《Shadows {Book one in the Coriana Johnson series}》A Stupid Idea

We were all huddled around the computer, eager to see if any information on the hard drive would be useful. We were close to cracking all the files.
While I waited, I walked out into the hallway and did what I usually did when I was nervous or impatient. I paced.
The two people I was the closest to here were captured. Who knows what their captors wanted with them. I was mad at myself because of Lincoln's capture. I should have known that they would watch that place. It was my fault.
"Coriana? Are you OK?" I whirled around when I heard that gentle voice. It was Simmons, who was smiling compassionately. I sighed.
"Yeah. I'm just worried about Daisy and Lincoln," I said. She nodded.
"Me too." I looked down. I didn't know her very well, but Simmons seemed nice...
"And I feel like Lincoln's capture is my fault. I should have known they would be watching that place. And now he's captured."
"It's not your fault," Simmons said and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"How do you know that."
"It's ." She said a bit more firmly. I looked up and smiled.
"Thanks."
Suddenly a man walked out into the hall. He had short, curly brown hair, and there was stubble on his face.
"Jemma?" he said with a Scottish accent. She turned around to face him.
"What is it Fitz?" She asked him.
"We found something," He replied. Simmons and I looked at each other, hope showing on our faces. We followed him over to the computer.
"That's Fitz," Simmons explained. "He's an engineer." Fitz left to get Coulson as we looked at the data on the computer. All of the files had been cracked, to my relief.
I heard footsteps behind me and I saw Coulson walking towards us.
"What was found?" He asked Fitz.
"The hard drive contained the location of one of their bases. We don't know if it is the base they have Daisy and Lincoln at, but it's worth a shot," Fitz replied.
"We need to go there as soon as possible!" I exclaimed. I was eager to get Daisy and Lincoln back. Coulson raised an eyebrow.
"We?" he said.
"I- I was kind of hoping I could come along," I said hopefully. Coulson, as I expected, shook his head.
"No. You are far from ready to go on a mission. You need to stay here-"
"But-"
"You're No buts." I sighed and nodded. "You!" He pointed to a random agent. "Take her back to the containment room." I rolled my eyes.
"I'm capable of finding my own way." He cast an annoyed glance at me. I grudgingly followed the agent who was to lead me to my room. After we were a good distance down the hall, I cast a glance over my shoulder to make sure no one was near. When I saw no one else, I casually said to the agent next to me, "Sorry about this." He glanced at me.
"About what?" I turned so I was facing him.

"This!" I said quickly as I held out my hands and knocked him back with my power, knocking him unconscious. I looked around once more, then ran towards where I remembered the garage being.
I knew escaping and going on my own was a stupid idea, but I didn't care. And technically, I wouldn't be alone. I was going to sneak onto the quinjet, and have them take me there. Then, I would sneak out when they were gone. I successfully sneaked into the garage and boarded the quinjet. After a while, I heard people speaking outside.
"Where could she have gone?" I heard May's voice say.
"I don't know, but we can't look for her right now. We need to find Daisy," I heard another voice say, this time Coulson.
"Agreed," May responded.
I ducked into my hiding spot. I waited for a little bit, but no one came into the quinjet.
I peeked outside, and realized they weren't getting on the quinjet, they were boarding a larger jet-type thing.
I groaned and crept out of the quinjet. The ramp to the other jet was closing, so I had to move fast. I darted over and was able to squeeze inside before the ramp closed.
I found a hiding spot and stayed there, hoping not to be found.
After a while, I was getting cramped from being in my hiding spot for so long, but I didn't dare move.
"Ok let's go! I heard Coulson say, and I had to keep from breathing a sigh of relief.
I waited until I knew everyone had gone, and I slipped out after them. I looked at my phone - yes, I have a phone, it was given to me by a friend- and headed towards the location of the base. I was able to find the way the others had gotten in.
I crept through the base, hoping not to be spotted. Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing. I usually made logical decisions, but this was not one of them. I had hardly any training, I was alone, and I didn't even know where to go.
I took a deep breath. I just needed to figure out where the containment area was. I started searching around and I finally found a computer. I turned it on and located the containment area to my relief. I started to turn away, then I turned back and looked at the cameras to see where the team was. I spotted them in another hallway, fighting what seemed like an army of guards. At least with them keeping all of those guards occupied, I would be able to get around with less trouble.
I continued on towards the containment area. I rounded a corner, but stopped in my tracks when I ran into a guard. We both froze for a moment, then I recovered when I saw him reach for his communication device. I threw my hands out in front of me and shot dark energy at him. I walked past his unconscious body to my destination.
I found the door to the containment area and kicked it open, preparing myself for the guards that could be inside. I spotted three guarding a few metal doors, which I assumed to be the cells. They rushed towards me, and I used my dark energy to push two of them against the wall, and they slumped to the floor.

I ducked behind some cover, then rolled out from behind it, then took out the last guard. When I stood up, I noticed something that I had never realized before when I looked a the guard. For a bit, his eyes were clouded over with black, then they cleared. I had always assumed that when people had been knocked out, it was simply from being knocked down from by my power, but I realized it must actually be from the actual dark energy.
I looked around and found a key, and unlocked the first cell, but it was empty. I opened the second one, and breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Lincoln. He looked up and a look of relief crossed his face when he saw me.
He tried to stand up, but he collapsed back onto the bench he had been sitting on. I rushed over to his side and helped him stand.
"Where's Daisy?" I asked him.
"They were experimenting on us. They had just taken her in for more experimentation," Lincoln said feebly as I helped him walk out of the cell. "Where is everyone else? You aren't alone, are you?"
His voice sounded concerned.
"Not exactly," I responded. "We need to find Daisy fast." Lincoln nodded in agreement.
"Do you know where to go?" he asked. I nodded.
"Can you walk?"
"I feel a bit stronger now, but I might still need help." I put my arm underneath his and we walked out of the containment area.
We it reached as quick as we could with me helping Lincoln walk. I kicked open the door and walked in, and took out the few guards that were present. I spotted a room, which I assumed must be the room Daisy was in. I opened it and spotted two more guards, along with a few doctors. Daisy's body was on a bed next to them.
"Get away from her!" I exclaimed as Lincoln zapped one of the guards. I hit the other one with dark energy, but in my anger I didn't realize how much I had hit him with. He dropped to the floor, barely breathing, and the haze of black over his eyes didn't go away. I had hit him with so much dark energy that it was killing him.
I gasped, realizing what I had done. I saw that Lincoln noticed, but he didn't say anything. I turned away from the body to look at Daisy.
The doctors were huddled in a corner, unsure what to do. I walked over to Daisy, ignoring them. She looked to be in pretty bad shape.
"Uh- I didn't think this through. How are we going to-" I broke off as I heard a gunshot and felt pain shoot through my shoulder. I turned and saw a guard, who must have regained consciousness, holding a gun. I lifted a hand and knocked him out again.
"You're hit!" Lincoln exclaimed.
"I'm fine," I lied. It hurt. A lot.
"You obviously aren't," Lincoln argued. "Where is everyone else, Coriana? You said you weren't 'exactly' alone. who is with you?" I groaned.
"Fine. The rest of the team is here, but I was ordered to stay behind. I didn't, obviously, and they don't know I'm here. And yes, my shoulder does hurt a lot, but can we just get out of here?"
"How are we going to carry Daisy out?" I sighed.
"I don't know. I was trying to figure that out before I-"
I stopped when another gunshot was heard, this time from down the hallway. We heard footsteps, and a little while later, we saw Mack and Fitz. They froze when they saw me and Lincoln standing there.
"Coriana you- but you-" Fitz stammered.
"I'm sure you'll explain later," Mack said, and walked over to us. "But we just need to get out of..." he trailed off when his eyes landed on my wound. I grinned.
"I'll explain later," I said. He nodded and walked over to Daisy.
"Help me get her out of here," Mack said to Fitz. The two of them lifted her onto a stretcher and picked it up.
"Where is everyone else?" Lincoln asked.
"They had to hold off the guards. They sent almost everyone they had after us," Fitz replied as we started to leave the room.
"You should put pressure on that," Lincoln told me. I nodded and followed his instruction.
"Hopefully we can get out of here without much difficulty," Mack said, right before we ran into a large group of guards.
"Great," I said. "You jinxed it." Mack rolled his eyes at me. We began to fight the guards as best as we could, but I could tell that there was too many.
Just as it seemed we were going to be defeated, suddenly the rest of the team attacked the guards from behind. Soon, all of the guards had been defeated.
Coulson looked at me. I smiled guiltily.
"We were wondering where you went," Coulson said dryly. "Let's go. We can talk later. And trust me, when we do, we will have a lot to talk about." I nodded. I didn't want that moment to come, especially since Coulson didn't look very happy, but I knew it would. I couldn't avoid it any longer.
All of us headed back to the jet, which was apparently called the Zepher 1, taking out the few guards who were left. We got on it and May took off. After my shoulder was taken care of, I sat in silence the whole way. The trip seemed as if it couldn't go any slower.
Finally, we arrived back at the base. I followed Coulson silently to the containment room.
"Alright," he said. "Now, you will tell me everything as promised, or you will leave. Got it?"
I looked down and nodded. It was time for the truth. All of it.
