《The Entire Sky | Madara Uchiha》Epilogue Part II: Return

Hi, guys! This was a one shot request from @Gdjkduf that I had actually been toying with for a while. It's also published in my Naruto One Shots story if you'd like to read it there!
This is the final installment of The Entire Sky. It's bittersweet to end it; however, it must be done. When I began writing this story, I had no idea where it was going but I knew it would find its way. Thank you all for the support, votes, and comments, it truly means the world to me.

Sasuke looked carefully between the revived Hokage. They all stood with firm faces, watching the people in front of them intently. After the situation was explained, Hashirama shook his head and paced a bit. Madara, he thought, how could you become this? She would be so heartbroken at this mess.
"Shodaime, Nidaime," Hiruzen asked, "what should we do? Is there a way we can defeat Madara Uchiha?"
Hashirama's gaze raised to Tobirama. They spoke with their eyes, a disagreement quickly arising. Tobirama shook his head as he whispered, "No..."
"Tobirama," he returned, "I think she could do it."
"But what if she can't?"
A warm smile graced Hashirama's face and he cheerily responded, "Worst case scenario, we get to see her again."
The rest of the group watched as the brothers argued vaguely. Sasuke then stepped forward and asked in a cutting tone, "Who is this woman you're speaking of?"
Hashirama turned to the young Uchiha and replied, "The woman who might be able to stop Madara Uchiha..." He paused for dramatic effect and gave a smirk as he finished, "The one and only, Sen Hyuga."
"Never heard of her," Sasuke replied in a bored tone.
Keeping his smirk, he answered with a laugh, "Once you meet her, you'll never forget her."
Orochimaru began to chuckle as he spoke up, "And you plan on reanimating this woman?"
"Of course," Hashirama responded. "That's where Tobirama comes in."
The albino man rolled his eyes and sighed in slight annoyance.
After a bit of coaxing, Tobirama began the preparations for reanimating Sen. He focused on the jutsu and placed his all into it, slowly feeling the chakra pour from his fingertips into her form.
The group gathered around and watched as the small woman slowly began to move. She sat up and looked around, her pale eyes wide as she surveyed the room. She asked, "Where... am I?"
"It's been a while, Sen," Tobirama greeted her.
"Tobirama," she replied softly, "it's you."
Sen stood and stretched her limbs, feeling the strangeness of this new body. She looked around the room at the strangers surrounding her. She asked again, "Where am I? Who are you all? Am I alive?"
Hashirama stepped forward to answer, "We're here to save the world, Sen. And we need you to do it."
"Me?" she asked, pulling her head back in shock.
"And, yes, you're kinda alive," Hashirama continued, "You're under a jutsu Tobirama created long ago."
Sen cut her eyes at the white-haired Senju as she laughed dryly, "Of course."
Tobirama turned his head up at her and pouted his lip as he replied, "As difficult as ever, I see."
"Fuck off, Tobirama," she answered, waving her hand and brushing him off. She then turned her focus onto the young man in front of her. He felt and looked oddly familiar as if it were someone she had known in another life or seen in a dream.

She stepped closer to him, letting her eyes gaze over his cold face. She closed her eyes and chuckled, "You look like his brother..." She stood in front of Sasuke, a sad smile pulling on her face as she whispered, "But your chakra feels just like... his."
Sen looked over her shoulder, looking between Hashirama and Tobirama. Her face was filled with conflict, but a smile began to break through. She then asked the brothers, "Did he move on after my death? Was he happy?"
Her head turned back to Sasuke and she asked a final question, "This boy... is he his great-grandchild?"
Sen's eyes were hopeful, and Hashirama bit his lip nervously as Tobirama laughed gently. She waited for one of them to answer, but Sasuke interrupted and coldly asked, "Who is this person you're talking about?"
A little smile played on her face and she responded in a lovestruck tone, "Well, Madara Uchiha, of course."
Hashirama lay his hand on Sen's shoulder and spoke softly, "We should talk for a moment, Sen."
She nodded mechanically and listened as the Senju's told her everything that happened after her passing. It broke her heart to hear of the sorrow that Madara had endured, leading him to abandon everything and become an antagonist to the place he once loved and called home.
As they filled her in, all she could do was nod. She said nothing more but simply returned her attention to the black-haired boy. Her eyes met his and she asked in an even tone, "You're an Uchiha, but who are you?"
"Sasuke Uchiha," he answered sternly, cutting his eyes down to the white-eyed woman.
"Nice to meet you."
"Hn."
Sen smiled and spoke, "Yep, he's an Uchiha."

The dust swirled around the battlefield, cloaking shinobi as they fought fruitlessly.
A loud noise came from above and she saw a familiar figure storming down to the cliff. As the figure landed and the dust settled, her heart began pounding furiously.
"Madara," she whispered breathlessly.
She began to run toward him, but Tobirama grabbed her arm tightly and harshly spoke, "Don't. Not yet. It isn't safe."
"It's Madara," she replied venomously. "He would never hurt me."
Tobirama looked at her evenly and explained, "We don't know if he's your Madara, Sen. Please, just be patient."
Sen nodded and watched as Madara shouted Hashirama's name. She stood beside Tobirama, her soul aching to embrace her lover once more.
The moment Madara saw her, his mind became blank. Was it really, Sen? He felt his hands trembling and his heart racing as he kept a long gaze on her. The heaviness of his stare tore through Sen and she fought against every inch of her body to keep from running to him.
"Sen," Madara croaked softly. He dropped his gunbai and stepped to the edge of the cliff. He spoke louder, his voice wavering a bit, "Sen Hyuga!"
She walked past Tobirama, standing at the front of the group and looking up at the man she believed hung the stars. Tears welled in her eyes. She cleared her throat and replied, "Madara."
"Why are you here?" His tone was filled with concern, anger, confusion, love.
A sad smile was on her face as she answered him, "To save you from yourself, my love."
His face grew cold and he stepped back. He shook his head and angrily shouted, "No! Sen, you don't understand what's going on."
Hashirama stood beside her now, keeping a hard stare on Madara as the man paced with clenched fists.

"All of this," Madara growled, his voice thick, "is so no one has to be tortured by the suffering of losing someone like you. I'm creating a perfect world, Sen! One where we could be happy! Don't you get it?!"
She shook her head and laughed softly, "But we were happy, Madara? Weren't we?"
"Of course we were!" he shouted. "Until that bastard brother of yours drove a blade through you! Do you not remember that, Sen?!" His chest was heaving with angry breaths.
"Madara..." she called out. "Of course I remember... but please, don't do this."
He picked up his gunbai with a firm fist and looked down at the Hyuga woman. His heart ached as he turned his back and fled the scene. Sen's shoulders fell and she looked back to the others. In a small voice, she said, "I'm sorry. I don't... He's... "
She stumbled for words until Hashirama laid a hand on her shoulder and reassured her everything would be okay.

Sen couldn't believe her eyes. As far as she could see, the world was covered in the thick trunks of trees. People hung from cocoons, nestled in their perfect nightmares.
"Tobirama?" she shouted out as she searched for him.
Hashirama had gone to fight Madara, leaving Sen with the younger Senju brother. She bounced around, looking for that mess of white hair among the trees. Whenever she spotted him, she jumped down and asked in astonishment, "Have you ever seen anything like this?"
"Never," he looked around, amazed by the power of this jutsu.
Sen clicked her tongue. "I assume we weren't affected because we're dead."
"Mhmm."
She then asked, "Why was I reanimated? To throw Madara off course?"
"Hashirama believes you're the only one that can get through to Madara."
"Then why didn't he let me go with him?"
Tobirama laughed and shook his head, "They're settling an old score. Your time will come later, Sen."
She sighed and looked up to the red moon. She remembered a night with Madara watching the sunset. She closed her eyes and was drawn deeply into the memory.
He smiled and threw an arm around her shoulders before pulling her close to his side. Her head leaned against his shoulder and she relaxed as they watched the sun dip low. The sky burned a fiery red color, wrapping the world in a warm hue.
Sen chuckled, "The sky is an Uchiha tonight."
"What a Sharingan she has," Madara replied good-naturedly.
"It's really beautiful, honestly..." Sen spoke as her eyes were glazed over.
He nodded and agreed that the sky was beautiful. However, she shook her head and said, "No, no... The Sharingan. It's thrilling, mysterious, and powerful."
"You're forgetting tragic," Madara added in a low voice.
Tragic, she thought. The silent world around her showed the prowess and pain of the Sharingan. She was pulled back to reality at the sound of Tobirama's voice.
"Sen... I'm very sorry for the mistakes of my past."
She cocked her head and asked, "Why are you apologizing? Being an insufferable asshole is the only crime you've committed against me." She smiled lopsidedly.
His ruby eyes narrowed and he watched as Sen broke into laughter. She spoke airily, "You're so serious, Tobirama. Any mistakes you feel you've made towards me are absolved. What happened to me was never your fault. It was Mizura's."
"But I told him where you were that day."
Sen shrugged, "He would've found me one way or another. As I said, you're forgiven. Now, let's go meet up with the others."
Tobirama used his teleportation jutsu to get them back to the others. Whenever they arrived, Sen felt her stomach twist in knots as she saw Madara laying on the ground.
She broke into a sprint and rushed to his side. As she neared him, she called his name. Madara felt a chill ripple through his body as he heard Sen's voice. The way she said his name sounded exactly like the first time when he walked her home. His eyes flew open and he mouthed, "Sen."
She fell to her knees beside him and began running her fingers through his hair. She saw tears flooding his eyes. He blinked to keep them away, but eventually gave up and let them run down his face. He whispered softly, "It's you..."
"It's me, Madara," she replied.
A smile was on his tired face. He asked in a voice filled with sorrow, "Why, Sen?"
She shook her head in confusion and asked what he was talking about. He spoke in a shaking voice, just above a whisper, "Why couldn't I find you? When I died, I looked everywhere... Just for you."
"Well," she gently replied, holding his cheek in her hand, "You held onto your hatred, my love. You could never have followed me carrying those burdens."
"Was I supposed to forgive them for what they did to you? To my brother?"
Sen laid a soft kiss on his lips and breathed, "Death is only the beginning." She paused and smiled, tears filling her own eyes now. "Do you remember when I asked you if the stars get lonely?"
He nodded. "And I said they had the moon for company."
A chuckle passed through her lips as tears rolled down her cheeks freely. She continued, "Madara..." She kissed him softly as she whispered, "Turns out there's a lifetime in the stars... An eternity built for you and I."
"Don't soothe me with fantasies, Sen."
She shook her head, "No, no, no... I'm not."
Madara locked eyes with her. She still looked at him with such love, such admiration, even after all of the terrible things he had done. He closed his eyes and winced at the pain in his side.
"The things you've carried are heavy, my love... Don't you think it's time to rest now?" she whispered, smoothing his wild hair away from his face.
He hummed in agreement. Sen noticed the weakness in his eyes and knew that soon he would be dead. She ran her fingers along his collarbones.
"I loved you..." Madara began to hoarsely whisper, "Every single moment of every single day."
She smiled and rested her forehead against his.
He spoke once more, "Even now, I still love you so damn much."
"I love you as well. I always have and I always will."
Madara opened his eyes and smiled softly, "Promise me... we'll watch the stars together again."
"Every night," she gently replied, "for the rest of eternity."
"I'll be seeing you soon, darling" he whispered weakly, clutching her hand in his.
"I won't keep you waiting long."
She kissed him once more before the life slipped from his body. She closed her eyes for a moment before standing up and stating firmly, "I'm ready to leave. Break the jutsu, Tobirama."

Sen woke in a daze. She stumbled for a moment before regaining her balance and slowly making her way through the garden of stars.
Where is he? Sen asked herself as she searched for Madara. She prayed he let go of his hatred so that he could join her in this afterlife.
Suddenly, she felt his soothing presence. She turned around and came face to face with him.
"You're here."
Madara stepped forward and placed his hands on her waist as he replied, "I am."
They held hands and walked through the void of stars. Sen explained this strange place to Madara as they made their way to her favorite spot. They took a seat in a bed of dark clover and watched the midnight terrain transform into an array of bright stars.
Madara held her in his lap as he remembered the first time he told her that he loved her.
"I..." Madara opened his mouth to speak. His words caught in his throat as her eyes bore into him. A divine smile pulled at the corner of his lips as he abandoned words for the moment being. He kissed her firmly, causing her to altogether lose her breath. Time seemed to stand still as they fell into one another heart and soul.
As the kiss ended, Madara held her cheek gently in his palm as he spoke once again, "If I have a million lifetimes, I hope to be at your side in every last one of them."
Sen was radiant as she absorbed his words. Her heart felt like it was soaring as it pounded so loudly in her chest that she was certain he would hear. She mouthed his name under her breath but was unable to form a coherent thought.
"I'm in love with you, Sen," he whispered after a small silence.
"I..." she stuttered before an airy laugh escaped her lips and she told him, "I love you too, Madara."
He pulled himself from his reverie and whispered to her, "Is this our happy ending?"
She laid her head back onto his shoulder and asked, "Are you happy?"
"Yes."
"Hm," she hummed softly as she smiled and kissed his cheek. "Well, if you're happy and I'm happy, then I'd say everything turned out alright, wouldn't you?"
He squeezed her tighter, laughing richly as the realization set in. He looked up to the glittering sky and then down to Sen. His lips pressed against the crown of her head and he smiled.
This was their forever.
