《Call Of Death》Chapter 70 : If I Could Be

When Cameron arrived at the meeting place, Chief Simon quickly walked towards him to meet him. The word worried is all over her face. She looked stressed and her eyebrows were crumpled together. Harold and Isaac are also with her, she must called them too.
"Lee, where have you been? Why did you left the hospital?" She asked in a concerned voice.
"I'm sorry, Chief. I just needed some fresh air to clear my mind." Cameron responded.
"You know you needed some rest, son." Harold spoke.
Detective Lee slightly smiled. "I'm sorry, dad. I'm really sorry. But let's talk about it later, what happened to Parker?" He changed the topic.
Chief Simon sighed. "Come with me inside, let's talk there." She commanded and walked away, the men followed her.
They all sat down around the table. Everyone looked worried. They are all thinking of the same thing. Chief Simon stood up and paced around.
"Parker is missing, so is the kid—Gong Seuk Tae. The disappeared at the same time today, if I'm correct. Now, Officer Chad, Detective Parker and Gong Seuk Tae are missing. We only have on suspect in mind—the killer caller." She started speaking, explaining what is happening and enumerating their missing colleagues and the kid. "Our star witness—Michael—is safe so far and there were no suspicious activities around the safe house he was in."
"But, Sara, how sure are you that Detective Parker is missing?" Harold questioned.
Chief Simon took a deep breath and placed a paper on the table. "This note, it read 'See you soon, my best friend. I'll be waiting, Detective Lee.' That's why I'm so sure that it was the culprit who sent this and he has Parker, Chief Lee." She explained.
"You don't have to keep calling me Chief Lee, Sara. I'm not your superior anymore. Just call me Harry." Harold awkwardly smiled.
"I'm sorry, Chief—I mean, Harry." She smiled back.
"What about Seuk Tae, how did he went missing when we just met him earlier?" Isaac questioned, confused.
"Officer Yussaf went to the headquarters and told me that Seuk Tae was abducted at the safe house. Igan was knocked unconscious." Cameron answered.
"Son, this Killer Caller, do you know why he's doing this? It's not just a simple and typically serial murder case, something is very wrong." Harold turned to Detective Lee.
Cameron shook his head. "It's not, dad. It's not a simple serial killing. The culprit, Red, he's doing this because of me." He answered.
Everyone looked confused with what Cameron had said. He leaned on the chair and sighed, he expression look so stressed.
"What do you mean, Cameron?" Chief Simon asked.
"He said I took something from him. He's doing everything because of me. He wanted to take back what was supposed to be his. I don't know what he meant but I have this feeling that he is a part of my past." Detective Lee said in a long litany.
Harold didn't speak but he had something in his mind. He doesn't know why but something from his case from the past suddenly came into his mind. Even if he disappeared for a long time, even if he hid himself from everyone for a long time, he never left Cameron's side. He always visit his adopted son and check on him. He follows him everywhere he goes, that's why he never lose track on what Cameron is doing. Harold knew about the case they are investigating right now. He knew what had been happening. Harold also know that his son will be in danger because of his case but little did he know that his theory was right, the culprit behind the case is related to what happened in the past.

As he patched everything, piece by piece, he confirmed it. The fire, the kids, the bar and Cameron. But the only question he has in mind right now is, who is the person behind the murder? What is his relationship to Cameron? What is his connection from the past?
Harold stood up, making everyone look at him. "I have to go somewhere." He said.
"Where are you going, dad?" Cameron asked.
Harold smiled and patted Cameron's shoulder. "I'll be back quickly. For now, you guys should stay together. Go to Sara's house, I'll meet you there."
After saying that, Harold left. Detective Lee, Chief Simon and Officer Chase just looked at each other and shrugged. They have no idea of what Harold is up to.
On the other hand, Ju Jin Su was staring at Red while he was sleeping on the wooden chair. He drunk too much alcohol that he eventually passed out. He looks so peaceful when he's asleep. There's no trace of anger, sadness, vengeance and remorse on his handsome face. That's the only time when his face could be seen calm and peaceful. Ju Jin Su slowly reached his hand to touch the guy's face. A smile curved on his lips but in his heart, he felt the sadness. He wanted to free Red from everything but he knows that Red will always be a prison from his past. No matter how hard Ju Jin Su try to help him escape, he would never succeed because Red already chose to face it through revenge.
When he turned to look at his hands, he saw those burnt marks that Red was always trying to hide, which was also the hardest one to do. For he could hide the burnt marks on his skin but he could never hide the scars in his heart. He gently stroke the scars and held his hand. When he felt Red squeezing his hand, he knows that he was dreaming again.
"I wish I could do something to free you from those nightmares, Hyeol. I wish I arrived in your life earlier, so I could have had the chance to save you. I wish you never had to suffer all the pain you've been through." Ju Jin Su caressed his face, his eyes filled with sadness.
Red's expression changed from calm to distressed. He furrowed his brows and some drop of sweat started to appear on his forehead. Jin Su gently leaned forward and kissed him on the forehead, hoping that it would help him from the nightmares. He felt Red's gripped slightly loosen up. Then Red slowly opened his eyes and met Ju Jin Su's. He was still half asleep and the effect of liquor in his system was still strong that he could only see a blur reflection of Ju Jin Su.
"What are you doing?" Red asked in a whisper.
"I'm kissing away all your bad dreams, Hyeol. I am chasing them away so they won't bother you anymore." He answered, gently caressing Red's face.
The latter just sleepily looked at him. "Can you really do that? Can you chase them away forever? If so, please do. I've been so tormented, Jin Su-ya. I'm so tired." A tear dropped from Red's eyes which made Ju Jin Su's heart break.

He felt like he's going to cry too. "Hyeol..." He mumbled.
"I've been haunted by the past ever since I opened my eyes after that tragedy. I wanted to escape but the more I run away from it, the more it kept chasing me. I really wanted to run away but no one's holding my hands anymore. No one was there to run away with me anymore, Jin Su." Maybe it's because of the alcohol in his system but Red showed his vulnerable side to Ju Jin Su.
"Then hold my hand and let's escape together. I'll always stay by your side, I'll never leave you, Hyeol. I won't ever leave you just like Lee Han Se did. I'll always be here." Ju Jin Su said in the most loving and convincing voice he had.
Red chuckled. "Can I... still trust those words of promises? Can I still believe when you said you would never leave me? Can I trust you when you said you'll stay by my side and that you will run away with me? Tell me, Jin Su... can I?" The pain in Red's voice while asking those questions were like a hand, squeezing Ju Jin Su's heart tightly.
But he has no idea, Red was only looking at his face but he wasn't seeing him. In Red's eyes, he was someone he's been longing to see for such a long time. The face he is seeing is someone he wanted to hugged but also the person he wanted to stay away from.
"I promise, I'll never leave you, Hyeol. You can trust my words because no matter what happen, I'll stay by your side even if I have to give up my life." Jin Su sincerely uttered.
"It amazed me how you can still say all those words. When you left me and my brother behind, did you know how much that broke me? When I saw my brother die in front of me, did you know how much that hurt? I hate you but why can't I hurt you? I despise you but am I still yearning for you? Why do I still have you in my mind? Why do I still like you when you're the one who took my brother away from me?" When Red mustered those questions, Ju Jin Su realized he wasn't talking about him.
Jin Su smiled bitterly. "You said you despise him, yet you're still thinking about him every time. You have you're angry but your heart still decides for you." He said as he felt the pain in his heart.
Red closed his eyes and mumbled. "It's because even if I hate to admit, his memories still makes me happy and angry at the same time. The thought of him hurts but it also made me smile."
"I wish I was the one who can make you happy. I wish I could be the person who can make you forget all the vengeance and hatred. If I could be that person, even if I have to exchange my life, I'll be glad. I wish I could free you from the past. If I could be that person, I'll be glad." Ju Jin Su said wholeheartedly but Red wasn't able to hear it anymore as he was already back in sleep.
When Jin Su saw that, he stood up and took a deep breath. He looked outside and then up into the sky. There were millions of stars seen in the vast sky. It was dark but the twinkling sight of those little diamonds are making it look beautiful. Despite the gorgeous scenery, Ju Jin Su could feel a massive space inside his heart and he already knew why.
He's been with Red ever since the day he found him. He treats Red as his brother and could be more than that but for Ju Jin Su, he never felt that he exceeded being just a friend for Red. That's because Red only has one man inside his heart... Lee Jin Hong. He closed his eyes and breath in the cold air. He stayed like that for some time before he placed a kiss on Red's forehead and went out of the room. But instead of going to another room and take some rest, he went straight to the room where Officer Devius Chad was detained.
The officer was just sitting straight without any motion. He doesn't seem to be afraid nor nervous. Ju Jin Su walked towards him and sat on the old wooden chair near him.
"Are you awake?" Ju Jin Su asked, Devius turned his head to the direction of his voice, indicating that he is awake. "You can't fall asleep?"
"How can I fall asleep if it's so uncomfortable? I was abducted and being held captive." He casually said.
Ju Jin Su cracked a laugh. "Do you want me to untie you or take off your blindfold? Will it make you comfortable?" He asked.
"Would you really do that?" The latter asked too, furrowing his eyebrows.
Ju Jin Su chuckled. He stood up and went to get the masked hanged on the wall. It was just a simple mask, unlike Red's. He used it to cover his face and went back to Officer Chad. He stared at the police officer before starting to remove his blindfold.

Only Villains Do That
While waiting on an Akihabara train platform one day, ordinary high schooler Yoshi Shinonome was suddenly plucked from his normal life in Japan and whisked away by a beautiful goddess to Ephemera, a world of magic and adventure, to serve as her Hero and drive back the evil Dark Lord. This is not his story. Standing nearby at the moment Yoshi was isekai'd was a man named Seiji - a rude, cranky, misanthropic musician who was not at all pleased to find himself also snatched up and transported to Ephemera by the goddess's wicked sister, Virya. According to this self-proclaimed Goddess of Evil, the whole fantasy adventure thing was a game she and her sister played to stave off the boredom of immortality, and since the good goddess, Sanora, had picked her Hero...well, Virya needed a Dark Lord. A grown man with his own career and ambitions, Seiji has no interest in playing. Unfortunately for him, the call to adventure was not a request. Now, he must conquer Ephemera and defeat the Hero...or Virya promises to make him beg for the release of death before granting it. Playing along for his own survival, Seiji nonetheless is under no illusions who his true enemy is, and it's not the naive young would-be Hero from his own world. Placed in an impossible position, Seiji must make enough progress toward world domination to keep his sadistic patron goddess off his back, but not so much that he can't strike an accord with the forces of Good and convince the Hero Yoshi that it's the goddesses who are their mutual enemy. Forced to embrace Evil without being too evil, Seiji walks the razor's edge, building his forces and biding his time till he can get revenge on the goddesses and be free of them, his only certainty that he will not be getting out of this with his hands clean. A Dark Lord's gotta do what a Dark Lord's gotta do. Updates Tuesday and Friday. Most Patreon tiers get to read one chapter in advance of the public release!
