《Call Of Death》Chapter 75 : Safe or Save

It was a bit of a long drive before Cameron could reach his destination. Inside him, thoughts were building up in an unbelievable speed. Just thinking of the place is making him sick. All the memories he had in that place was not pleasant at all, it was a total nightmare. And after finding out the real reason behind Harold's decision to adopt him, Cameron doesn't wanna come back to that place anymore if possible, but thinking about Officer Devius Wayne Chad, Detective Kairo Sedis Parker and Gong Seuk Tae - he knew he had to. His fear is less important than those people's lives, especially when it's Devius who's at stake. Detective Cameron Lee is willing to do anything just to make sure that Devius got out of Red's claws.
It was a long time ago since he felt like he had a companion. The feeling of not being alone is very important to him especially because it's Devius who made him feel it. No matter what happens, he couldn't let anything bad to happen against the man he loves even if saving him means he has to give up his own life.
Cameron felt his phone vibrating inside his pocket and when he took it out, he saw that it was Harold who's calling. He wanted to ignore it but in the end, he answered the call with a sigh and put it in speaker mode so he could hear.
"Camz, where are you?" Harold asked, he sounded worried.
Detective Lee took a deep breath before answering. "I'm going to save, Devius. I won't just sit still and do nothing, dad."
"But you should have asked for some company. Where are you? I'm going there too."
"The orphanage where we met." Cameron simply answered.
Harold sighed on the other line. "Don't go in without me, I'm on my way." He said then he hung up.
Cameron glanced at the phone and then continued driving. He knew that his adopted father was worried but also, looking back at all the times that he spent with Harold was motivating him. Remembering and getting his memories back from the forgotten part of his childhood is making him want to do more than just wait for his superior's command.
"I won't repeat the same mistake again." He mumbled, remembering the kid who died from saving him in his childhood. He might not have seen nor could he remember his face from his memories, the fact that the kid sacrificed his life for him makes him guilty and greatful at the same time. "I might have failed to protect and save you before but I'll make sure that I won't do the same mistake again. I might not have been able to save you from being devoured by the monstrous fire back then, I will return the favor by making sure that Devius will not be harmed." He promised, gripping the steering wheel.

While driving, Detective Lee couldn't help but feel nervous and anxious at the same time. His palms were sweating and his body is a bit trembling. He remembered that it was so long time ago since he felt this way. He swallowed hard and stepped on the accelerator so speed up his pace. He wanted to get to the place as soon as possible to save the officer but also, he doesn't silently wished for the road to get longer and longer so he doesn't have to arrived at the place he called his second nightmare.
"I can't let my own feelings get over me. I must save Chad. I must save him and make sure that he wouldn't get hurt." He kept motivating himself. "Devius, please be safe until I come to you." Cameron pleaded while gripping tightly on the steering wheel.
After a few minutes, he was almost in his destination — the orphanage. His heart was pumping really hard it could break his ribs. Both the fear of that place and fear for Officer Chad, Detective Parker and Gong Seuk Tae's safety are making him lose his sanity. As he gets nearer and nearer to his destination, his hands started to tremble even more. He tried really hard to fight his own fear and he will never let it defeat him.
On the other hand, Red was sitting in front of Officer Devius Chad who was being fed by Ju Jin Su. They are both wearing a thing to cover their faces. Ju Jin Su was wearing a mask while Red was wearing a cloth to cover his face except for his eyes. Devius wasn't resisting because he knew he had to be very vigilant in order to escape that place.
"Officer, you should eat a lot so you can have your energy while waiting for your knight in shining armor to come and save you." Red teased, smirking under his cloth mask.
Devius was taken aback after hearing what Red said. He doesn't know that Red called Cameron and asked him to go there. Officer Chad trusts his partner. He know that he can handle Red when it comes to close fight but having the mysterious Ju Jin Su, he felt scared for the detective.
"Why did you call him here? What's your plan?" Devius asked but Red just teasingly giggled.
"My plan?" He acted like he was thinking then spoke again. "I don't have many plans, officer."
"I don't fucking believe you, Red. Tell me, why did you call him here?" Officer Chad asked again.
Red tilted his head, stood up and walked to the window. "Trust me, I don't have any plan. I just wanted to see if he's really going to save you because that little detective of yours? He's a damn coward." Red answered but there was a hint of sadness in his voice that didn't escape the officer's ear.

Ju Jin Su also stopped from what he's doing and turned to look at Red. He knows what is inside the guy's head but he just couldn't say anything. Red has been doing his best to hide the other side of him from the world especially to himself. Acting tough, getting angry, scolding and many other ways he does just so he would look tough. But now, Ju Jin Su could see through him. He's facing the other way but he knows that a tear was falling from his eyes even if he has the cloth to cover his face.
"What kind of game are you playing?" Devius furrowed his brows.
Red fixed his composure before turning around. "Safe or save." He said.
"What?" Devius looked confused.
"Safe or Save. It's for him to choose between those two. It's either safe or save." He repeated.
"What kind of nonsense is that? I know you're planning something sinister."
Red smiled. "He chose safe if he wouldn't come here. But if he comes, you're lucky for that will mean he chose save but I remember that someone like him doesn't know what the meaning of saving is." Red mumbled while looking out the window again.
"You don't know him at all."
"Really? I do, officer. I know him from the bottom to top. Your detective is nothing but a fucking coward who will always choose to keep himself safe than save anyone. I know him, officer."
Officer Chad went silent. He doesn't understand what Red means that he know Cameron from bottom to top. He turned to look at Ju Jin Su who was busy looking at Red while feeding him.
"I'm full." The officer said.
"I'll get you some water." Said Ju Jin Su and left the room.
Devius nodded and turned to Red again. "This place, what place is this? Why did you choose to take me here when it could be tracked down easily?" He asked.
"Oh, this place? It used to be an orphanage but it was closed down due to an anomaly done by the staffs." Red casually responded, like he's just talking to a friend.
Devius didn't expect him to answer and tell him that easily but maybe he did because it wasn't a very significant information. Or maybe Red had some other plans. He already told him about the victims and why he killed them but he still don't expect that Red would answer his questions that easy.
"What? You're surprised that I respond to your question easily?" Red asked as if he could read the officer's mind.
"Why did you brought me here instead of any other places?" He asked again.
Red walked towards him. "It's because I lived in this place in misery."
"What?"
"You will find out the real story behind everything once your detective is here... if he does come." Red stated while placing his hand inside his pocket.
"Why are you targeting Cai? Why him? What did he do that made you despise him like that? Why Lee Han Se?"
Red's face turned serious as he tightly clutched his hands inside his pocket. "First, I told you before already, it's not what he did, it's what he didn't do. Second, don't ever call him by that name again when you're in front of me. I hate hearing it. That name doesn't suit him and it will never suit him." He said in an angry voice.
Officer Chad furrowed his brows, trying to figure out the meaning behind Red's words. He looked straight at Red's eyes and he found it familiar. He doesn't know why but those eyes, they look so familiar he felt like he once stared at them.
"Do I know you?" He asked out of curiosity.
Red smirked behind the cover of his face. "Don't asked me that question, officer. You should asked that to your lover because I'm not sure if you really knew him." He gave a riddled answer.
"What do you mean? Why do you keep diverting the topic towards Cai?" Devius questioned.
Red leaned forward to the officer's face. "You'll know if he comes here to save you. Also, to answer your question, no. You don't know me at all, officer."
Devius was getting more and more confused. The familiar feeling he has towards Red and Ju Jin Su and everything was making him confused and curious. He wanted to asked again but before he could speak, Ju Jin Su burst inside the room.
"Jin Su-ya, what is it?" Red asked.
The man looked at him with worry in his eyes before muttering. "He's here, Hyeol... He came.
After hearing those words, both Red and Devius looked at each other. Officer Chad felt happy and worried at the same time but it's different from Red. Devius saw an extreme sadness and disappointment in his eyes but them it changed into anger. Devius was left confused. In Red's eyes, he saw that he there's a hint of hope but everything was being devoured by the flames in there.
"So he chose, save, huh?"
