《Call Of Death》Chapter 66 : Nightmares of the Past

When Detective Lee finally opened his eyes, the grey ceiling of an unfamiliar room greeted him. His vision was still blurry and spinning. He could feel his head throbbing and the noise from his surroundings weren't recognizable. They were just mumbles and whispers. He lifted his hand to massage his temples and closed his eyes once again.
'Dang it!'
He felt confused as to what had happened. The last thing he could remember was that he went back to that awful place to save Devius, that's all he could remember before he passed out. As time passes, the noise from his surroundings were slowly getting clearer and readable. Detective Lee slowly sat up, his eyes still closed. He took a deep breath before slowly opening his eyes.
His vision of the room is now clear, though he still feel the pain in his head, everytime is a lot better than earlier. He looked around and found the place familiar to him. The wall, the paintings hung on it and the bed he was just lying on moments ago.
"This place... w-what am I doing here?" He asked himself filled with confusion.
He could feel his heart starting to race again as the familiar room was something he hates to be in. It was the same room his nightmares resumed. In this exact room, his misery continued.
"Why the hell am I here again? What am I doing here? I don't want to be here!" Cameron violently stood up and ran towards the wooden door. "Let me out! I don't want to be here! Open the fucking door!" He shouted while banging at the door.
All the fear he had felt in his childhood was gradually and one by one was returning to him. His heart was beating faster and faster, like a horse on a race. He wanted to get out and leave that room as quickly as possible but no matter how hard he banged on the door, it wouldn't open. Cameron was hoping that somebody would hear his shouts but few minutes had passed and still, no one was helping him out.
"Let me out! Dad! Help me! Get me out of this fucking place!" He screamed but no one was there, he couldn't see anyone coming.
For a long time, Detective Lee thought that only the fear and the sight of the place where all his nightmares took place would remain in his memory, yet he had no idea that he would be stranded there once again. When he was saved by his adopted father, Harold, from the orphanage where he was constantly being abused, he thought he was finally going to be safe. But no matter how hard he tried, his past always come to haunt him.
"Fuck it! Get me out this damn place!"
Extreme fear, confusion and anxiety prevailed throughout his system. For the first time in his entire life, he wished for someone to come out of nowhere to help and rescue him from that place. His whole body was shaking because of the mixed feelings. His knees were weakening, trembling and he could feel the cold beads of sweat dripping down his forehead and all over his body. That place, when viewed by someone seemed like just a normal room but in Cameron's memory, it was a hell he had long wanted to escape.

If the life in that basement gave him hope that he would be saved one day and will be able to get out, that room shattered that hope and made him think that there is no such place he could call safe. He hated the feeling of fear inside his heart but it was getting bigger and bigger that it's becoming unable to fight.
"Please, help me. Get me out of here! I don't like this place. I don't want to remember everything. I'm begging you, if anyone hears me. Please get me out of this goddamn place!" He cried and started banging on the wooden door again like the child he used to be.
It was just a wooden door but as Cameron was already feeling weak, he couldn't break it open. His fear were triggered. The brave tiger seemed to have turned into a poor, helpless little kitten. The fear he's feeling was like a virus that's quickly swallowing, devouring and weakening him.
"P-Please... Somebody let me out of this place. I-I'm begging you..." He tightly gripped his hands into a fist.
Cameron closed his eyes, hoping that when he open them again, he was already out of there but it was just a hopeless move. Because he was still trapped in the nightmares of the past. With all his might, he was still constantly begging for someone to let him out of the room. His was filled with tears and his heart is still crazily pounding inside his ribcage.
But all of that was just a nightmare because in reality, Detective Cameron Lee was lying unconsciously on the old building's dusty floor. His forehead was furrowed and his fists were tightly clutched. Beads of sweats were formed in his forehead.
Outside the old building, three cars just arrived. Detective Kairo Sedis Parker, Police Officer Isaac Chase and Harold Lee got out of each as they hurriedly run towards the building. The three became worried when they saw the detective lying unconscious on the floor.
"Camz!" Harold hurriedly ran towards his son to check on him. "What happened to you, son?" His voice sounded really worried.
"Chief Lee, let's take him to the hospital." Isaac said to which the elder agreed.
Isaac and Kairo helped each other to carry Cameron to the car. They called some authorities nearby to check and investigate on the area. Then they immediately drove to the nearest hospital in the area. Fortunately, a doctor was already there to assist them and take immediate care for Cameron. The three guys worriedly waited while Detective Lee is getting examined.
"Parker! Chief Lee! Chase!" Chief Sara Simon worriedly approached them as soon as she arrived at the hospital.
"Chief!" Isaac and Kairo both saluted as respect to their superior.
"What really happened to Cameron, Detective Parker?" Chief Simon questioned the detective who just sighed. "Also, how did you find out where he was?" She added.

"To be honest, I'm not sure if I should be the one telling you this, Chief." He said in a hesitant tone.
"Parker, if you're not going to tell me, how are we going to help Cameron? I needed to know everything before this happened. I'm so confused with everything." She stated.
"Chief..."
"Kairo, please tell me everything you know." She said in a pleading voice.
"Sara, calm down." Harold stood up and held her on the shoulders. "I know you're concerned about Camz but calm yourself down." He advised.
"Chief Lee, how am I supposed to calm down? You told me on the phone that you found my friend unconscious on a place he never should have been." Chief Simon fell on her feet, holding her forehead.
"What do you mean, Chief? Why is senior not allowed to be in that place?" Officer Chase asked in confusion.
Chief Simon shook her head but she didn't answer him. Instead, she stood up and faced Detective Parker. "Tell me everything you know, Parker." She demanded.
Detective Parker sighed. "I went to his house earlier because one of the juniors told me he went home quickly and he was looking really worried. When I saw him, he told me that Devius is missing and someone was holding him in captivity."
"What? Wayne was kidnapped?" Isaac asked in surprised, he only thought that it was the detective who's in danger, not his friend.
"Yeah. That's the time when Chief Lee suddenly appeared." Kairo looked at Harold who only sighed. "Someone called him and gave him an address to where he could find him, Detective Lee was very worried that he didn't even listened to me when I told him not to go." He narrated in a long litany.
"I was the one to blame here. I told him to go." Harold sat down on the steal seat. "I told him to go and save the boy but I never knew it that it will be the cause." He sounded guilty, Chief Simon sat beside him and rubbed his back as an act to comfort the elder.
She looked at Kairo. "How did you know that the address was in that abandoned building, Parker?"
"Well, I am good at tracking, Chief. At first, I'm not sure that he's gonna be there but it's where I found Cameron. I called Isaac immediately to accompany me and Chief Lee." He responded.
"Chief Simon, Detective Parker, what do we do now? Daena doesn't know that her brother is missing yet. We can't let anything bad to happen to my best friend." Officer Chase said in a worried tone.
"I'm sure Cameron will also do everything to find and save Devius. We'll do everything to save him, Chase." Chief Simon assured them.
Chief Simon and Detective Parker looked at each other's eyes. They both know that no one is sure whether the officer will be safe or not. The three went silent while Harold gave out a sigh. Sara and Harold, both of them has no idea what to do. Even Isaac Chase can't think of a way to find and save his friend because he doesn't know where he was.
After sometime, Officer Chase has to go because he still has some tasks to do. He just told his seniors to give him some news when Cameron wakes up. The examination isn't that long but for the three, it felt like an eternity. When the doctor finally got out of the emergency room, they all stood up and approached him.
"Doctor, how's my son?" Harold asked.
The doctor smiled but sighed. "Aside from some bruises that he might have gotten when he fell unconscious, everything looks fine physically but we saw something and we would like to suggest CT scan or MRI to confirm it." The doctor explained.
Detective Parker, Chief Simon and Harold looked at each other and then faced the doctor. "What do you mean? Why do you need a CT scan? Is something wrong with Cameron?" Sara queried.
The doctor sighed again. "Well, everything looks fine physically, like I said. But there's a possibility that he had brain tumor and other internal injury."
"WHAT!?" They asked in surprised.
"That's impossible. Cameron is as healthy as a bull. How can he have something like brain tumor?" Kairo shook his head in disbelief.
"Sir, it's just a possibility. I'm not saying that he has one. That's why we need a CT scan and MRI to confirm it. Also, we have to interview him when he wakes up for further analysis."
"Fine, just do everything for my son's safety. I'll handle the money." Harold said.
The doctor smiled and nodded. "He'll be up in no time, you can visit him. I have to go, I'll just send a nurse to do the CT scan later." Then he walked away.
Harold took a deep breath. He doesn't know what to feel exactly. He left his adopted son because of guilt. He thought when he doesn't see him, he'll forget everything but when he met Devius in the morning and got to spend some time with him, he realized he wanted to spend time with Cameron too. He hid himself for so long but now that he wanted to be with his son, problems are starting to come out one by one.
