《The Sun Met The Deep End (Vegas Pete)》CHAPTER 9 {Who's side}

I heard my door slowly open revealing Pete who was dressed in his black suit with his hair a bit messed up.

He looked quite handsome for a matter of fact.

"Pete where were you?"

I've been planning on how to ask Pete on his idea about the man that he could possibly know without throwing myself off the edge.

Pete looked at me for a few seconds. Those eyes had a strong grip.

"Marcau needed some company.

Is there anything you need?" He replied.

Without wanting to admit it i was nervous.

I let out a sigh.

"We need to talk."

By the expression he was making I could tell that Pete was confused, his eyes were still looking innocently at me.

Sh*t.

"To start off this conversation of ours..."

I stood up and made my way to where he was standing.

Each step made me feel in somewhat more nervous?

I didn't know why my heart kept acting up this way but it didn't matter.

Now facing him

"Why didn't you tell me about the shooting on the night i got drunk?"

I can see how stunned he was yet he hid it.

Trying to read him his expression aswell as his eyes gave me no response. When he looks confused or happy or upset his eyes always have a spark to them that stop you from seeing what's hiding behind that spark.

"You were sober?" Pete asked frowning at me.

"No, But that wasn't my damn question."

My patience was running out fast.

Was Pete on their side?

Is Pete possibly working with him? But if that was true Pete wouldn't of saved me whatsoever.

"I don't need to explain that to you." Pete replied.

An angry expression fell on my face.

Does he find this amusing?

i gripped him by his collar bringing his face closer to mine as we both stared even more at each other.

We stayed silent as he showed no sign of fear. I wanted him to speak or say something but he didn't utter a word.

I hated how his eyes spoke to me.

They always examined my face.

Suddenly everything around us stopped and i hated it even more.

I hated him

I hate how comfortable we are with each other...

Most importantly i hated the way i became comfortable with him...

His eyes traveling around my face and suddenly drop to my lips which made my heartbeat stop. I didn't like anyone close to me this way and certainly not Pete.

"Damn you Pete."

I pushed him seeing him fix his suit as i set some distance between us.

"Moving on. I need your help with something... or can i say someone."

"What's this all about?" Pete asked me uninterested and ready to decline my request.

"The man that started the shooting at the funeral, Do you know him?"

"No, do you?" He asked.

Is he lying to me? I'm not as big of an idiot as he is.

"No.

That's why i needed to talk to you,

I have a plan on catching him and getting information from him with you,

His name is Jayon i heard that he lives down the street and works in a small bakery."

Pete's eyes widened when he heard my last few words.

I wasn't sure if he would help me or not.

I also heard that the man has contacts with Pete's grandmother and that Pete goes down each week to grab some food that his grandmother usually sends over.

"Are you planning on killing him!?" Pete asked looking worried.

So he does know him.. i smirked.

Damn pete i guess your scared of not eating your grandma's food anymore.

I grabbed a few documents with the information of the man handing it to Pete.

"Not if you help me.

I need to know why he did it the day i got drunk aswell as for the reason behind it, And if he was playing part of the murder of my father the night he was shot." I said now making eye contact with Pete.

"So you knew all along?"

I knew that the main family weren't the ones that killed my father that day...

It was someone, one of the guests who possibly could be this man or another one of his sidekicks.

And Pete helped me that day to avoid me getting shot aswell.

I've started seeing Pete differently ever since i've found out he had saved my life twice without letting me know.

He does his job so well that sometimes i forget he's just doing his job.

"If we get him to speak he'll lead us to the next suspects so we'll find out the truth sooner or later" I said calmly trying to convince Pete.

I'll be leaving back to the minor family's house in 3 days, By then i want us to get the maximum of information about the murder plan and suspects.

"In exactly three days you won't have to worry about being my bodyguard anymore, you wouldn't have to speak to me ever again."

Unfortunately that was true.

Why did my heart slightly ache when i said that.

We had our bad moments like everyone but we had a great bond.

I felt that Pete slightly noticed my mood change.

"And what do i get?" He said smiling sarcastically at me trying to lighten up the atmosphere.

I walked over to him again but this time he smiled at my approach.

Bringing my hand up and fixing his hair while we made eye contact.

I messed up his hair

"I'll get you a raise"

"Are you fvcking with me? Deal" Pete replied excitedly but then switched his mood.

"Sh*t i just did my hair" he whispered to himself glaring at me.

"Next time come by again and I'll make it even messier" i winked at him.

He rolled his eyes and walked out.

Now in me and porsche room i thought about what i'd been talking about with Vegas.

Sh*t pete!?

Why did i decide to agree to that idiot's request?

Well i actually really needed that raise for a long free vacation.

It suddenly hit me..

The thought of us becoming strangers when he leaves felt a bit sad. I have to admit that jerk was fun, A lot happened with him being around, More than my usual missions on a week.

I hate goodbyes, You'd still be thinking about where that person might be in this point of life.

Whether they are dead or alive you won't know it. That's what moving on from people is like.

Never forgetting them but meeting new people who'll lead you to others paths.

Sh*t Pete it isn't that deep.

I mentally face palmed myself.

It was never this deep to me but it was like the old days..

Well most precisely ever since my parents left me at my grandmother's and never came back looking for me.

I guess my parents both decided to get milk this time..

It makes me wonder if they ever tried looking for me or ever had the thought of me wanting milk for my cereal.

Getting this job as a bodyguard showed me to never let any personal emotions be revealed to anyone or else you'd be a complete emotional sh*t.

Stay put and smile so everyone wouldn't be bothered by such a sentimental person.

I used to stay up on my darkest days just to hold myself till the sunrise.

Vegas doesn't mean that much to me but the time we spent together wasn't just 'nothing'.

Someone suddenly waved a hand infront of my face.

"Pete? Are you okay man?" Porsche asked worriedly kneeling down now facing me.

I pushed all my thoughts away and focused on Porsche.

"Oh yeah! Sorry i was just zoning out." I laughed and so did he.

"You've got plans for the rest of the day?" Porsche asked.

I didn't know what to do with myself, i needed some time to just think.

Why am i so selfish?

"No not at all, do you want to go hangout at the Casino?" I proposed without thinking of the consequences.

Why did i say that.

"Damn Pete now your speaking my language!" Porsche replied rushing towards the dorms phone to call Kinn.

I looked down trying to collect myself again and gain energy to spend the rest of the night partying and stop bothering myself with these disturbing thoughts.

We then both got ready to go.

○At Midnight○

As i was working on more documents

I received a call from Kinn.

I was still organising a plan for me and Pete .

Ring ring

-"What?"

-"Vegas we're at the Casino. By we i mean Porsche Pete and myself. If your so busy don't bother coming."

I heard his laugh through the phone.

-"Stop wasting my time."

-"Oh and there's someone here to see you,

He's now chatting with Pete about i don't know what."

Is it possibly Jayon? Pete hold it together you rat.

-"Keep an eye on Pete, Tell them i'll be right there"

-end of phone call-

I quickly stood up and ran to my closet taking out a random dark grey pants aswell as a black sweater before brushing my hair back as strings fell onto my face i wasted no time and headed downstairs to get into my car.

○At the casino○

I barged in from the tall black doors.

I felt all eyes on me but i had more important things to worry about.

Finally spotting Kinn's table i took big steps towards them.

"Well look who it is" i said making eye contact with Kinn smirking.

"The better version of the minor family himself" He replied confidently.

Bastard.

I then greeted Porsche and saw a sleeping figure lying next to him having his head layed down on a pillow on one the chairs and strings of his hair covering his face.

I hope that isn't who i think it is.

"Who the hell is that?" I asked.

"Pete, I don't know what's on with him today but that guy sure got him hyped up, anyways" porsche continued speaking but i couldn't get my eyes off Pete.

Is he bullsh**ting with me right now?

Pete you better be joking.

I went over and sat next to him.

Remembering what Kinn had said to me on the call.

"So who's here to meet me?"

Kinn's face was too focused on Porsche but calmy replied to me.

"Uh he already met Pete and had a drink together and he then disappeared i'm not sure where?"

Sh*t Pete.

I looked down at him, he was completely wasted. That bastard must've gotten him so drunk trying to get Pete to speak and i can't believe Pete was so easy to give in.

I didn't want to spend another minute here anymore.

"Thanks for the invite but i'll have to get going, i have a lot of minor family missions to actually do" i said smirking at Kinn.

Tapping Pete's shoulder so he can wake up he slowly opened his eyes who locked themselves with mine.

"Vegas?" Pete whispered.

Gently lifting him up while holding him by his small yet muscular waist while he put his other hand on my shoulder for support.

Porsche then stopped me by holding my wrist

"I'll take Pete home don't worry about it"

Without thinking I pushed his hand away

"He'll be a handful it's alright"

"Suits you" porsche replied returning his gaze back to Kinn as they continued chatting.

I had to get both me and Pete out of here, Pacing my way to the door someone called out for me

"Hey Vegas, it's been a while" a girl winked at me

"Layla?" I couldn't believe my eyes. The cheater i had a dated back in middle school was standing right infront of me.

"Glad you recognised me bae, Who's that?" She asked pointing to Pete who was struggling to stay awake.

Why is she here?

"He's fine as hell" She added smirking trying to stroke his cheeks.

Upon hearing that my grip on Pete's waist tightened.

"He's my bodyguard" i said letting her know he isn't just some random guy looking for chicks.

I don't think Pete would be interested in this stuff anyway? I'm saving his life while he's out here drunk.

"Mind if i borrow him? He's fit" she added.

"Borrow my a*s, He isn't an object."

Why was she suddenly interested in Pete like the man she dated isn't right infornt of her?

No wonder she cheated. I truly loved her.

She inched closer to my face

"How about i win you back" she said her lips curving up into a smirk.

As much as i have to admit i wanted it.

I wanted her.

But i couldn't.

"vegas- VEGAS!?" Pete suddenly jumped away from my arm taking a few steps back from me.

He must've sobered up a bit.

"What are you doing here?" He asked me looking completely stunned and confused.

"I'll explain later"

Layla then made her way up to Pete again

laying her dirty a*s fingers on his chest.

"Look what handsome man we have here"

He looked down at her with a disgusted expression but as soon as he saw me glaring at her he decided to play along.

"Hello princess" He replied smiling at her.

She blushed.. SHE BLUSHED? my blood was boiling for an unexplainable reason, I knew i was over her but

Was it because i was jealous?

Because he was flirting with her or because she was taking My bodyguard?

I kicked Pete's knee making him fall but i soon then held him.

"Oh i think Pete isn't feeling well, We'll get going" I said trying to get Pete away from that nasty thing.

"How about i get your mind somewhere else for the night?" She added twirling strings of her hair.

But soon her smile dropped when he said

"Sorry to disapoint but I've already got my mind on a certain someone for the night" He winked at her before turning to me and grabbing my wrist making his way towards the door.

He thought he did something i thought to myself as i rolled my eyes.

"Call me!" Layla yelled but we both ignored it.

Shut up.

I walked out the Casino holding Vegas's wrist.

Who was even was that girl?

I then turned to face Vegas who's gaze was on me. He came because he must've been worried, This man has his grip onto me.

"Vegas I'm sorry for worrying you" i said wiggling my eyebrows in amusement but then felt guilty as he had come just to help me get some safely.

"You dumb sh*t, I wasn't worried. I came because i heard Jayon was here" My light smile completely dropped.

"Seriously? Not even a bit care for your caretaker?" Words spitting out at him a bit angrily.

"yeah? Then care to tell me why you were drinking with Jayon after i clearly told you he was on our suspects list?"

I was beyond angry, Why the hell would i need to explain that to him! My life was none of his business.

"Uh hello!? I told you he is a family friend! I can't believe your suspecting him of such act?"

I know that Jayon would never do such thing and especially to anyone who he knows i'm working with.

I understand Vegas wants to solve this huge mystery on his side of view but he has to accept his father was going to die ot get killed sooner or later.

"B*tch you better be joking" Vegas spat out at me he eyed me from head to toe.

"Excuse you, Look Vegas i know your upset, But remember i agreed to help on your search i'd never let you or anyone else get hurt. We'll find out who the murder was, Even if it was Jayon you think i'd let him do something to you while i'm on duty?" I gave him a comforting smile.

Vegas was afraid, Afraid of dying and leaving Marcau all alone but i tried my best to tell him that I'd never let that happen.

His features slightly softened as he tried hiding it from me. A smile Creeped up on my face.

"I don't need a prince to save me" Vegas sighed as he smirked at me.

What's with the sudden mood swings i thought to myself.

"Well guess what? You need one now" i replied confidently.

He took a small step towards me

"Oh yeah?" He spoke with a flirty tone

I couldn't help but let out a small laugh as the gap between us became shut.

This isn't funny Pete!?

He lifted my chin up so he can have a clearer view of my face.

"I can see that big sword your holding down there" It took me a few seconds to understand.

I was shocked at his words when i understood what he said.

I pushed him away cringing at what had just happend.

It was nice the way we got along.

"Pervert" i murmured under my breath.

"To add on to that, you should avoid getting drunk while we're at it, Girls like the one you purposely flirted with can easily take advantage of you if your real prince wasn't there to save you." Vegas said giving me a worried look. I understood what he meant.

Prince? Where was his horse that could've easily gotten me home by now.

"By the way who was that girl?" I asked remembering the scene in the Casino.

"An old friend, You had your game on though" he smiled at me which made my heart feel a certain way.

I ignored it.

"She was trying to win you over, you think I'd let that slide?" I added smiling back at him.

What is happening..

Who would of known this jerk had his nice side all along?

"Not to sound dramatic and sh*t but sorry for shooting your shoulder that day, and for threatening you the other day , aswell as for the other aswell as for-" he suddenly apologised.

I didn't let him finished. His eyes gave away his sincerely saying those words to me.

"It's okay! I get it you were going through some rough stuff back then, Just hoping you wouldn't shoot me once again because you can't aim" I said raising my eyebrows, Suddenly we both broke out laughing.

Our laughs fading as our eyes met.

I hate him.

I hate myself.

It became silent.

This is awkward...

It has been 7 seconds but felt like 7 minutes.

I suddenly spoke again breaking the silence and putting a serious face.

"I spoke with Jayon about his business and the Bakery, He's getting quite a good number of customers recently, He even told me his step daughter came to visit him yesterday as he hasn't seen her in nearly 4 years"

"And where was she? All this time?" Vegas asked paying complete attention to my words.

"She was always here."

He didn't know? I thought they were friends?

I could tell by Vegas's expression that he began thinking right away for clues and more to add to his 'suspect' list.

Vegas don't do this to me.

"What's her name?" He suddenly asked

"I don't know but Ken might, He used to date her back then but broke up soon after" i blurted out without thinking.

Oh no.

To be continued...

I'm finally back home!

I can't wait to write longer chapters but i have to tell you all to prepare for the plot twists coming your way in the upcoming chapters!

We see the chapters getting more confusing as we read.

Pete and Vegas caring and slowly becoming possibly friends but not wanting to think much of it.

Sorry for any mistakes/faults!

How are you enjoying the story so far?

Is there any scenes you'd like to specifically see?

I'll try uploading probably twice a week if i can when i studies start again.

Enjoy♡
