《Against the Gods》23. Red Flowers

^^ Eve 16 years old

It has been six beautiful years since I debuted. I've hardly had contact with any male leads (except Finn). Of course I see the princes during formal events where I have to attend, but mostly I stay in the "comfort" of Callisto castle. Luckily I haven't met any of the other male leads though!

Still, I'm worried all of this could change next week when I have to go to the Royal Academy. That's when the real story takes place.

Anyway, my first plan was to not go to the academy, but my lovely family wouldn't have that. My mother hasn't let me drink blood for four days already as punishment. I know that if I continue to refuse her, the punishment will just get harsher.

My mother has locked my in a cell with a thick iron door, a small bed, and a very small window that allows a small amount of light to come through. Nobody is allowed to enter, because I know that I'd be overtaken by bloodlust if they did.

I can't just break the door down and leave though because my mom has installed vents in the ceiling to release silver laced air with magic every hour. It keeps me weak so I can't break out of here and also increases my bloodlust. To make it worse, every time I inhale it feels like I'm breathing in needles.

I know Finn and Nyx want to get me out of here, but they know they can't because whatever punishment I'd get next would be much harsher, so all they can do is worry about me.

I have a massive headache and I feel incredibly weak. There's also a cold, icy feeling that just won't go away as if my whole body has been robbed of warmth. By tomorrow, I'll most likely start hallucinating, so I need to come up with a plan while I'm still mostly sane.

I think I'll have to give in, and go to the academy. I need to get out of the Callisto estate so I don't continue to get punished like this. No doubt this punishment will be like heaven compared to what I'll receive if I don't get into the academy.

Wait a minute! There's a way out!

The main characters all go to the elite class of the academy because of how OP they are. All I have to do is make sure I get into the normal class.

My parents will still be angry but it will be fine because I know they will still send me to the academy, so I won't have to deal with them for long. The academy also has the best magicians and magical texts in the world so if I want to find a way back home that's my best bet. I just need to find some magic that can either kill a god or teleport me back to Earth so I can save my sister.

Easier said than done. At least the one benefit of being Eve in this life is that being a rich, powerful noble can certainly give you access to stuff, so my chances of finding this magic might not be totally impossible.

Ugh, now I have to wait two more days till my mom visits me again, and I'll finally be free once I give in to her demands.

Eventually I fall asleep, I feel so weak anyway that's it's not hard to do.

I'm in a room filled with red flowers.

There are floating lanterns illuminating the room. The floor is made of black marble and there are black marble columns lining the room.

Someone's hand closes around my wrist, and suddenly a wine glass is brought to my lips. It's filled with a sweet smelling, golden liquid.

For some reason I'm scared to drink it, but I do it anyway. Nothing is making sense.

I think I'm dancing with somebody now, but I can't make out who. Their face is clouded in the dream. Finally I catch a glimpse of them, but it's still blurry.

All I can make out is a pair of golden eyes.

I wake up in a cold sweat. What in the world was that dream?

Golden eyes... I'd know them anywhere. I've never met anyone with eyes that golden except for Hal. That ass of a god.

It must be the bloodlust, making me crave blood. His is one of the most irresistible blood I've ever encountered. The other person would be Nyx. I figure it's because they are immortal, so it makes me crave their's more. However, I hate drinking their blood because it makes me intoxicated.

The dream is probably nothing, but for some reason it makes me feel uneasy. I sigh as the vent releases another dose of silver laced air.

Damnit! I punch a wall. Nyx lets out a sigh, and turns to look at me.

"You know we can't do anything. It would just make it worse," he says.

I growl, "SO WHAT?!?! WE JUST DO NOTHING THEN???" I shout.

"Yes, she is strong enough to withstand this. She wouldn't want us doing anything," he responds. Ugh, this bastard always pisses me off with his above it act all the time.

"That's bullsh*t! You know if you actually cared about her then you'd be trying to help her like me!" I retort.

A murderous look suddenly crosses his face. I swear the room increases ten degrees in temperature. Before I can blink, he grabs me by my collar.

"You think I don't care?" he asks, his eyes clouded with emotion, "Of course I care... If it was up to me, I'd murder everyone in this whole mansion!"

He releases me, and I fall onto the ground.

He continues, more to himself than to me, "But she wouldn't like that. I've asked her before why she endures this, and doesn't just run away. She says she can't yet, that she needs to find some magical thing before she runs. I can't understand her. She never tells me anything."

I get up, "Yeah, whatever. Do what you want. I can't bear seeing her suffering anymore. I'm going to do something about it," I say.

I walk out of the room, and go to the old hag's bedchambers. The duchess hasn't come back yet. Whatever, it's better this way.

I quickly pick her lock and sneak inside.

Eventually the duchess comes back. Before she can blink I have a knife to her throat.

"I wonder what would happen if I just slit your neck. I think your blood would look so pretty pouring out of your throat," I say smiling.

She chuckles, "I guess you're showing your true colors today. Usually you act like such a little brat with my daughter," she sneers.

Her hand closes around my wrist, breaking it with a sickening crunch. I drop the knife.

Her hand closes around my throat, "I guess you're still a little brat either way. Just a stupid child that doesn't know his place. You want her to stop being starved of blood?" she asks.

"Yes..." I rasp out.

"Fine, I'll grant your wish," she replies. She grabs onto my broken wrist, so I try to mind control her until I realize she somehow put a magic canceller bracelet on my wrist!

I'm so stupid! I should have started with mind control!

She drags me throughout the castle, still holding my broken wrist which is in excruciating pain.

We finally get to the cell where Eve is being held. She releases me and I collapse on the ground.

I see her opening the door.

My heart quickens as I see Eve laying on the ground. She looks incredibly pale. Her eyes are closed and her beautiful silver hair looks like rivers spread out on the floor. She sits up, and opens her ruby eyes.

She meets my eyes, and sends me a confused, worried look.

"You're little dog decided to attack me to force me to free you from your punishment," the duchess says. A look of horror crosses over Eve's face.

"Please mother, please don't do anything. Double my punishment! Just don't do anything to him!" Eve cries out. She gets on her knees and begs, tears falling down her face.

"Don't worry, I'm only giving him what he asked for," she smirks. She grabs my broken wrist again and bites into my neck.

Blood flows from the bite marks from her fangs on my neck, seeping into my white shirt.

"Here, now she has blood. Just like you wanted," she says.

She throws me into the cell. Eve gets up and tries to run out, but the duchess is too fast, and locks the door on her.
