《Call Of Death》Chapter 52 : I'll Stay Beside You

Detective Kairo Parker was unconscious for almost two days as he lost a lot of blood due to the stabbed wound he got. He only got stabbed once but the wound is fatal. Fortunately, the operation went well and was saved on time. Detective Cameron Lee and Officer Devius Chad did the investigation but nothing seemed to lead them to what exactly happened. They aren't able to find the truth and their only hope is for Detective Parker to wake up and narrate them everything. Even if Cameron was determined that Red had to do something with what happened yet he doesn't have any proof and he also doesn't know anything about Red except for his voice and name—if that's really his name.
"Cai, here, drink some coffee." Officer Chad placed a cup of coffee down his partner's table who was still busy browsing some papers. "You've been working for two days straight, I'm worried about you."
Cameron sighed. "I'll be fine, Chad. I have to find out more information about Red." He said.
"But you've been up for two straight days without any sleeps and proper meal yet you still didn't find anything. You also need to rest. You'll get sick with what you're doing, Cai." Officer Chad lectured him, that's when he laid the papers down and leaned on his chair.
"If we don't catch him any time soon, more lives will be in danger and more people will get hurt. I can't afford to rest knowing that with every lottle delay of my action, many people's safety are at risk." He said in a very problematic voice.
Devius knows that his partner is a really hard working person but he noticed that he's extra hardworking these passed few days. He knows that Cameron is eager to catch the person behind the murder and he does too but he's worried about the detective's health. If he continues abusing his body without sleep, rest and proper meal, he'll surely perish before even solving the case. Officer Chad leaned on the table, facing his partner.
"Cai, I know that you wanted to bring the jerk behind bars and give justice to the people he killed but you still have to rest. You've also been so into finding more informations about Red. We are not even sure if he's really the culprit or if he is even related to the killer." Devius stared in a long litany.
Cameron looked at the officer but quickly shifted his gaze, avoiding eye contact. "That's why I'm working hard to find out more, so that I can relate Red with everything, the culprit and the murders." Detective Lee said but Devius could feel something more.

By the tone of Cameron's voice, Devius could tell there's is something more behind his partner being so eager. It's not just about relating Red to the crime and to the culprit. He can't tell what it is but he's sure there's something more.
"Cai, is there something else? Are you not telling me something?" He asked, furrowing his brows.
Detective Lee turned to him only to shift his gaze to another direction. "It's not that—"
"Cai," Devius held Cameron's face to make him look at him. "I know Red told you something that day when you talked to him. I just didn't ask because I don't feel it is the right time but now, can you tell me? What did he told you that made you so worried like that?" He said in a calm, convincing voice.
Detective Lee stared at Officer Chad's amusing eyes. Seeing them made his heart pound harder. In his heart, he could let himself fall in love even more but in his mind, it also makes him more worried. He doesn't want anything bad to happen towards the man he cherishes. He can't afford to let Devius be in danger again.
Even if he doesn't want to admit that he'd fallen for this naughty, noisy guy, he knew in his heart that he had. Just remembering that time when Devius was shot in front of him was a total nightmare, hearing Red threatening this man, he can't help but feel anxious.
Cameron tried to hide how he feels but his eyes gave him away. Devius saw it all. The anxiety flashing from his partner's dark, brown eyes.
"Cai, please tell me. What is it that he told you that's making you so anxious and eager to catch him?" Devius asked again.
"He told me..." Cameron sounded hesitant.
"What?"
"...that I should keep an eye on you because he might snatched you away from me. I don't exactly get what he meant but I don't like the way he said it." He has no choice but to be honest. Devius smiled and gave him a quick peck which made the latter surprised. "W-What was that for?"
"What?" Devius pretended not to know.
"Someone might see us, don't do something childish outside." He warned which only made Officer Chad smile even more. "What are you smiling for?
"Does that mean I can do something when it's just us?" He teasingly asked that made Cameron shy.
Detective Lee glared at him, trying to hide his embarrassment. "Tss!"
"Cai, seriously. You don't have to worry. I am a good fighter and no one can snatch me away from you." He said in the most reassuring voice he could muster.

"I'm still worried. You saw what happened to Parker. He might attack you when you're not prepared." Cameron unconsciously pouted with a sign making Officer Chad to smile even more. "What are you smiling at?"
"I can't help it. I can't imagine that you could be this cute when worried." Officer Chad giggled.
Cameron gazed at him annoyingly. "Who's cute? I'm getting worried about you here and you're calling me cute? I can't believe you."
"Cai, listen here. I promise, nothing will happen to me. One more thing, we're always together so it's really impossible for anyone to snatch me away from you." Devius assured him but Cameron is still worried.
"You should really never get away from me. I can't let anything happen to you, Devius." Detective Lee sincerely uttered, ruffling the latter's hair.
When Officer Chad leaned forward in an attempt to kiss him again, he turned his face in embarrassment which only made Devius to chuckle.
"Cai, why are you shy? It's just a peck, you know?" Officer Chad asked, pouting his lips.
"Tss! Somebody might see us and also, why would you suddenly kiss me? Who let you?" Detective Lee said without turning to face his partner.
Devius placed his chin on Cameron's shoulder. "But you weren't shy when you kissed me at the park, huh?"
Cameron turned to his partner in shock. "Hey! I was just... I just... I was... I..." Cameron wanted to his reason out but he couldn't utter the word.
"What? You were just what?"
"I was... I..." He awkwardly bit his lower lips when he couldn't continue what he was saying because he doesn't know what to say.
"You're really cute."
"Tss! You like it when I'm embarrassed, huh?" Cameron rolled his eyes and continued looking at the papers, Devius gave out a little laugh.
"Cai, I love you and I'll stay by your side no matter what happens. I promise, I won't leave you unless you wish for me to." He was caught off guard after Officer Chad whispered those words in his ear.
"Cai, I love you and I'll stay by your side no matter what happens. I promise, I won't leave you unless you wish for me to."
"Cai, I love you and I'll stay by your side no matter what happens. I promise, I won't leave you unless you wish for me to."
"Cai, I love you and I'll stay by your side no matter what happens. I promise, I won't leave you unless you wish for me to."
It echoed in his ears like a broken chord. Detective Lee felt his heart skipped a bit not because of how closed Devius to him but because of the words he just uttered. He never asked for the officer to stay but hearing him saying that he won't leave his side, Cameron started hoping. He slowly turned his face towards Devius, making their face a little closer. Their breath were on each other's skin. Officer Chad smiled and touch Cameron's face in the most caring way, looking straight into his eyes.
"So please, don't be anxious about Red's threat. I'll let you protect me and I'll protect you too. We'll catch the culprit and give justice towards his victims." Devius stated as he get nearer and gave Detective Lee the sweetest peck on the lips.
Detective Lee nodded his head and hugged his partner. Every words that came out of Devius' mouth miraculously made him feel at ease. It weird but it feels good for Cameron.
After that long conversation, Devius finally convinced him to get some rest after eating their late breakfast. While they were driving back to the apartment, Cameron and Devius' fingers remained intertwined to each other. It felt a little awkward but it doesn't feel bad. Detective Lee was still worried but after the officer's assurance earlier, he can finally say that a lot was more easier for him now.
"Cai, I'll just take a shower and then we'll sleep, okay?" Devius said when they entered the apartment.
Cameron ruffled his hair and smiled. "Hmm. Take your time, I'll be waiting."
"You'll be waiting?" Officer Chad gave him a teasing look to which Detective Lee only laughed.
"Silly, you're mind is so dirty." He laughed.
Hearing his laugher was a music to Devius' ears. He never expected that he will ever hear him laugh or even see him smile. But now, all the impossible things he thought was possible for him now. He saw him smile, he heard him laugh and he even can call him his lover now.
'Devius Chad, who would have thought that you will fall for this man when there's a lot of girl that are after you? Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.' His own thoughts made laugh as he walked towards the bathroom.
