《The Fox and the Wolf》Chapter 5: Let Her Out

"Is it ok if I shift back now?" I asked and he nodded. I quickly shifted into my fox and found that I was smothered by his shirt. Derek chuckled before helping me out of it. When it wasn't around me anymore I shook out my fur.
"Ready for some lunch?" He asked.
Hell yeah! I responded and ran out the door. Derek quickly followed me and found me in the kitchen waiting for him.
"What could you like?" He asked me as he looked in the fridge. I walked over and stood on my hind legs to see what was there.
Turkey? I asked. He grabbed the turkey and gave me a few pieces.
"Would you like anything else your majesty?" He asked in a horrible English accent and I looked in the fridge again.
Why yes. I'd be thrilled if you could pass me the chicken in the back, sir. I replied in an equally horrible accent. He laughed and passed me the chicken.
Did you want to tell my parents that you're a shifter? Derek asked in my head this time.
Were they the couple that you told before? I asked and he nodded.
I guess we could. Can I trust them not to tell hunters? I asked as I finished devouring the chicken.
I'll make them swear it.
Okay sure. Let's do it now. I told him and trotted off to the office to wait. Derek came back a few minutes later with his parents. Derek sat in the large chair and I sat beside him on the desk.
"That's just sick." His mum said and he looked at her confused.
"You've marked each other. I can't believe you. She's an animal!" Her voice grew louder. Derek just sighed and stripped his shirt off and handed it to me, confusing his parents. I went behind the large chair and shifted, pulling the shirt over my head. I stepped into view and they gasped. Derek pulled me into his lap and buried his face in my neck, his hot breath tickling my new mark.
"This makes no sense." His father said.
"What doesn't?" Derek asked, his voice muffled by my neck.
"She's a fox shifter which don't exist, she's been in her fox form this whole time and no one noticed, she's still got ears and a tail and why doesn't she stay in human form?" His father listed and Derek took his head out of my neck.
"She's the only fox shifter that exists, she's been in her fox form so long that she's lost the scent of her human side, the ears and tail we can't explain and she doesn't like her human form because it she feels vulnerable and in danger." Derek explained. Trust him to leave nothing out. I put my head on Derek's bare shoulder and closed my eyes.
"Is she a danger to the pack?" His father asked. They're talking about me like I'm not even here.
"She's been here for two days without doing anything to engender the pack. If she hasn't done something by now she never will." Derek defended me.
"What's her real name?" His mother asked gently.

"It's Melody." Derek told her. My head suddenly shot up when I caught a sound with my ultra-sensitive hearing. My ears moved in different directions as I tried to pin-point and identify the sound.
"Melody? What is it?" Derek asked and I put my hand over his mouth to keep his quiet. I sniffed the air and I caught a scent that matched the sound.
"There are rogues at the border." I said before taking another deep breath.
"27 of them. All male. They're talking." I said.
"What are they saying?" Derek's father asked.
"Kill the Alpha. Be careful though, he's strong. If he has a mate then take her alive if you can't kill him. Kill anyone that gets in your way, and I mean anyone." I quoted. I looked at Derek to see his eyes were pitch black. I took my hand away and put it on his cheek.
"Calm down. Nothing bad is going to happen. I have an idea." I told him and his eyes slowly faded back to normal.
"What's your idea?" He asked.
"My idea is that you stay here and I'll be right back." I said as I got off his lap.
"What? No! You're not going out there!" He shouted and I sighed.
"Just trust me. You can watch from the window if you'd like." I told him before shifting, getting out of the shirt and ran out of the pack house. I have three forms. My human form, my fox form and my... other one. I don't know how to explain it. I don't use it very often because I can lose control and go on a killing spree. I ran around the group of rogues and stopped behind them. I let out a growl and they all turned to look at me, laughing when they saw my small size. They won't be laughing for long. I concentrate on the shift and it takes place a few seconds later. My body gets bigger and bigger until it is twice the size of an alpha. My amber eyes change into a blood red. My orange fur becomes a mix of dark red, orange and yellow with black stripes that wrap around my legs like tentacles. Instead of one tail I know have nine, all huge and swishing with a mind of their own. My teeth have grown longer, so long they went past my chin. I let out another growl but this one was deep and it vibrated the ground. The rogues began to shake with fear.
"Attack!" The leader yelled. They all shifted and ran towards me. It was flurry of claws, fur and teeth but eventually all the rogues were dead at my feet. I shifted back into my little fox which is now covered head to tail in crimson blood. I ran back inside and up to Derek and his parents who were staring at me with matching worried and mildly confused expressions.
What's wrong? I asked Derek over the link. He was silent for a few seconds while he stared at me.
We didn't see much. A few flashes of orange but it appeared to be much bigger than you. Now all the rogues are dead and you're covered head to toe in blood. He told me and I looked away from him.

What was that thing? He asked and I looked him in the eye.
A part of me I hate more than my human self. I said before turning and walking out of the office. I walk up to Derek's room and straight into the shower. I shift into my human form which is covered in blood. I turn the tap and let the hot water pelt my muscles.
So, you've let me out after all these years. The voice said in my head.
Leave me alone. I told it but it just chuckled darkly.
I can't do that. You brought me back from dormancy. Soon I'll be strong enough to take over when you're in human form. I have you to thank for that. Maybe I'll slaughter that little mate of yours. That'll be fun. It taunted and I growled but that only seemed to amuse it more.
You can't hide me forever, Mel. I'm part of you. It mocked before disappearing. I watch the blood tinted water fall to the floor and go down the drain. I sat on the floor of the shower and for the first time in years, I cried. I hugged my knees to my chest and wrapped my tail around myself while I sobbed. What have I done? I let her out. I let the one part of me I wanted to keep hidden out. Why wasn't I thinking?! I let out a frustrated shout and pull at the roots of my hair.
"Melody?" I heard Derek knocking on the door. I put an end to the shower and shifted back into my fox form. I barked and he pushed the door open.
"Are you okay?" He asked and I nodded. I followed him out of the bedroom and he sat on the bed. I felt her trying to take control. I tried to push her back but like she said, she's getting stronger. Soon she took over. I felt my eyes turn their devilish red. She made my body shift into human form and stand in front of Derek naked with a smirk on my face.
"M-Melody?" He stuttered and she chuckled.
"It's not Melody, sweetheart." She purred. I tried screaming out to Derek but I couldn't get through. She walked towards him and knelt down in front of him, her hand going straight for his lap. She rubbed him through his pants and he grew hard under her touch. He sudden shoved her hands away and stood up, moving away from her.
"Bring Melody back. Now." He said forcefully and she just laughed.
"Why should I? She kept me hidden for years. Maybe I should do the same to her and see how much trouble I can get this lowly pack in." She said with a grin and Derek growled loudly.
"Bring her back!" He shouted and she tsked him.
"That's no way to talk to your mate." She said as she pouted mockingly.
"You're not my mate. Melody is." Derek told her.
"Well guess what sunshine? We're a two for one package." She said with a wink. All of a sudden he had her by the throat and held up against the wall.
"I like it rough." She purred and he tightened his grip.
Melody?! He called out through the link.
Derek! I called back, hoping he could hear me. The look on his face didn't waver from the terrifying glare.
Melody! I can hear you! What can I do? He asked.
Lichen! Feed her lichen! It'll poison her! I told him.
Won't that poison you too? He asked.
I'll be fine. I said. His eyes glassed over as he used his mind link with someone else. A few minutes later his mum burst into the room and gasped at what she saw.
"Oh look. Another whore. I would just love to hear your screams as I ripped your mate and child to shreds." She said with a psychotic grin.
"What's wrong with her?" His mother asked.
"Just give it to me." Derek said and held out his hand. She passed him a plant and he shoved it down my throat. Her red eyes widened as she began to react to the poison. My body began to convulse as we were both affected. As she slowly grew weaker I managed to take control back. Derek sighed in relief when he saw my eyes fade from red to amber. I was still convulsing as the poison worked its way through my system. I felt someone drape a blanket over me. I was pulled into Derek's lap and he held me tightly.
"What happened to her?" His mother asked.
"From what I have gathered, she has a spirit inside her like we have our wolf. Hers is quite powerful and tonight it took over. It's kind of obvious that it's twisted and evil, the complete opposite of Melody. The lichen is a poison to foxes so when I fed it to her it poisoned the evil part of her and she managed to gain control back but the poison has also affected her." Derek explained perfectly.
"Is there anything we can do to keep that spirit away but let her keep control of her spirit's form?" His mother asked and he fell silent.
W-witch. I stuttered in his mind.
"Are you sure?" He asked out loud.
Yes. I told him.
"She said that I witch might be able to help." He told her and her eyes widened.
"You know that witches despise werewolves." She told him.
"I don't care. She needs help." He said defiantly.
F-find the witch called J-Justin. I stuttered in his mind and he nodded at me. My convulsing had stopped but I felt my body temperature rising. I can hear her screeching in pain in the back of my mind. I lay there while people came back and forth and Derek gave them orders. By the time the third hour had rolled around I could barely keep my eyes open.
"Where is this fucking witch?!" Derek demanded as he gently laid me on the bed and sat next to me. My eyes drifted closed and I passed out.

Almave
Welcome to AlmaVé. First thing you have to know is that it's a tragedy. Nope, not talking about my book yet. It's a tragedy that you're reading this instead of clicking on chapter 1. I did fail speech introductions after all. My story? Right that's what you're here for. My bad, try this: Lilia Hammond is reborn (cliché, but we all know we enjoy it when it's done for a purpose) as Syndra Sanmey. She was a graphic designer who hadn't caught her break yet. She was paralyzed for months before she was offered the opportunity to join a program that would allow her to-NOPE! not virtual reality. The doctors killed her and dumped her body. Tough. In her new world, Lilia has to fight herself to find out who she truly is. With the possibility to cast magic and a second chance at life, Lilia thinks she can really make something for herself. Her goal? Become the greatest artist the world had ever seen. The rub? World is a bit darker than anything she saw on earth. Thankfully, Lilia is getting quite familiar with the darkness inside her and her magic might just be the thing to save the-hey! wait it's not that kind of book. No saving the world. No hero syndrome. Just magic and blood and a bit of crafting. Yup. Fighting. Romance? Eh? What's that? The first arc is Lilia's shift from Earth to creating backstories for the three major characters. It's not funny and light. It's often dark and funny. Ah, I really should have gone through a punk-rock phase. Or goth. Would I look good with black hair? Hmm.. There are three MCs and they are Jackson, Daryl, and Lilia/Syndra. Daryl is currently kidnapped and Jackson just awakened his magic. I don't want to spoil (much) but soon things will be very fun to write. Hope to see you there! Leave a comment even if you're just stopping by so I can say hey! Chapters to be published twice weekly. Check tags before reading.

Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.

Sacrificed in Thirty Seconds
A somewhat unusual reincarnation story, where the main character is thrown into a new world and tries to survive. It is a combination of survival/adventure. I wrote it as a fast-paced, action driven story. If you like slice of life, or extensive descriptions, it is probably not for you. This is my first book here, I will not remove it, but do not expect anything special.
