《The Puppy Type (OHSHC)》13. Kyoya is Sick

A/N at the end please read!!

Kyoya's just the mean guy right? He doesn't actually do much. He just runs numbers and writes down the names of people that go to the club. He's easily replaceable.

Daichi wakes up with a bit of confusion. Kyoya underneath him is warm, and not the comforting kind. His breaths come out ragged, and the young boy doesn't like it. Surprised, Daichi reaches for the lamp on the nightstand and turns it on. Instantly, he sees Kyoya's flushed red face and nose.

Oh no... Kyoya is sick.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Daichi shows up at the host club only a little bit late that morning, but he isn't really all there. When he walks in, there are no girls, and Tamaki is the first to approach. He has a look of worry on his face.

"Daichi, is Kyoya coming?" he asks. Daichi shakes his head. "Well, why not? And why were you late? Why is your uniform all messed up? What's going on?"

Overwhelmed by all the questions, Daichi doesn't answer any of them. He just stares at Tamaki and stands still.

"Uh... boss, try asking a yes or no question," the twins say.

"Right. Is Kyoya working?" Daichi shakes his head. "No. Okay. Wait... he's not sick is he? Is he sick?" Daichi nods, and Tamaki's face falters. "Well that's terrible! What am I to do without mommy! My poor daughter has only one parent for today! And his poor guests won't get to enjoy him! We were supposed to work on a project for class! Oh this is just UNACCEPTABLE!"

Daichi looks at Tamaki, eyes wide as he keeps talking. Tamaki really needs Kyoya, huh? To be fair, Daichi needs him sometimes too. Then his eyes start to water. He needs Kyoya a lot actually. He's a puppy without an owner now. Then he starts crying.

Tamaki instantly shuts his mouth when he sees what's happening. He lowers his head and tries to get Daichi to look at him while the others crowd around too. "Hey, Daichi, it'll be all right. Kyoya will be healthy after a day of rest. In the mean time, we'll all do our best to take care of you. Okay?"

"We should fix his clothes first," the twins say. "We can do it."

The others back away as the twins button his coat, tie his shoes, tighten his belt, and tie his tie. Now he looks much better. "Excellent. Well, classes are almost starting. Hikaru, Kaoru, Haruhi... you all keep a close eye on him. Don't let anything go wrong. Kyoya's not here to comfort Daichi if he needs it."

Daichi's ears perk up when he hears that. No Kyoya for comfort. That's right. So Daichi better not mess up.

The four go to their class, which starts off well enough. Then the teacher asks the for last night's homework. Everyone gets it out of their bags, but Daichi is not having any luck. He can't find it. When the teacher calls his name out, the three other hosts can see the panic rising.

"Daichi, where is your assignment?" He doesn't sound angry at all. He actually speaks very calmly, but it doesn't matter to Daichi. He's afraid of messing up.

"I-I-I did — I did it-t. B-but left — I it left — left it — but left it h-home." The three can feel their hearts breaking for the poor boy. It's obvious he feels terrible about leaving it at home. Can the teacher just cut him some slack?

"Left it home? Hmm... Since your assignments are otherwise always on time, I'll let this one slide. Turn it in to me tomorrow before class starts, and I'll give you full credit."

The teacher moves on to teach the lesson, and Kaoru leans over. "See, Daichi? It's fine. Just get it in tomorrow, and it'll all be okay." Daichi nods, but Kaoru is sure he isn't entirely convinced.

Luckily, nothing else goes wrong in class. They're sure Daichi isn't paying attention, but he hasn't fallen asleep, which is good. Finally they make it to lunch. The four head to the cafeteria only to find the three other hosts waiting for them. Honey walks up to Daichi with a smile. "Hey, Chi-chan! Tama-chan said we should all have lunch together. That sounds fun, doesn't it?" Daichi nods.

Everyone orders their lunches except Daichi. They all sit down, and Haruhi is the one to notice. "Uh, guys, I think we forgot something."

Everyone looks to Daichi's place and sees, sure enough, he has no food. "But... I've never seen Daichi order lunch," Tamaki says. "Kyoya orders his own meal, and Daichi will eat little bits of that."

"Really? He only eats that much?" the twins ask. "That's really bad. You should be eating more, Daichi."

"But if Kyoya-senpai knows he only eats that much... then I guess we can't do anything about it," Haruhi finally says.

So Tamaki, who is sitting next to Daichi, pushes his tray in between the two of them. "Here. You can take whatever you want from mine, Daichi."

Mori, on the boy's other side, does the same. Soon everyone has their trays pushed just a little closer to Daichi in hopes that he'll eat more. But he doesn't take more than a few bites total.

They're all finished with their meals and taking them to the belt. As they're walking, Daichi notices a boy in line in front of them drop a fork. Quickly the puppy springs into action, picking up the fork for the other boy. He sets it on the kid's tray with a little smile. The other kid just scoffs and, just as Daichi's walking away, sticks his foot out. No one acts quick enough to keep Daichi from hitting the ground, but they notice the second he does.

His eyes water. He wants to cry. So badly he wants to. He's messed up again, and there's no Kyoya to tell him it'll be all right. So Daichi sniffs and stands up on his own, going back to the others. No one knows what to say, so they don't say anything.

Daichi really wishes they would say something.

After lunch is club period. There's no theme, which is good. But Daichi is left on his own to entertain his guests. He can hardly keep from falling apart when a girl asks, "My friend told me Kyoya's home sick. It must be hard to be without him all day."

The hosts all hear. They gasp in surprise, waiting and watching closelyto see if he'll break. It's fine if he does. It's been a long day, and they're all sure it's worse holding everything in. Instead, Daichi takes a deep breath. "S-senpai is — he is support — is my sup-support. But friends — now friends are doing — now are being m-my support."

The girls are all teary-eyed, and, while the hosts let out a sigh, they are touched. Are they really doing that much? They've been so busy they can't even tell.

Somehow, Daichi makes it through all the guests, and it's onto classes. There are only two left in the day, and they go by smoothly. Good thing too. The trio isn't too sure they could've prevented another problem. After school, the friends all say goodbye (as it is a Friday) and leave.

Daichi really wishes he isn't taking this long ride home all by himself.

A/N: I know I know. It got long. It's not over yet. The following chapter or two will finish out this arc and this story. I don't want to follow the whole season of the show as it'll get repetitive way too quickly with Daichi. And sorry I didn't post yesterday. I was at a Boxing Day Party. Please as always Lemme know what you thought. I've got a question actually? Do you think Daichi could go a whole day without seeing Kyoya? The full 24 hours? Let me know in the comments.

And thank you so much everyone who's been reading and voting. My numbers shot up recently, and it makes me so happy. It would make me even more happier to know more of what you guys think of it, the dynamic between Kyoya and Daichi, the style of writing, the dialogue, everything. Numbers make me happy yes, but communication makes me ecstatic.

See you later~~
