《Shadows {Book one in the Coriana Johnson series}》Hellos and Goodbyes

"Hello? Hello? HELLLLOOOO!!!!!! Where is everyone?" I yelled while I walked through the hallways.

It seemed as if everyone had disappeared.

"I go to sleep for a half hour and everyone disappears," I muttered.

I decided to check in the one place I hadn't yet, the training room.

I opened the door, and sure enough, pretty much everyone was in there. Doing what? I had no idea.

"Lincoln, I'll just give you a separate cue to come in," Daisy was saying.

"I'm playing 'freak out and go for the alarm guy,'" Lincoln told Coulson.

"Good luck with that," He responded.

All right, reset ! Right when she opens the door," Daisy told everyone.

"Ok, so what the heck are you guys doing?" I asked.

"We're practicing for when May will go to save Charles. I know what's coming, so I'm showing her," Daisy responded.

"Ok...." I said and leaned against the wall to watch.

"Ready whenever you are, May," Daisy said.

May nodded and went out on the other side of the door.

As May burst into the room, Daisy started the stopwatch.

She took out the first "guard", then whirled around and "shot" Fitz with her fake gun.

She took out another "guard", and "shot" another.

Then Simmons came in, and May "took her out" too, but she didn't fall down like she was supposed to.

"Simmons! Fall down!" May whispered.

"Sorry," She said and fell down.

I tried to contain my laughter. It was a train wreck.

"Lincoln, go! Grab the knife!" Daisy told him and he rushed over to one of the "guards" to grab the knife, but May "shot" him, and he fell down.

Once they were done, I decided not to hold in my laughter any longer, but was met with glares.

"I wish we could practice every moment of our life like this," Coulson remarked, and I nodded, still laughing.

"That was terrible!" Daisy exclaimed.

"It was a train wreck," I said.

"Well you're lucky you're hurt so you don't have to do this," Simmons groaned.

"Yep!" I said cheerfully.

"Fitz?" Daisy said with exasperation.

"You come in right after Doug," Simmons supplied.

"Okay, I come in right on the heels of Doug!" he said with equal exasperation.

"And May, are you telling me that's your best side kick?" Daisy said, turning to her.

"I was trying to miss her face," May replied.

"This would be so much easier if...."

"I had you're powers?"

"Well, it wouldn't hurt."

I rolled my eyes. Her complaining about not being able to go was frustrating.

"All right, it's got to be faster. Reset, reset," Daisy told everyone.

Everyone reset, and I wondered if this time would be any better.

They started again, and it was a little better, but not fast enough.

"Reset, reset!" Daisy said again.

"Ok, ready whenever you are," She said after a little bit.

They went through the whole thing again, but that time, it was actually pretty good.

Daisy and I wore matching surprised expressions on our faces.

"That was pretty darn good," Daisy said.

"'Bout time," I said, grinning.

I heard the door open and turned towards it.

"Sir?" an agent said to Coulson. "We found the building."

We were in the meeting room staring at the image of the building on the screen.

"That's it," Daisy said.

"And shocker ... the only way in is through their security office on the ground floor," sighed Lincoln.

"Transia Corporation ... I know of it, but what would Malick want in there?" Coulson asked.

"I used their nerve-wiring interface in your hand, sir. It's cutting edge, to say the least," Fitz told him.

"Okay, this is getting crazy," Simmons said.

"That's an understatement," I added.

"It's been crazy," May said. Obviously they had been through some pretty weird stuff.

Daisy, Lincoln, May, and Coulson walked out into the hallway, while Simmons, Fitz, and I stayed in the room.

I sighed.

"I wish I could go with you guys," I said.

"Well, you need your rest," Simmons said.

"I know. But It's not like the car would get attacked again!"

Fitzsimmons shared a glance.

I grinned.

"What?" Fitz asked me. "Why are you grinning?"

"It's because of you two. You did that glance thing simultaneously! Are you two together yet? Because if you aren't-"

I was cut off by a loud blaring.

"Is that-?" I asked.

"The alarm? Yes," Simmons answered.

We rushed into the hall and quickly found the others. They were all staring at someone, and when we got closer, Fitzsimmons also stared.

I soon realized who they were staring at.

In the midst of several SHIELD agents- all holding guns- was a black man who held his hands behind his head.

"Who is-" I began, but stopped as an agent began to speak.

"He just walked in, surrendered himself," the agent said.

"Why?" May said, hardness in her voice.

"Lash is taking over. I'm about to turn for the last time, May...I came to say goodbye," the man said.

Suddenly I realized who the man was.

"Oh," I said as my eyes got wide.

My head was rested in my hand as I waited for news about what was going on.

I absentmindedly made the light bulbs get darker, then lighter in the room.

Finally, Simmons poked her head in the room.

I looked up.

"May isn't going," She told me.

"What!" I said and shot to my feet.

"Than who-" I stopped mid-sentence. I sighed. "Don't tell me Daisy's going."

Simmons nodded.

I groaned.

"You'd better hurry if you want to catch her before she leaves," Simmons said.

I nodded my thanks and ran down the hall, ignoring the disapproving looks from other agents, and ignoring Simmons yelling to slow down so I don't re-injure myself.

I made it to the hanger just in time to see Daisy beggining to board the Quinjet.

"Daisy!" I yelled while I ran towards the Quinjet.

She smiled.

When I reached her, I wrapped her in a hug. Well, as best of a hug as I could with one arm in a cast.

"I can't even go anywhere without having to talk to you, can I?" She joked and hugged me.

"Nope," I said and let go. "So. You're seriously going to go? Alone?"

She nodded.

"I can handle it," she said.

"You know that having superpowers doesn't make you unstoppable, right?" I said.

"I know. But I can handle myself anyways."

"I know you can. I just want my sister to come back in one piece."

"Don't worry about me."

"I've said the same thing, but that doesn't stop you from doing it."

I crossed my arms.

She laughed.

"Bye Cori."

She started to turn around, but before she did, I suddenly wrapped her in a big hug.

"Just don't die, ok? I've only known you for like a month. That's not long enough."

I felt her squeeze me.

"I won't. Just don't do anything stupid while I'm gone."

"Define stupid."

She laughed, and we let go of each other.

"Bye," she said and turned around to walk into the Quinjet.

"Bye," I whispered as the ramp shut. I stepped back as it took off.

I felt tears roll down my cheeks.

At first I didn't know why I was crying.

Was it because of her leaving? No.

Then I realized it.

What if she doesn't come back in one piece? What if the death she saw was her own?
