《Call Of Death》Chapter 68 : Like A Shadow

Red was sitting on the wooden chair, holding a can of beer in his right hand while the other was holding a knife. He's knuckles are turning white because of how tight he was holding the things in his hands. His clutching his jaws and gritting his teeth. He watched Detective Lee passed out at that moment because of what he did. He kept replaying the video but he could never get satisfied. He spent a lot of time in creating a perfect plan but he couldn't understand why he felt dissatisfied. He was feeling annoyed because he has a chance to kill him but he couldn't do it. He had a chance to get his revenge but he couldn't even take one step towards him.
"Damn it, Red! You're an idiot!" He cursed himself, gulping on the beer.
"Hyeol, do you know how dangerous that move was? What if you didn't get to leave on time, huh? Why are you always risking your everything for this? You could have just asked me to do it." Ju Jin Su said as he walked inside the room where Red was sitting.
"Tone down, somebody might hear you." Red said without moving.
Ju Jin Su sighed. "If you wanted to kill him, why don't you just used a sniper and shot him on the head?" He sounded a bit sarcastic.
"That's what I wanted to do, Jin Su. That's what I'm supposed to do. Kill him because he's the reason why I have to live like this but you know what annoyed me the most?" The can of beer in his hand exploded due to how tightly he was gripping on it. Red looked at Ju Jin Su with a serious and angry face. "It's the fact that he was and still is the only person who can make me both weak and strong. I wanted to hurt him so bad but I couldn't even bear to take one step closer even if he was already unconsciously lying on the ground! Even if I was there when he fainted, even if I was holding a knife, will I be able to kill him? I hate myself because when I saw him lose consciousness, no matter how much I deny it, I felt worried." Red exclaimed and threw the can on the floor.
"Hyeol..."
"I planned everything almost all my life, Jin Su. Every night before I fall asleep I kept telling myself that I will avenge myself and my brother." A drop of tear fell from his eyes.
Ju Jin Su sighed and walked towards him, he sat down beside Red and patted his shoulder. "Then just give it up, Yuhyeol. Just stop because this ain't doing you any good, at all. You can just let go of the past and live for the present, can't you? I will stay with you." He said in the most consoling tone he could utter.

"Stop? Give it up? Live for the present? Do you think I'll work this hard just to give up everything and stop? We've been this far, Jin Su-ya, I can't just give up now. I will give Lee Han Se what he deserved." Red said trying to sound determined yet he knows for himself that he wasn't determined enough.
Ju Jin Su shook his head and opened a can of beer before gulping it in one shot. He sighed deeply and leaned his back on the chair. He wanted to support Red in everything he will do but if it'll make him the monster he fears, he doesn't know anymore.
"You know what, I'm not sure anymore, Hyeol. Are you sure you won't regret doing this revenge someday? Are you sure you're not letting your anger eat your whole personality? Will you not regret anything?" Ju Jin Su asked.
Red looked at him seriously. "Jin Su-ya, you know what I regretted the most? It's the choice that I made that day. It's the choice of letting my most prescious person to sacrifice our lives for someone who wouldn't even look at us." His undetermined eyes earlier were now filled with anger.
"Hyeol, aren't you just being blinded by your vengeance? I'm just worried that you're going to far." Jin Su's intention was to enlighten Red but he didn't take it that way, for Red feels like the only person he trusted was also thinking of leaving him behind.
He stood up harshly and glared at Ju Jin Su. "Why? Are you really worried? Ju Jin Su, if you wanted to back out, then just do it. If you're scared, then leave. If you don't want to get involved with this anymore, you're free to go. Also, you don't have to call me or come see me anymore." Red said and walked out of the room leaving Ju Jin Su feeling bad.
Red was furious but he was also hurt. He felt like he's being abandoned again for the second time. Ju Jin Su rushed to chase after Red, fortunately, he managed to grab his hand to stop him from going anywhere but Red grabbed it back.
"Hyeol, it's not what I mean—"
"What? You forgot to say something? If not then just get the fuck away, Ju Jin Su." He glared at him.
"Come on, I was worried about you." He explained but Red's glare remained piercing.
"Stop making that excuse. If you want to back out, I already gave you the permission." Red continued walking away again but was stopped by what Ju Jin Su said next.
"Do you really wanted that revenge?"

"Yes, I wanted it!" Red strongly answered.
"Then why didn't you killed him when you have the chance earlier? Why didn't you pierced his heart with that knife in your hand when he was lying unconscious in that hospital bed? You had the chance, I gave you the chance, Hyeol." Ju Jin Su asked but Red couldn't find a word to answer him.
Red couldn't answer because he doesn't know what to say. Few hours earlier, he was at the hospital, watching Detective Lee sleeping. He has every chance to kill him but he couldn't find the strength to do so. He doesn't know he couldn't used all the anger in his heart to end his life when he was given the chance earlier.
"Hyeol, you have all the chance earlier. He can't fight you back because he was sleeping. Why didn't you do it if you despise him that much?" Ju Jin Su questioned.
"It's because his death isn't enough for me to get my revenge, I want him to suffer more." Red responded, staring directly at Ju Jin Su's eyes.
"Hyeol, you're not planning to kill Officer Chad, are you? You're not going to use him to hurt Detective Lee, would you?" Jin Su furrowed his brows, looking hesitant.
Red's expression changed, he has an evil grin in his lips now. "It's a surprise. If you wanted to know, then stay with me until the end." He said before leaving Ju Jin Su behind.
He could only follow Red with his eyes. He wanted to free Red from his vengeful desires. He wanted to free him from the prison of his past. Ju Jin Su genuinely cares for Red, that's why he stayed by his side all throughout the time. He helped him create his plan for revenge, he risked his life to help Red. He was even ready to ruin his life just to help Red. Leaving him behind isn't a choice for him. He will stay beside him no matter what.
On the other, Devius Wayne Chad was still tied on the chair, he couldn't tell how long he's been in that position but his body is starting to feel numb. His lips weren't sealed anymore but his eyes was covered with a cloth. Being a highly trained police officer, he heard the footsteps coming inside the room.
"Red, is that you? What do you want again? Why don't you just tell me?" The officer asked.
Ju Jin Su looked at him and sighed. "Officer Chad,, I know you can't see me but you can hear me. I am here to apologise for getting you involved in everything but I wanted you to know that Red isn't a bad person." He said in a long litany.
Devius furrowed his brows. "Who are you? Why is your voice so familiar? Do I know you? And why do you know Red?" He asked in confusion.
Jin Su sighed. "It's not important whether who I am or if you know me, officer. But if you ever managed to escape here, please don't look for the truth nor don't try to dig deeper because you'll only hurt one of the most important person to you." He stated but that only confused Devius more.
"I don't understand. You don't sound like a bad person. Are you Red's accomplice? Why is your voice so familiar to me?" Officer Chad questioned.
"I don't know what I am to him, Officer Chad but I wanted to be the person who will stay by his side until the very end." Ju Jin Su said that in the most sincere way, as if his heart was speaking for him.
"Then are you gonna tolerate everything? By the way you speaks about him, I know that you care a lot for Red. You have to help him find what is right." Officer Chad tried to convinced him but Ju Jin Su just smiled and nodded.
"Officer, you're right. Red is the most important person to me. But I won't force him to do anything. I'll stay beside him or even act like a shadow, guiding him from behind." Jin Su said with a smile in his lips.
"If you wanted to help him, then free me."
"I'm sorry but I couldn't do it. I can't betray the person who trusted me. I can't betray Red just like how his best friend did before. I just wish you good luck, officer. I hope nothing will happen until Detective Lee finds you. But, you can trust my words, Red will never hurt you." Ju Jin Su walked towards him and patted his shoulder.
For some reason, Officer Chad felt like his smell and his presence were so familiar. His calm, comforting voice and the way this strang man speaks, everything feels familiar to him. He wanted to asked more but he heard the steps walking away from the room.

The Gatekeeper
Quick Synopsis:This is the story of Reylor, a god-like existence who lost a great portion of his strength when accidentally sent from his “home” to another world. Making friends and learning to harness to power of magic, he maintains his commitment to his prior duty and proceeds to fight against corruption, both on a political front and against what is known as the shade.(Note, this story focuses on action and adventure, so politics are not in depth) This has been my first novel, which was primarilly inteded as a learning experience, and so it may be a bit rough in regards, but it should definitely be readable and it is a full story. I may make some adjustments to it later on, but there's no guarantee... anyhow, it's free to read, so give it a go! Also, feel free to check out my new website: aretornovels.wordpress.com

Queer Tales From A Street Nominally Associated With Your Reality
The street is not from your world, and yet it's attached, clinging like a shadowy limpet to the edge of your London, your city skyline stabbing into it from above. Or well that's what we tell ourselves, no one who lives here really knows. We are after all just regular folk displaced from our original realities. Just a bunch of folks with queer tales from a street nominally associated with your reality. What to expect: - A series of interlinked short stories gradually unpacking the lives, complications and mysteries associated with those who live in the street - A weird pseudo-British setting where physics works inconsistently, and houses move position regularly - Stories filled with LGBTQ+ characters, and in particular ones on the trans/nonbinary spectrum - Potentially iffy grammar, I'm new to publishing my work online, so whilst I am checking things before posting it’s a near certainty that some things will slip through - A schedule of one chapter every two weeks.
