'Where the hell am I?'
Devius Wayne Chad woke up in an unfamiliar place. His hands and legs are both tied up tightly and his lips were covered with tape. He felt dizzy and his head was painfully throbbing. He tried to move and loosen the rope but it was no use as it was really tied tight. He looked around to figure out where he is but he doesn't remember any corner. Then he heard a series of foot steps heading towards his direction. He just observed. He couldn't remember what happened before he lost his consciousness.
"Good day, Officer Chad. You're finally awake. I guess Ju Jin Su's sedatives are really strong and effective." A familiar voice was heard.
Officer Chad wrinkled his forehead upon hearing his voice. He wanted to say something but was unable to as his lips were sealed with tape. The man continued to walk until he was in front of him. Devius couldn't see his face as he was wearing a weird mask and a long, black coat. But just by looking at him and hearing his voice, he already has an idea in his mind of what the person's identity is.
"What does he want from me? Is he Red?" He questioned himself.
"Do you want to hear some news?" Red said in a joyous tone.
Devius furrowed his brows. "What does he have under his sleeves again?"
"You're detective was very worried about you by now and he said, I should return you to him. He even threatened to kill me and hunt me to hell if I dare touch one single hair of yours." The man behind the mask laughed as he shook his head. "Oh? I forgot that you can't talk, sorry. Let me help you." He walked towards Officer Chad and removed the tape in his lips. "There you go."
"Why are you doing this? What are you getting by doing this? By the way you sounded, you're still young. Don't ruin yourself with anger and vengeance." Devius spoke the moment the tape was removed from his lips.
"Fancy. You didn't asked me of who I am, seems like you already knew, officer. But to answer your questions, I'm here for just one reason and one purpose." The man in a mask said.
"I believe that your purpose nor your reason isn't enough to justify everything you did."
"Really? Let me tell you then. My reason of doing this is Lee Han Se and my purpose is to give him what he deserved. I'm going to take back what is meant to be mine."
Officer Chad looked at him with confused eyes. "What do you mean by taking back what is meant to be yours? What is your connection with Cai? Who are you really? What do get in everything you're doing?" He asked.
"I am Red, but I am not just Red. I am more than a person named Red, officer. I am also a brother who's been mourning for all the years I've existed. But it's not the right time to tell you the whole story yet, officer. I'll tell you once your little detective is here." Red leaned over to make their heights equal.

"What? What do you mean?" Devius felt a little nervous, he knows something was up with this guy.
"I called him and told him to come here if he dares to. I gave him the address." Red smirked.
"Red, I'm warning you. If you hurt him, I'll kill you!"
"Ooh, how sweet. He said the same thing." Red took out a knife inside his pocket which made Officer Chad's eyes widen. "...but don't worry, I won't kill you nor him because I'm not done playing yet. I'm just starting to have fun." He then sliced a large part of the officer's shirt.
"What are you going to do?" Officer Chad swallowed hard.
"Watch me." Red said and held the knife's blade tightly, causing him to bleed. He used the piece of Devius' clothes to wipe the blood in his hand.
"Are you crazy? That could be very dangerous! Disinfect your wound, you dumbass!" Devius scolded in shock, he couldn't believe his eyes.
"What? Are you worried about me just now?"
"Tch! You're crazy! You're a psycho."
"Yes, I am. I am a lunatic but someone made me like this, officer. Let me tell you, I can't wait to see your reaction once you find out the truth. Also, I can't wait to see how your lover will react once he realized who I am." After saying that, he walked out of the place.
Red tightly clenched his hands. He could feel the stinging pain in his wound as it was still bleeding from the cut he did himself. But for some unknown reason, the pain gave him some mysterious satisfaction. There was a smirk curved on his lips behind the mask he was wearing but there's also a massive part of his heart where anger is burning up and behind everything, at the depth of his human heart was a gigantic wound that never stopped bleeding. It never stopped begging to be healed. He doesn't know if getting revenge will lessen that heavy burden in his chest but he'll do everything to make the person who hurt him to feel the same pain he has been long carrying.
"No matter what happens, you have to feel the pain that I had been carrying for years. I can't just let you live happily while I was here suffering. You, Lee Han Se, you hurt me and left me but don't worry, my genius plan will do the rest." Red clutched his fist and headed outside.
He hopped inside the car and drove back to the old building where he lured Officer Devius Chad earlier. He didn't wrapped anything to his wound except for the piece of Devius' clothes. Red has an evil, perfect plan circulating inside his mind. Just by thinking about it, he was already imagining what reaction will he get from the detective.
The truth is he didn't tell him where Devius is exactly located. He gave him the address of the old, burnt bar inside of his hideout. He doesn't plan on meeting his enemy yet. After leaving the piece of cloth, he drove back to a place with a smirk on his face. He just placed a hidden camera so he could watch the detective's moves once he arrived.

On the other hand, Detective Cameron Lee could feel his heart racing while he was on the way to the said place. Not just because he was worried about his partner's safety but also because he never thought he would be able to go back to that same place after a very long time. He surely have been near that area before for an investigation but he never thought he'd be going to the exact place again. If he had a choice, he would never want to go back there nor to even just think about it. But he wouldn't choose anything right now but save the officer, it's Devius' life that is at stake and he couldn't bear to risk his partner being in danger just because of his fear.
'I'm coming, Chad. Just hold on there, I'm coming.'
He swallowed hard multiple times. He could feel cold sweats on his forehead as he gets near the area. After some time of driving, he finally could familiarize the road. The shady trees, the tall grasses and on the distance, the visibly burnt building. After gaining some of his memories back, the fear inside his heart intensified. Before, he doesn't remember that the place was caught on fire, giving him the chance to escape. He thought someone rescued him, that's why he was sent to the orphanage where his adopted father got him.
"Did I choose to forget them?" He asked himself but he also doesn't know the answer.
Cameron took a deep breath. He gripped at the steering wheel of his car after parking it. He felt like he couldn't move any muscle but then he felt the phone vibrating inside his pocket.
"Hello?" Cameron quickly answered it.
"Don't just stay there, detective. Don't you see the smoke coming out of that house? Hurry up and save your lover or you'll never get to see him again." After hearing those words from the other line, Detective Lee quickly glanced at the distance and realized that there were smoke coming out of the building.
He quickly got out of the car but he couldn't move his feet. Just seeing the smoke, he felt as if he was going to faint. His heart was palpitating hard and fast. There were drops of cold sweat on his forehead and his hands were trembling. He feet were glued on the ground and he couldn't move a muscle.
"Oh. Do you fear that place? Look at you looking like a scared cat, shivering and trembling just by staring at it. Was the place familiar? Or was it the fire?" Red's voice were teasing.
"You! What do you know about me? Why are you doing this!? What did I do to you, you motherfucker!?" Detective Lee angrily yet nervously yelled, breathing rapidly.
"Not me, detective. You did nothing to me. You did nothing for no one, that's why I despise you so much!"
"What the fuck do you mean?"
Red laughed on the other side of the line. "You'll know very soon but for now, if you can't go in there just let me remind you, your lover won't wait for you." Then he hung up.
"Hello? Hello!" Cameron called but the line was already cut, he bit his lower lips because of nervousness.
He doesn't know what to do. Just staring at the place and seeing the smoke coming out of it is making every muscle in his body to tremble like crazy. He couldn't took a step forward but he was worried about the officer's safety.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!"
He pulled his hair and angrily threw the phone on the ground, fortunately, there were grass so the screen didn't break. He looked down at his hands and they were shaking. The fear inside his heart is growing bigger and bigger each time.
"Devius, what should I do?" He was so worried and scared at the same time, it's making him unable.
He knew the time is crucial but what could he do? Cameron took a deep breath, closed his eyes and tried his best to start walking. His feet felt like they weigh millions of tons He doesn't know how far he has been walking because he never opened his eyes. That's the only way he could get near the place he considered as his own hell. He only stopped when he couldn't finally smell the burning scent.
"DEVIUS WAYNE CHAD!" He called but got no answer.
"DEVIUS CHAD, WHERE ARE YOU?" He shouted again but still no response.
"CHAD, PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE FINE! SPEAK TO ME!" He said but failed to get any answer again.
Cameron balled his fist tightly as he tried his best to open his eyes. It took him a lot of effort but when he had finally managed to open it halfway, he realized he was already inside the building but what caught his eyes was the bloody piece of clothing on the dusty floor near a burning pieces of wood. He could recognized it because Devius was wearing it earlier when he was at the headquarters.
"No... No, no, no..." He whispered as he slowly walked towards it. "D-Devius." He couldn't see the guy but his heart was bursting with anxiety and fear.
Thinking about the officer's safety and being at that place was just too much for him. The fear was slowly eating him up as he picked up the bloody piece of clothing on the floor. The smell of burning wood made his stomach to backflip. He couldn't breathe properly due to panick.
When he accidentally turned to the other side, he saw the writing on the wall, causing him to feel dizzy. He feels like throwing up and his head was starting to painfully throb. Everything that happened in that place started coming back to his memory. He could feel his head hurting as he knelt down the dusty floor. And before he could realized, Cameron already passed out.

And these mortals are only the beginning of what stands in her way. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Warning: There will be times that morally suspect themes happen. While I have little to no intention of showing them (especially during a Writathon) things like abuse of all kinds (neglect, emotional, mental, spiritual, physical and sexual) can or be implied to have happened. These are played to the horrors such things are, and are treated with the seriousness and aftereffects it would cause. Pawns of God
Five Lines PitchJoin Mark in his fight against a God and change the game's destiny! Delve into a slow-paced story focused on the progression of the main party and the development of the world. Mark himself will be narrating his life inside the game, and to a much lesser extend outside. Guild building, economy, and strategy are the central pieces of the novel. Mark is not overpowered, he will have to build his own power through action-packed battles, trials, traumas, love, and death. Accompany him, the healer and the strategist, an agent of chaos, in the adventure of his life. Without further preamble, I will let Mark take the mic. SynopsisHi! My name is Mark. This is my story, my life as I live it day after day. I’m in my thirties, and there’s nothing I love more than playing online games. I’ve just joined the action on the newest VRMMO game, Pawns of God. An immersive experience you can play while sleeping. Of course, as a game that takes pride in its long development and technological advances, everything inside seems and feels real. Beware, this is not a game-turns-real story. I love my own world and I would detest being summoned into another one. If that ever happens, I’ll just quickly take my life and be done with it. I play with my friends, in a party of 5. We have taken several roles, but lately, I've come to love being a healer. It's my secret ambition to someday be the shotcaller. I am not overpowered. If there is any bug or exploit in the game, they are yet to be discovered. Anyhow, for a game of this scale, the company is pouring all of its resources into test servers, QA, and beta tests. I don’t expect to find any, so I’ll be playing the game just like any other person. I must say, though, I am easily distracted, as you will immediately notice once you start. I'm working on it, I promise to improve! I am no hero. Being in my 30s, my heart is too old for this shit. I wouldn’t mind being one, of course. Who hasn’t dreamt of it? Either way, I’m not doing any grand quest to save the world. Whatever the game throws to their users, I’ll be there to experience it. Most of my life, at least the interesting parts that I’ll be narrating, happen inside the game itself. Rarely, there will be some IRL (In Real Life) chapters. You’ll understand, however, that as a freelance software developer, there is not much I can entertain you with when outside the game. Did I say I love games? Well, I’m also a fan of LitRPG literature. You know, journeys of magic, relationships, personal development, items, skills, discovery… In the spirit of not overwhelming my public, I’ll condense each chapter into circa 1500 words. You might have noticed some tags over this story, let me elaborate. I like to swear. I’m not shy when it comes to cursing my enemies, friends, or even myself. When there’s blood, I tell it as I see it. And… it hurts to admit it, but I’m not a casanova. Of course, this doesn’t mean that I won’t ever find love. So, in case I do end up finding it, let’s keep my sexual options open. As for traumas, none yet, but the future is vast and unknown. Release Schedule The schedule is subject to change, particularly if enough readers end up loving it. All chapters are already written, thus there is enough freedom to modify them. Arc 1 * Chapters 1-14: Each released one day and an hour later than the previous. Starting with chapter 2 at 09:20 UTC+2 on day 1, and finishing at 21:20 UTC+2 on day 13. Impossible for you, that is. Your smartass friend inevitably figures them out in seconds while you're sitting there dumbfounded, wondering where your money went. [19:31] Oxymoronic: Or maybe you are that smartass friend. [19:33] Oxymoronic: Well, I played an escape room game that even all the smartasses in the world couldn't have figured out. [19:35] Oxymoronic: I could have written a novel about what we have come to call the Babel Maze. But frankly, I'm not much of a writer. I'd much rather prefer to let the forum archives speak on their own. [19:36] Oxymoronic: Might take a few months to upload all this. Lots of clutter, lots of spam. Cleaning all this is going to be a nightmare. [19:38] Oxymoronic: That's just what internet janitors like me do.
