《Mr. Executive》Chapter 6

The rest of the week goes by without any further incidents of me embarrassing myself in front of any of my bosses.

The weekend comes and goes.

Candice invites me over to her apartment where I meet her boyfriend of two years called George.

I had awed at them because honestly they were so cute with each other, the way George had doted over Candice and kept asking her if she needed anything and then me, not that I minded or anything.

I didn't have a lot of experience with relationships, just the one proper boyfriend in college and well that was that.

I wasn't really looking for anything now, maybe when I had settled down with my job then I would start going towards the whole dating scene but one day I knew I wanted what Candice and George had.

Sunday consisted of me cleaning up my apartment and adding a few other bits and pieces of decoration that I had bought from a mini shopping spree the day before with Candice.

My apartment was fully furnished and everything had settled into place. I was proud of how well my apartment looked.

Stylish and modern but with a perfect blend of that homey comfort everyone seeked.

After that I had decided to call my parents whom I hadn't talked to in quite a while.

In all honesty, I had dreaded the talk that was coming.

I mean I hadn't called my mother in almost an entire month with everything that had been going on then.

And now that everything had settled down and all that drama was over with I knew I had to finally call my parents. It wasn't fair on them.

But to say I was worried was an understatement.

No one and I mean no one, ignores my mother for that long without facing her fury.

Surprisingly the call had gone by without a hitch but that made me feel even more guilty as mum had crossed the line of anger and was more worried than anything else.

I never told her of how or why I got fired from my previous job but just told her that I was now working at the famous Alexander & Co.

She was incredibly surprised that I had gotten the job and teased me over how I had managed to get it with my 'smarts'.

My mother was always like that, teasing and joking around but getting serious when needed so I wasn't surprised when she started scolding me like a little child for not knowing better to call her and dad whenever I was in trouble or needed something.

Taking the verbal beating from her, we both said goodbyes and a weight, that I hadn't realized was there, was lifted from my shoulders.

******

Nothing good could last for long.

I was learning this the hard way.

Time and time again.

So in the same fashion that had now become my daily routine every day since I started this job, I awoke bright and early on Monday morning.

Stretching and groaning I lay in bed for a whole ten minutes before I quickly get up and start rushing around the room like a maniac as I realize that the ten minutes had turned into twenty.

I may or may not have fallen asleep again.

By the time I get ready I'm running late so I decide to skip breakfast for now and get something at the coffee shop across the road from where I work.

*******

Rushing into the building but being aware of my surroundings this time, I manage to make it just in time to the office without being considered late.

Huffing out of breath I manage a quick hello to Candice as I quickly place her coffee down beside her as well as my own handbag and cup and rush into Jeff's office.

"Good morning Jeff" I say pleasantly.

"Sorry I was a bit late, it won't happe-" immediately I snap my mouth shut.

Sitting behind his office desk was Jeff with a somber look on his face as well as worry yet a hint of amusement displayed in his eyes.

Remember how I said nothing good lasts for long?

Well that includes my good mood as well.

Leaning against the desk, looking all smug and irritatingly good looking with his possibly custom made suit fitting him perfectly in all the right places and his long legs crossed at his ankles was none other than Mr. Alexander James.

That usual smirk was increasingly worrying this time than it was annoying because I knew that look was pure bad luck for who it was directed at.

And right now it had a flashing neon light pointed right at my forehead.

Gulping once then twice, I look from Jeff to Alexander.

Keeping a calm and composed look on my face even though I felt nothing but that on the inside. I ask in a small timid voice

"Mr. Alexander, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

I had a distinct feeling he was here for me.

The broadening of his smirk proved me right.

"Well Ms. Davis" he says almost mockingly "Remember when I said I would deal with you later? Well this is me dealing, with you, right now".

Gulping so loud I'm sure you could hear it around the room I just blink back stupidly at him, waiting for him to continue.

Instead of Alexander, Jeff speaks up, almost nervously.

"Nora dear, Mr. Alexander has found it in his best interest for you to no longer work with me".

"What? But I just got this job. I need this job. You can't just fire me without any reason" I say, not caring how desperate I sound.

How could Alexander do something like that?

All I did was spill coffee on him.

Granted that shirt probably cost more than my entire months salary but still he couldn't be that cruel could he?

"You never let Jeff here finish" says Alexander almost sardonically.

"You will not be working for Mr. Stevens anymore Ms. Davis because instead you will be working for me. As my personal assistant or secretary. What ever you want to call it".

"Wait what?" I say astounded.

Oh god, I'd rather be fired than work for him.

Candice told me of what being his secretary entailed and never in a million years would I do anything of the sorts. Least of all with him.

"You heard right Ms. Davis. You will be working for me. Effective immediately".

Getting up from his leaning position against the desk he motions me with him as he walks towards the door.

"Come along Nora. We have a busy day ahead of us".

With that he pulls me after him not even letting me say goodbye to Jeff nor Candice.
