravery shown on their faces, they all feared what might happen at the next day's rally now that Blaine knew everything.
