"Colby, come on! She's going to be here any minute!" I heard Sam yell from downstairs.

Rolling my eyes, I saved the video I was currently editing and made my way to the foyer where we would be greeting our possible roommate.

Sam had been cleaning the house top to bottom in preparation for the girl that was apparently coming over. You'd think his mother was visiting with how shiny the floors were. I swear I could see my own sweat reflecting off the tile with how reflective they were, and how hot California was today.

Even with having a maid, Sam made sure this place was spic and span. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if we opened the door and the Queen of England was on the other side with how sparkling our home was.

When we heard the gate buzzer, Sam waited impatiently for her to get to our front door, his foot tapping anxiously, whereas I just wanted to get this over with, and finish editing our next YouTube video. I haven't had a good night's rest in a month, since our last video went up so I was definitely looking forward to getting this video into our finalize folder.

I will admit that Sam has been handling the new roommate stuff while I worked with our editor, which meant I knew absolutely nothing about whomever we were waiting on. I didn't even know her name. I just knew we were expecting some sort of female on the other side of our door in five minutes and that Sam had asked if I was comfortable living with a female roommate.

I watched Sam glance over my outfit as he waited, and I couldn't help but cock an eyebrow at him. "Sam approved?" I asked. I glanced down at my outfit, taking in my black on black look.

I was wearing black skinny jeans and a black t-shirt that had our explore logo on it accompanied by a few of my rings. I figured I shouldn't wear my own face on my shirt when we met this possible roommate of ours, considering how much effort Sam put into being Cinderella today.

I couldn't help but chuckle to myself at the thought of him running around the house like a chicken with it's head cut off, making sure everything was sparkly and pristine.

He really wanted this to work out.

"I'm honestly just glad you found pants" Sam shook his head at me and I grinned.

"Awe thanks brother! I found them on the floor" I chuckled and Sam rolled his eyes.

"I want this one to work out, Colby. Be on your best behavior" Sam basically threatened me, only confirming my thoughts seconds ago.

I knew how stressful this was for him, especially since we had a couple people spontaneously move out whilst we were away, which I can assure you was quite the surprise to find a note from your supposed friends on the kitchen counter, after a month of being away from home.

We were out of the country filming for our next few videos, so you can imagine the surprise when you walk into a quiet house with just a piece of notebook paper laying on the counter.

"We've literally only met with two other people, and the first one was the actual worst. You can't deny that" I scoffed at him quickly, leaning on the wall and pulling out my phone to check my messages.

This one guy we thought would fit perfectly, turned out to be the actual worst. He moved in and was kicked out after 2 weeks.

After that experience, I haven't exactly been on board with this whole stranger living in our home whilst we were away, thing.

"Okay, maybe the second guy had some problems, but that doesn't mean we couldn't live with him" Sam argued and I shook my head but before I could reply, the doorbell rang and Sam looked at me and didn't move, making me stare at him. "What are you waiting for? Answer it" I chuckled.

"I'm waiting a minute, acting like I had to get up to answer it, I don't want to look desperate" Sam tried to justify his actions but I rolled my eyes at his abrupt stupidity.

"Dude I'm pretty sure she can see our shadows right now just like we can see hers. Go answer it" I laughed at Sam's stunned expression before he quickly pulled the front door open.

I stuffed my phone back into my pocket, putting on my best welcoming smile as Sam opened the front door.

Once she was in view I inhaled quickly.

She was definitely not at all what I was expecting..

She had black hair that went to the top of her ribs. It had a slight wave to it, her fingers were laced together, draped at the bottom of her stomach as she was glancing towards the floor. I watched her eyes lift from the ground when she noticed the door had opened, taking me by surprise to see her green eyes staring back at us.

She had on vans and some black skinny jeans along with a sweatshirt that read "beauty isn't measured by makeup" in a small dainty font across her chest.

Wasn't she sweating?

"Hello! Come in! I'm Sam, this is Colby" Sam gestured towards me. "Hey!" I spoke with a slightly excited tone wanting her to feel welcome. I kept having to remind myself that Sam really wanted this one to work out so he could stop looking at applications every waking moment.

"Hi, I'm Leighton," She said softly. Her voice wasn't quiet by all means, but she definitely spoke at a lower tone, almost like she didn't feel the need to be the center of attention.

"This is the foyer, straight ahead to the left is the kitchen, can we get you anything to drink?" Sam asked, motioning to the entrance we were currently standing in.

I couldn't help but chuckle to myself, thinking about how straight to the point Sam got by immediately starting the house tour.

"Um, no thank you" She shook her head, glancing over towards me before following Sam.

Sam gave her the grand tour of our home, showing her the perks and the weird nooks and crannies. "This would be your room. Right now it just has a futon in it, in case someone needs a place to stay, but we have a guest bedroom downstairs. Sorry it's a little messy right now. We just got back a couple days ago from a trip" Sam explained, showing her the room. It was fairly small. Enough room for a bed, desk and the closet.

I was kinda surprised that Sam didn't offer up the empty roommates from the old roommates, but it did still have some of their stuff in it..

I stared at him for a second, trying to figure out why he showed her what would be arguably the worst room in the house but to my surprise she nodded, staying silent and glancing around. I could see her gnawing on her bottom lip, seeming to be thinking. We walked back downstairs and I headed towards the glass doors that led outside, "You have a pool" She sounded surprised, which surprised me.

"We are in California after all!" Sam said in a cheery tone and I couldn't help but laugh, thinking about how she was surprised that a big house, in California, had a pool. Sitting on the side of the pool, letting my feet dip in after scooting up the bottom of my jeans, finally relaxing a bit, and trying to let the sun take away some of my stress.

Life hasn't exactly been a cake walk lately..

"Do you want to do the interview inside or would you like to join Colby by dipping our feet into the pool?" Sam questioned as I dangled my feet in the water, making it splash around me.

"Um, inside is fine" I heard her say from behind me and I sighed, really wanting to jump into this pool right now.

"C'mon Colby!" Sam spoke in a slight annoyance but I could tell he was trying to mask it.

I felt bad that I was coming off as a douche and off putting, but I really didn't care who lived here, I just hoped that they were better than our last choices and that they were able to pick up after themselves. Our old roommate was horrible at that. His stuff was everywhere, all the time.

We got seated on the couch, the girl crossing her legs over one another, her hands folding to sit on her knee and that's when I noticed her right hand had a huge rose tattoo covering the top of her hand, which from what I could tell looked really cool. I tried to scan her for more tattoos, but you could only see her face, hands and ankles. I smiled to myself, feeling intrigued, and like we had something in common already.

"I like your tattoo!" I commented, glancing towards her hand. She looked down before glancing up and smiling softly at me. "Thank you. I got it about a year ago, I love it"

"Alright, well I guess we should get this interview started. It's nothing too intense, just some basic questions to see if you would fit in well. We obviously want you to feel comfortable here. I have some questions on my phone, bare with me at the dumb ones, they were from our roommates" Sam laughed, typing the passcode into his IPhone.

The girl smiled, nodding.

"Have you had any trouble paying rent on time?" Sam asked, putting his phone back down and giving the woman in front of us his full attention.

"Um, well I haven't really done the whole roommate thing before. You said 200 right?" She asked nervously, both of us nodding.

"We aren't desperate for money, it's more so just to make sure everyone's covered. Covers room, food etc. Is it a problem?" Sam asked and she shook her head.

"No" She responded quietly, biting her bottom little nervously, and fidgeting with the rings on her fingers.

"You said you've never lived with a roommate before?" I questioned, feeling a little confused as to why she'd choose us to be her first roommate.

"Um, well I've been living out of my parents home for about a year now, but something happened with who I was living with, so now I need a new place to stay until I can get my own" She spoke in a louder tone than before. Almost sounding a little defensive.

"You're 20 right?" Sam asked, and I noticed he had her application up which I thought was strange since he used to memorize those things like his life depended on it.

"Yes. I'll be 21 in a couple months" She confirmed.

"What is your current occupation? The boys and I tend to get home late with our careers" Sam explained, setting his phone down.

"Um, well I used to work at a bookstore but I'm currently on a job hunt. I can get back to you when I land one" She spoke quietly again, sounding insecure and unsure. She seemed so nervous, I was honestly starting to feel bad for her.

"The boys can sometimes get messy, I'm not asking this like you're going to be our maid, but do you pick up after yourself?" Sam chuckled. I laughed at how awkward he sounded.

I leaned back against the couch cushions, trying not to disrupt Sam's interviewing process. We usually had friends, or like friends of friends move in, so this was new for us.

He was handling it with the same amount of seriousness as you would a multi-million dollar business deal.

"I don't think I'm messy? My mom always tells me she forgets she had me because my brother's stuff is always all over the house" She giggled, trying not to fully smile.

"Oh, you have a brother? So you're used to living with annoying boys" Sam laughed, the girl nodding with a small smile.

I couldn't help but find myself wishing she wasn't so reserved. Was she going to be boring to live with? Would it always feel a little awkward?

"Our roommate Jake has said we must ask you what your favorite color is. Claiming it will tell him everything he needs to know about you" Sam rolled his eyes, getting ready to type her answer down.

"I love the color burgundy. It's actually my nail color right now" She showed us her nails quickly before folding them together again. I noticed she had quite a few rings on her fingers.

"Damn, maybe I should paint my nails that color" I laughed a little, more so was just air coming out of my nose, admiring her perfect manicure as I looked at my own chipped black nail polish.

"I thought about dying my hair that color, but I don't want to go through the process of it" She shrugged, looking back at Sam, probably waiting for his next question.

"What do you like to do for fun? Colby and I love exploring and going on late night adventures, right Colby?" Sam looked over at me, almost seeming concerned at my behavior.

I nodded, trying not to zone out. I felt bad for how I was coming off, I was just extremely tired from filming the night before. I honestly don't know how Sam is so peppy right now.

I was hoping she could tell I was tired, and didn't think I was being a dick.

"Um, I like drawing and reading. I don't really have time to go exploring. Is it fun to go out at night and explore or is it scary?"

"It definitely can be scary! Like last night, we went to a film with a couple of our friends, and got lost and then some creepy person yelled at us, acting like he wanted to join us. Honestly couldn't have waited to get out of there" Sam chuckled, shaking his head.

"Film?" The girl questioned, and seemed confused. Her face scrunched up a little as she looked between the both of us.

"Everyone in this house is a YouTuber or social media influencer, so let me know if you're not okay being on Camera and we can have a family meeting about it"

"Oh. Um, I've never really thought about it" She fiddled with her rings again, glancing around before looking back at me, then Sam.

"Don't worry, we can talk about it, when it comes down to it. Do you have any pets?" Sam questioned, switching back to his prepared interview questions.

She shook her head, moving her rings up and down her fingers.

"A couple of our roommates have dogs. Are you allergic?"

She shook her head no, pursing her lips to the side before bouncing her foot that was dangling in the air.

"If you do smoke, we prefer you to do it outside. We don't care about drinking" Sam winked, glancing over at me.

"I don't do either of those things, so you don't have to worry about that. Do you guys smoke and drink?"

"We all drink, we like to have parties and live out our 20s but only a couple people smoke, so not really. Jake also wants to know what your favorite movie is" Sam rolled his eyes again, myself actually laughing at that, surprising the girl in front of us.

"Sorry, it just triggered a memory from last night" I excused myself, a small smile keeping itself known on my cheeks.

"I'm unsure of my favorite movie. I don't spend a lot of time watching TV" She shrugged. I could tell she was uncomfortable, but I didn't know why.

"Colby, do you have any questions for Leighton?" Sam asked, turning to look at me.

My eyes widened. LEIGHTON! That was her name!

I sat there for a second, thinking of what I could want to know that Sam hasn't already asked.

"Do you have people over often?" I asked, immediately regretting how lame of a question that was. Way to go Colby.

She shook her head, untangling her hands. "I really only visit my best friend, my aunt and my parents house. I always travel to them. I'm sure at some point my best friend would want to come over, but we usually hang out at her house, due to my last residence"

"Do you only hang out with her?" I questioned, a little confused that it seemed she didn't have many friends.

"Yeah. My friends were my old roommates' friends.. so I can't see them anymore"

"Oh? What happened? If you don't mind me asking" Sam questioned, seeming concerned. I actually matched his level of concern for once, since she seemed to be hiding something that didn't seem to be beneficial for her.

She let out a deep sigh, leaning her head back and sitting up straighter before bringing her attention back to us.

"I used to live with my ex-boyfriend. Something happened and now I'm not. I don't feel like being around his friends so" She confessed, bringing her hand to her face and rubbing her eye a little. I wondered if that was a nervous tick as well, or if it was something she did when she was stressed or frustrated.

"Do you have any questions for us?" Sam asked, scooting to sit on the edge of the couch cushion.

"Do you do group shopping or personal food shopping?"

"What do you mean?"

"Like, is it everyone for themselves or is it a shared effort? Do we share food"

"We share food, but if there is something you want for yourself we have a white board on the fridge I can show you later. Everyone keeps their snacks in their rooms because Colby likes to steal them" Sam rolled his eyes, myself smirking.

"What can I say? I'm a growing boy brother!"

"So hide snacks from Colby. Got it" She snickered.

We were about to stand up, when we heard the front door opening.

"Sam!" I heard Kat yell. My eyes widened, not expecting her to be here. I thought Sam told her we were doing an interview for roommates? I didn't know if Leighton wanted to meet people yet since she had only been here about an hour.

"In the living room!" He called back, looking over at Leighton. "That's my girlfriend Kat. She's really nice, don't worry!" I could tell he also noticed Leighton's behavior change after hearing Kat's voice, making me curious as to what she was thinking about.

"Are you ready to go? You said you'd come with me t- oh hello" Kat spoke, her eyes falling on Leighton.

"Hi" She spoke softly, I could see she was crawling back into her shell which sucked since I thought we were making some progress with getting her to open up.

"I'm Katrina, Sam's girlfriend" Kat held her hand out towards Leighton, who quickly snapped out of her thoughts, shaking Kat's hand.

"Leighton, nice to meet you" Leighton replied.

"Oh! You must be the roommate they're interviewing- oh.... sorry!" Kat squealed, covering her face with her hands before laughing. "I didn't mean to intrude! Sam just said he'd come with me to the store so we could get stuff to make homemade pizza tonight for our date night. I can come back later, I'm so sorry!" Kat looked towards Sam and I, an apologetic expression masking her face as she looked towards Sam.

"Do you come here often?" Leighton asked, her face scrunching up a little, confusion clear on her features.

"Leighton, I just told you I was dating Sam" Kat teased, giggling. I laughed, and Sam chuckled whilst we watched Leighton blush and shake her head quickly.

"No! I'm sorry! I meant do you come over to the house often"

"I mean, I guess. Sam and I do tend to hang out a lot" She smirked, I could tell she was teasing Leighton again, and I wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not.

I was struggling to figure out if Leighton was going to fit well with the boys and I, if she could hold her own or if she was really sensitive.

Leighton huffed and I could see her eyes glisten against the light a little bit, turning away and I noticed Sam gave Kat a disapproving look.

Was she crying?

"I'll meet you in the car" Kat told Sam, making her way back towards the front door.

"Sorry, I told her I was busy until 4-"

"It's okay. Do you have any more questions for me? Or" Leighton chewed on her bottom lip, her fingers fiddling with her rings again. I figured that was a nervous habit she had.
