《The Puppy Type (OHSHC)》3. Beware the Shirtless Boys

"Wow, these cherry blossoms really are beautiful," says one of Daichi's guests. "It's a shame they're here for such a short time."
"You are absolutely right, mademoiselle," Kyoya says. He takes a branch in his hand, and it draws in the attention of the girls. "All beauty is fleeting. Yes, you'll never be able to see them this vibrant again. And that's why I've compiled this picture book that contains photos that capture the beauty of each passing day. Incidentally, I've prepared similar books of the other hosts as well. And if you ladies are interested in collecting all four of them, I'll discount the full set for you."
"I'll take them!"
"Me too, please!"
Just then Daichi walks over and taps Kyoya on the shoulder. His tie has come undone. Kyoya sighs, setting his wonderful picture books down. "Really now, Daichi. I know I tied this perfectly just this morning. How'd you manage to undo it?"
Daichi looks down in embarrassment. "I -- wanted -- I -- to t-tie like you but... I can't."
"Well of course. I do the things that you can't. That's why I'm here." Kyoya smiles lovingly at his partner. "But I am proud of you for trying."
Kyoya ties the ribbon while the girls nearby all stare on in tears at the sight.
The cheeriness quickly goes away when the host club remembers the physical exam.
It's Daichi who has the idea of just having a private exam since that's what he used to do when he was less confident. But now he has Kyoya and doesn't need to worry about other girls looking at him since he knows who he belongs to.
The day of the exam arrives, and the first years all travel to the infirmary room together.
"So, what do they do during physical exams here at Ouran, anyway?" asks Haruhi.
"It's no different than a physical exam you'd get at any other school," says Hikaru.
"Yeah, why would a physical exam be any different for us just because we're rich?" asks Kaoru.
''You're right. I didn't think about it that way," admits Haruhi.

The doors to the room open, and the line of doctors and nurses appears.
"Welcome, students."
"W-what is all this?"
"Just another physical exam."
"The usual. Right, Daichi?"
Daichi nods. "Usual."
A nurse comes and leads the Hitachiin brothers away to have their height measured. Once they're gone, Haruhi only has a moment left with Daichi before another nurse walks over.
"Mr. Akiyama, if you'll follow me this way. Mr. Ootori is waiting for you."
Daichi nods. "Wait for senpai," he says to Haruhi.
Haruhi looks confused. "Senpai? But who--- that could be anybody."
Daichi follows the nurse but lags a little behind. As he's walking, he bumps into some scruffy doctor that doesn't seem to belong. "Sorry," the doctor says looking panicked.
Daichi nods. "Sir."
The man then runs off, and Daichi instantly knows something's up. But he follows his nurse anyway to where Kyoya is waiting. His focus quickly shifts back to the task at hand. "Please take your shirt off so we can take your measurements," the nurse says. "You can go behind this--"
Daichi interrupts by taking his top off, maintaining eye contact with Kyoya the whole time. The older boy smirks, taking his clothes. All Daichi has left on top is his collar. A doctor comes near and starts measuring around Daichi's waist. At least twenty girls watch closely with baited breath. The doctor smiles when he is done.
"This looks good, Mr. Akiyama. Why don't you step on this scale here to have your weight taken?"
Daichi glances at Kyoya nervously before doing as asked. He watches nervously as the doctor writes down the numbers. "This is wonderful, Mr. Akiyama! You're 53.5 kilograms. You've gained four kilograms since last year!"
Daichi steps off the scale as the girls, doctors, and nurses all around clap for him. He goes to Kyoya and is instantly swept into a hug. "Good job," Kyoya whispers with a grin. "You're one step closer to being healthy."
Just then Daichi hears a girl scream. The cheering stops and he runs as fast as possible to the sound, Kyoya following after. There's a girl sitting on the ground, nurses and classmates gathered around.

"I'm telling the truth!" she cries. "One of the doctors grabbed me by my shoulder. He was trying to make a pass at me. I've never been so terrified."
In a second, Daichi has the other hosts minus Haruhi by his side.
"Wow, how scary."
"Do you think it was a pervert?"
Daichi's eyes widen. His breathing quickens. "Hey, what's going on with Daichi?" the twins ask.
"The guy," Daichi says. "the doctor guy -- he came -- doctor came -- ran -- guy -- doctor ran."
"What's he trying to say, Kyoya?" Tamaki asks.
Kyoya doesn't know. Then Daichi freezes. "Haruhi!"
He runs faster than he thinks his legs can carry him in the direction of the special boys' clinic. He bursts into the room and through the curtain. The second he sees that doctor, he growls like an animal and kicks at him, sending him straight into the wall. He gently pulls Haruhi back behind him, breathing heavily.
Soon the other members come in. The twins flank Haruhi.
Hikaru and Kaoru: One... Good looks that attract the public eye.
Daichi straightens himself up and moves to stand next to Kyoya, who drapes a coat over the younger.
Daichi: Two... More wealth...
Kyoya: ...than you could imagine.
Mori: Three, chivalry that would never be able to overlook...
Honey: ...the hideous wickedness of this world.
Tamaki: That's what makes up the Ouran host club.
Host club members: We're here! Watch out!
"Please don't hurt me," the man pleads. "Spare me my life... I'm a doctor. I have a small emergency medical clinic that I run in the next town over. My name is Yabu."
"Did he say his name is Yabu?" says Hikaru.
"That's crazy. What a terrible name for a doctor," adds Kaoru.
"Unless you're a quack."
"I know," the man continues. "I'm here because I was hoping to see my daughter. My wife left me last month and took my daughter with her. But I know that she attends school here."
"I don't mean to pry or anything. But why did your wife and daughter leave you?" asks Haruhi.
"Well, you see, she wasn't happy with me working for people for free. And that was it. They left me forever. I know I'm terrible at managing our money. And I can't say no to anybody. I don't blame them for being tired of constantly living in debt. But I wanted to see my daughter one more time, so I came here. After being pelted by rain and wandering the streets, I finally made it to your school. Once I entered, I was mistaken for a doctor here to examine students. I tried to ask a girl about my daughter, but the girl started screaming and before I knew it, there were all kinds of people chasing me!"
"That's so tragic!" Tamaki exclaims.
"Doctor Yabu, I think you may have the wrong place. Are you looking for Ourin public high school?" Kyoya asks.
"Yeah, that's right."
"I figured out that might be the case. This is Ouran Academy, a private institution. Your daughter doesn't go to school here," Kyoya tells him.
"Man, that's pretty sad," says Hikaru. "You don't even know what school your daughter goes to?"
"I bet your relationship is messed up because you don't pay attention to her, not because of some stupid debt."
"Wow, Kyo-chan, I'm impressed that you figured out he had the wrong school," Honey says.
"Well, there's no way the daughter of such a small time doctor would ever be able to get into Ouran academy."
"Kyoya, would you please find a map of all the public school in this area?" asks Tamaki. "I'd like to help this man find his daughter."
"Whatever you say."
And like that they send the doctor on his way.
As the others tease Tamaki, Kyoya drags Daichi to the side. "Are you all right, Daichi?" he asks softly. Daichi nods. "You're sure?" He nods, and Kyoya brings him to his chest. "Good. Well done for protecting Haruhi. Considering this and you've gained 4 kilograms... I think you've earned yourself a reward tonight."
Daichi looks up at his senpai with wide eyes. "Play time?"
Kyoya nods. "Yes, we'll play tonight."
