《Call Of Death》Chapter 59 : Traces of Memory

Officer Devius Chad sat up and curiously stared at Cameron's back. The burnt scar wasn't just a normal burnt mark. It must have been something serious because of how massive it is. It's almost occupying his upper back.
"Cai, did you have a mission before that involved getting into a building on fire?" Devius asked in curiosity.
Cameron turned to him with a confused expression. "I'm not a fire fighter. I haven't been into a mission that involved fire, only guns and bullets." He responded.
"Then where did you get the scar on your back?" Devius tilted his head in confusion.
Detective Lee looked at him as if he didn't understand. "A scar? What do you mean?" He asked.
Officer Chad wrinkled his forehead. "Yeah. The burnt mark on your upper back. Where did you get it?" He repeated.
"I don't have a burnt mark, Chad. I've never been to a fire." He shook his head but Devius is clearly seeing it.
"I swear there's a burnt mark behind your back. How come you don't know about it?" The officer insisted.
Cameron looked really confused for a bit because he doesn't remember being caught in a fire before for his mission. He ran to the bathroom and turned his back to the mirror to check it. That's when the scar on his back was revealed. Confusion is written all over his face.
'Why is it there? Where did I get this scar?' He asked himself, caressing his back.
He doesn't know he has such massive scar not until now because he never looked at himself on the mirror while naked. He just look at the mirror to check his clothes, if he was presentable and his appearance. Detective Lee was staring at his back from the mirror when he felt his head throbbing.
"Ah!" He winced as he held his head.
After hearing that, Devius immediately got up, put on his pants and ran to the bathroom to check on his partner. There, he saw Cameron, down on his knees while holding his head, looking like he's in a lot of pain. He quickly ran to his side and help him up.
"Cai, are you alright?" He asked in concern.
"M-My head hurts a lot. I-I feel dizzy." Cameron answered.
He felt like his head is going to explode from the pain. Then a blurry memory flashed into his mind. In that memory, he was inside the basement where he was held captivated for a long time. He could see the mirror and his reflection from it. It's just a memory yet he felt as if he was really there.
"Lee Jin Hong..."
"Crimson..."
He heard two names being called. He tried to look around to find where the voice is coming from but he couldn't see anyone. When he turned to look at the mirror again, he saw the reflection of fire. It's just in his head but he could feel the hotness of it from his skin.

"Crimson! Come on!" He heard the voice again.
When he turned around, he saw another kid, trying to put out the fire using a blanket. When he turned to the small window, he saw another kid forcefully pulling the metal frame to make a way out for them. He couldn't see the figure clearly because the memory was so blurry but he can say that they were little boys. The figure of the boy putting out the fire turned to him, gesturing him with his hand to come to his direction. He slowly walked towards the boy, struggling.
"Crimson, help me put off the fire." The kid said.
Cameron wanted to say something but he couldn't open his lips. 'Who is Crimson?' He just asked in his mind.
"Han Se-hyung... Jin Hong-hyung, it's dangerous there. Come here and help me pull this out so we could escape." He heard the other boy from the window shouted.
"No, we have to put out the fire first." The boy in front of him insisted.
The little boys' voice were really familiar to him but he doesn't remember who owns them. No matter how hard he tried, he could only see the blurry image of them. The fire, the mirror, the walls and the whole room were clear but those boys' images aren't. As time goes by, everything became all blurry and only the voices could be heard.
"Hyung, we have to go upstairs. That's the only way!"
"No, we will not leave him alone here! He can't get out if we go upstairs!"
"Listen, we won't leave you alone."
"The fire is getting bigger. Come on, we have to go."
"We'll all get out of here, Lee Han Se."
"Do you hear me?"
"Lee Han Se..."
"Lee Jin Hong..."
All those chatters and voices, he could hear them but everything around him became dark. Cameron tried walking forward and then he saw himself as a kid again. Everything was dark and only his younger version was seen, like it was in the spotlight.
His younger self started crying. He could feel the intense fear inside his chest just by watching. Everything was dark but he could feel the fire surroundings him. He felt the difficulty of breathing because of the smoke that's getting thicker and thicker in a rapid pace.
"I'm scared." The younger version of him mumbled, sobbing.
A figure of a kid walked towards him and held his hands. "Don't be afraid. I'll never leave you. Hmm? We promised each other that we won't leave anyone behind. I won't leave you behind, okay?" That comforting voice was so familiar yet he couldn't recognize it.
The pain in Detective Lee's head was getting worst as the memory kept flashing inside his mind. It's as if it was being fast forward. The next thing he saw in his memory was he fell down after a burning wood fell above him, hitting his back. The boy he was with came running to his direction and help him up. He lifted the burning wood using his hands, causing them to get burnt.

"Are you alright? Does your back hurt?" It's the kid's concerned voice.
The young Cameron started crying due to the pain from the flaming wood that fell to him.
"Shush... Stop crying, they will hear you. Listen, we will get out of here, okay?" The kid hugged him and even though he could still feel the pain, it miraculously eased it.
They held hands as they both started to forcefully, in full strength, pulling the metal frame. Little by little, with their kiddy strength, the frame begun to weaken and break. When it finally fell down, Cameron felt as if someone pushed him and he run outside but he felt that the boy who was holding his hands accidentally let go from their gripped. Cameron looked back and saw as a flaming wood fell on the poor kid's little body. It was blurry but he saw the fire devouring the innocent child.
"Help me!" He heard him yell. Cameron still wanted to find out what happened but that was the end of the flashback.
Detective Lee felt dizzy from the extreme pain in his head. He felt as his body fell down and Devius catching him. He even heard Officer Chad calling his name before he finally blacked out.
Devius worriedly carried Cameron back to the bed, face down. He was full of sweat and even though he was unconscious, his expression shows pain and fear. His brows are furrowed. His hands were tightly clutched. Even his breathing is a little faster than the usual.
"Cai, what happened to you? Please don't scare me like this, will you?" He mumbled in concern, caressing his partner's face.
Officer Chad sighed and gently traced touched the scar on his back. He doesn't know how he got it but he was sure it hurt him a lot. The story behind this massive scar, it must have wounded Cameron both inside and out for him to have such reaction.
"I wish I could do something to help you heal. I wish I could also erase all the traces of memories that's making you miserable. I wish it's that easy to make you forget all the bad things that happened to you in the past and replace it with only our happy memories." Officer Chad could feel his heart piercing while saying those words and watching Cameron sleep.
He leaned down and kissed Cameron on the forehead lovingly. He gave out a deep breath and stood up. He walked over to the window and inhaled the cold air. The surrounding's still dark but he's sure that the sun will come up soon. Also, he couldn't fall asleep anymore. Sighed and went to the bathroom to clean himself up. He used some wet towel to wash Cameron's body before lighting some cigarette. He felt stressed and it's the only way he could think of to wind up. After a little while, he heard Detective Lee's phone ringing so he went to pick it up. There wasn't any name written, only a cellphone number. He confusedly picked it up.
"Hello?" He said.
"Do you want to know the story behind his scar?" It was a familiar voice, even without a second, Devius knew it was Red.
"What do you want?" He asked.
Red laughed on the other line. "I don't want questions, officer. I just want an answer."
Devius clutched his jaws. "Why? Do you know something? And how did you know that he has the scar and that I know about it? Are you spying on us?" He asked consecutively, feeling confused.
Red chuckled again. "I said I don't want questions but alright, I'll give an exemption and answer your questions."
"Can you stop beating around the goddamn bush?" Officer Chad annoyingly complained.
"Alright. How did I found out that you already knew he has a scar? Because I have my eyes everywhere. Do I know something? I knew everything from the very beginning, more than you think, officer."
"What do you mean? Are you the culprit behind the Killer Caller case? Did you kill all those people?"
"If you wanted to know, then meet me at the place I'm going to tell you." Red stated and then he ended the call.
Devius is feeling hesitated. He glanced at Cameron who was sleeping in his bed. He wanted to help him but he would not be able to do it if he doesn't know anything about the problem. He knows Red isn't trustworthy and Detective Lee won't approve of him meeting with the guy but he has no choice. If there's a way to help the man he love to get out of his nightmarish past, he would do everything. He would do it even if he has to risk his life.
'Maybe this is really love, huh?'
