《Only you can make me feel better... (Calamity x Drift)》Chapter 9: One lives, one dies...

Its was the next day and me and the whole team were at the base. We were discussing the plan. John actually wanted to start the searching tomorrow but he decided that me and Brite would search this afternoon, around 13:00. Now I just had to wait until it was time... When the meeting was over, we all went home. Me and Raptor entered our house and I went to the kitchen to make some coffee. I didn't sleep good last night because I woke up around 2:45 midnight.
I was thinking about Calamity all the time. I was wondering why I was caring so much for her. Was it because she is a good friend or something more? The last 2 days I've been thinking about the fact I may have feelings for her. After I made my coffee, I went to the couch where Raptor was sitting, watching TV. I sat on the couch and drank my coffee. When it was 12:50 the doorbell rang. I stood up and walked towards the door. I opened it and saw Brite. She asked with a serious face.I said and walked away from the house with Brite.
We almost searched the whole island for 3 hours but still no trace of them. We were walking into the forest, the last place to check, our last hope of today. This forest was pretty big to be honest. Branches and tree trunks laid everywhere. We were walking for 20 minutes in this huge ass forest when Brite stopped walking. I turned around and looked at her. I asked curiously. She said, staring at something with wide eyes. What was she looking at? I turned to the direction of where she was looking at and my eyes shot open. I saw a pink color that stood out. It couldn't be...
Calamity...
It really was her... And Deadfire laid next to her, as they were both unconscious. I started running towards Calamity and Deadfire. They were on the floor, as if they were lifeless. I fell on my knees next to Calamity and Brite was with Deadfire. She was shot in her lower neck and in her hip. She was bleeding badly. And then, something else caught my eye. Her scar... Its was cut open again. I grew furious because of this. This was 100% Rodas. He will pay for everything!

Brite immediately called the ambulance and I put my index finger on my earbud. I yelled. John asked. I said with a slight shaking voice. John said and then the call was over. I looked at Calamity with tears in my eyes. I wanted to hold her in my arms so badly, but that could hurt her more with these wounds. I started sobbing more and Brite noticed that. She said trying to comfort me.
I heard some sirens coming this way. I saw that there were 2 ambulances driving on the small road towards us. When they stopped, ambulance assistants got out of the car and pulled the ambulance stretcher out of each car. 2 assistants were running towards us. One of the assistants kneeled down next to Calamity and another one net to Deadfire. They both checked their pulse rates from their neck. The assistant yelled. I was kind of relieved to hear that she was still alive, but a small pulse...? That was the point I was worrying about. The other assistant yelled.
All the ambulance assistants helped putting Calamity and Deadfire on the stretchers very carefully. They were each brought to an ambulance. I wanted to drive along but I noticed there was no room for me and Brite. I suggested as I started running out of the forest with Brite behind me. The ambulances already left the forest. When we got out of the forest, I saw a quadcrasher. I ran towards it and sat on it and Brite jumped sat in the back.
I pressed the gass padle and speeded towards the hospital. When we arrived, I saw 2 ambulances parked, but no one was inside. I assumed they were already taken inside. When I parked the quad, the rest of the team arrived. Sunstrider asked worried. I said and ran inside with everyone else behind me. I ran to the reception and asked where they were. The lady said they were brought to the surgery room on the 3rd floor. I thanked her and ran towards the stairs. When we were on the 3rd floor, I followed the sign that led us to the surgery room. We arrived at the room but we of course weren't allowed to go in. We had to wait outside.

We sat on the chairs and waited for at least 30 minutes. Finally, the door opened and a doctor walked out. Everyone stood up and surrounded the doctor, wanting answers. John asked quickly. The doctor was quiet for a few seconds. The doctor started talking. The doctor said with a sad tone.
Everyone stared at the doctors with shock and wide eyes. Deadfire didn't make it... He is dead... Calamity is going to be broken when she hears this. Wait Calamity. OH MY GOD WHAT ABOUT HER! I said clutching on to the doctors arms. The doctor said and walked away to where ever he was going. I asked looking at the others with a shaky voice. John gently pulled me to a chair and made me sit. He sat down next to me and looked at me. John said looking me in the eyes. I just nodded and looked at the ground.
After waiting 5 hours, Carbide, Dire, Technique, Abstract, Raptor, Brite and John left. Sunny wanted to stay here with me and I was okay with that. John asked us to call him if there was any news. It was 21:34 at the moment and I was kind of getting sleepy. I let my eyes close and fell asleep for 2 hours. When I woke up I saw Sunny wasn't here. I checked my phone and saw it was 23:42. I started to worry like crazy... The surgery was literally taking more than 7 hours... I kind of started to doubt if she will make it but, I didn't lose all of my hope.
I got back to reality when I heard footsteps on my left. I saw Sunny walking towards me with 2 cups of coffee. She said softly, handing one of the cups over. I said and took a few sips of the coffee. After some more sips, I finished the coffee and stood up to walk to the trash can, which was across of me. As I reached the trash can, I threw the empty cup away and wanted to walk back to Sunny, who was seated on the chair, still drinking her coffee. But when I was walking, I heard the sound of automatic doors opening. My head shot up towards the door and I saw the doctor again.
I speed walked towards him and Sunny stood up and walked towards him too. Sunny asked with worried eyes. He slowly nodded and looked at us. He stopped talking. I asked panicking. He finished talking. I yelled. Sunny said pulling me back by my arms. He said and wanted to walk away but I grabbed him by his arm. He turned around and faced me. I asked with a soft, sad voice. The doctor said and walked away. Sunny said and we walked to the cafeteria.
We sat down in the cafeteria. There weren't to many people since it was late. Sunny asked, pulling me from my thoughts. I said. Sunny stood up and walked to the cashier. A few minutes later she came back with 2 sandwiches. She handed me one and we started eating. I asked, breaking the silence. Sunny looked up to me and then down again. She said not making eye contact.
After 25 minutes we finished our sandwiches and decided to go to the reception. I asked the same lady again for Calamity her room. She replied. I thanked her and I walked to the elevator with Sunny. We entered and pressed the button for the 4th floor. When we got out we were following the signs to the intensive care. On our way there I remembered I had to call John. I pulled out my phone and called John. I heard John ask. I said with a low voice at the last part. John asked. I said. John then hang up.

Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them. If you read this story then you won't lack for content. -- The Topps Company, Inc. has sole ownership of the names, logo, artwork, marks, photographs, sounds, audio, video and/or any proprietary material used in connection with the game Shadowrun.
