《Call Of Death》Chapter 61 : Marks From The Past

Cameron was been driving back and forth to look for Devius but he couldn't see him. He even called the officer many times but he never picked up. The anxiety inside the detective' chest grew bigger every second. He stopped in front of Sienna Police Station where Police Officer Isaac Chase was waiting for him. The moment that the Isaac saw him, he hurriedly saluted as respect.
"Senior, what happened? Where Wayne?" He worriedly asked.
"I haven't found him yet. I think he left when it was still dark. He's not picking his phone up either." Cameron stated.
Isaac and Cameron hopped inside the car and begun searching again. It took them an hour before Cameron received a call from Chief Simon stating that Devius was already at the headquarters. Detective Lee drove back hurriedly. He felt so relieved when he saw Officer Chad sitting on his desk the moment he and Isaac entered the door. Both men hurried towards Devius.
"Wayne! Where have you been?" Officer Chase asked.
Devius looked at him in confusion. "What are you doing here, Isaac?"
"Detective Lee has been looking for you. We were so worried, why didn't you answer our calls?" Isaac said.
Devius confusedly turned to his partner. "Why did you looked for me?"
"What do expect me to do, huh? I didn't see you when I woke up, you weren't at the headquarters. I tried calling you but you never picked up. Am I supposed to stay chill?" Cameron said in an annoyed tone.
Devius smiled. "I'm sorry, it's my fault. I forgot that I put my phone in silent mode, so I didn't noticed you calls." He explained.
"Where di you go anyway? Did you drink? You smelled like beer." Officer Chase queried.
"You went to drink so early?" Detective Lee asked wrinkling his forehead.
"I just met a friend and we did drink a little but don't worry, I'm not drunk." He reasoned but the smug look on Cameron's face didn't go away.
Detective Lee shook his head and went to his table without saying a word. Cameron couldn't believe that he would worry so much about the officer but Devius only went to drink while he was so anxious looking for him. While on the other hand, Devius and Isaac went outside to talk.

"What really happened to you? Did you just went with a friend and drunk some beer so early? But you have no friends aside from me?" Officer Chase asked while they're walking.
"Wow! I have other friends, you know?" Devius laughed.
"We've been best friends for years, Wayne, I know you. You smelled like cigarette too. These things you only do when you're having a problem." Isaac muttered in a worried tone.
Officer Chad sighed. "Fine, I do have some problems but I didn't lie when I said I went for a drink with a friend."
"You do have other friends that me?" Isaac looked surprised but Devius gave him a grim look.
"He's a good new friend I just met. His name is Harry."
"Really? Harry who? Harry Potter? Prince Harry? Harry Styles? Harry Kane? Harry Houdini?"
"Isaac, am I a joke to you? You don't believe that I really met a new friend?" He raised his brows.
Isaac sighed. "I believe you, I just wanna know who this new friend of yours, Harry something."
"I really don't know much about him yet. I just met him this morning because I took a taxi and he happened to be a driver." Devius explained.
Officer Chase furrowed his brows. "You befriend random people now? I know you're friendly but don't you ever think of replacing me." He joked.
"Don't worry, you're my only and most favorite friend."
"That's good. So tell me more about this Harry." Officer Chase smiled as he placed his arm around his friend's shoulder.
"He said he used to be a detective but he resigned due to a case he failed to solve and a kid he failed to save." Officer Chad shrugged his shoulder.
"Really?"
"Yeah. That's what he said."
"If he used to be a detective, where did he worked before?"
"I didn't asked that."
"Alright."
Both friends spent some time to talk to each other before Officer Chase was called to get back to their station because he has some tasks to do. Devius also went back inside the headquarters. He wanted to talk to Cameron but he saw that his partner is already too busy. After quite a while, Devius felt his phone vibrating in his pocket. He took it out and saw that it was Red who was calling. He glanced at Detective Lee but he was still busy so Devius went out to answer the call.

"Why are you calling?" He spoke.
"Why didn't you came? I was waiting for you, officer. I thought you wanted to know everything?" Red questioned.
"Why did you want me to meet you at such a place?" Officer Chad furrowed his brows.
Red chuckled on the other line. "Why? Were you scared?"
"I'm not scared of anything, Red. I just wanted to know, why did you chose to meet me at that place? What is your connection to the things that happened there in the past?" Devius queried.
There was silence on the other line before Red spoke. "That's not the question, officer. It's what happened in the past? What is your detective's connection to that?"
"What do you mean?" Devius eagerly asked.
"I told you, if you wanted to know. I'll always be waiting at our meeting place. It's up to you if you wanted to go or if you wanted to ignore me again. See you, officer." Red stated before finally cutting the line.
Devius was curious to know everything. He wanted to know if Red is related to that place and if Cameron's burnt mark is connected to what happened in the past. He knew it wasn't a good idea but he still chose to do it. He took a taxi since the car keys are in his partner's possession and he doesn't want Cameron to asked about anything. Going to that place, Devius feelings are mixed. He's curious, a little nervous but also he felt eager.
"Officer, are you sure about the place you are going?" The taxi driver asked while driving, glancing at Devius from the rear mirror.
"Hmm. I have to meet someone there." He responded.
"But, you know what's the story behind that place, did you?" A tone of hesitation is visible in voice.
Devius nodded. "Yes, I've heard about it. But the investigation said the kid's body was never found so there's no proof that he really died."
"Yes, no body was found but that place is haunted." The taxi driver commented.
"How?"
"People who passed that at night said they saw some movements and shadows. That's impossible because no one approaches that place unless they really needed too." He narrated.
Devius fell silent. He doesn't believe in ghost but he also doesn't believe that ghost do not exist. The drive wasn't that long because of the clear road. When he finally got to his destination, he paid the driver and got out of the car but before the driver left he said one things to Officer Chad.
"Be careful and don't stay in that place until dawn or you will see the black coated ghost."
Those words imprinted into his mind like a stain. He started walking forward. Dried leaves are making noises as he stepped on them. The clouds started hiding the sun and the rain started pouring but thankfully, the rain wasn't that hard and the trees are giving him shelter. After a not so long walking, he arrived at a building.
Everything that his eyes saw was marked with black marks from the fire before. It might have happened long ago but the marks looks like it just happened yesterday. When he finally entered the building, he looked around. Just like Harry said, the place is a mess. Everything was torn down into pieces except for one particular room. The ceiling was damaged but the walls are still intact.
He walked towards where the basement was. He looked around and the moment he turned to look at the other side of the wall, he saw those two names written on it— Lee Han Se and Lee Jin Hong—those were what's exactly written. It wasn't so clear anymore due to the fire that broke out before but he could still read it. Devius got his phone out and took a picture of that.

The Girl in the Abyss
Synopsis: The mysterious force known only as "God's Guidance" implemented a game-like system and rebuilt the planet using continents from five different worlds. Join Ellie, a young girl whose soul is filled with an ocean of love and trust. No matter how horrendous the circumstance or dreadful the suffering her kindness manages to shine through, but everyone breaks eventually. Watch as the horrors of reality slowly chip away at a pure soul until nothing but a monster remains and follow her down the path of despair as she finds a reason to live. ‘Our fate is one that always leads to suffering, but you can smile, I’ll shoulder everything else.’ Warning 1: This story covers very mature themes which I have listed here: Torture of a child (The MC is the victim), death, killing, slavery, and light gore. Nothing sexual ever occurs to the main character. Warning 2: This is another apocalyptic LitRPG, has a brokenly OP MC, bad writing, horrible grammar, and garbage sentence flow. It is my first attempt at writing a story since grade school. Inspired by my four favorite stories: Overlord, CLANNAD, The Arcane Emperor, and Tokyo Ghoul. A note by me: This is not a world domination story or an action story. There is fighting but it's not the focus. Another note by me: This is a work in progress. I’ll likely go back and change stuff a lot. The cover art is by a friend who has encouraged me since the start. Releases: Volume two will not be out anytime soon sadly. I apologize for the Hiatus.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
