《Call Of Death》Chapter 49 : His Story

After sitting on the bench and watching the night sky for a while, Devius felt Cameron's hand caressing his hair. They where watching the the stars twinkle like little diamonds up in the sky. There isn't much people around already because it's dark. There were only few and they're far from where the two are sitting. Fortunately, the park is open 24/7, so they didn't have to leave just yet.
"Hey, Chad..."
"Hmm?"
"I wanted to tell you something." Detective Lee mumbled.
Officer Chad looked up to him. "What is it, Cai?"
Cameron slightly smiled and sat properly, taking his arm off of Devius' shoulder as he lean backwards. "I wanted to give you a peak to my past."
"A peak to your past?"
"Mm-hmm." Detective Lee nodded. "To be honest, I've been thinking about it for the whole time and though I still have my doubts, I've decided to trust you."
"No matter what it is, you don't have to worry. You can trust me." Devius squeezed Cameron's hand.
Detective Lee took a deep breath, staring directly at the other's eyes. Officer Chad intertwined their fingers making Cameron's heart race again. It feels weirdly fascinating for him since he has never experienced it before. A hint of happiness is slowly growing from somewhere in his heart. Though Cameron doesn't know if that is what they called love, admiration or whatsoever, he likes that feeling that Devius' action is giving him. Detective Lee moved to lay down on his lap. Devius was surprised by his actions but smiled as he gently touch his partner's face.
"Cai, what is it? You can tell me." He assured.
"I wanted to tell you my past but it's not just a simple dramatic narration of the history of my life. You might even take back all your confession after hearing it." A hint of sadness was felt from the detective's voice.
Devius gave him a reassuring smile. "Nothing will make me regret confessing my love for you, trust me."
"Hmm." Cameron hummed. He went silent for a second before continuing. "Well, I grew up without knowing who my parents are or if they were alive. All I know is that, I was abducted when I was just born and I grew up in a place no one could ever imagine..." A flashback of memories came to him as he started narrating his story. "...I was locked up in a basement where there's only a mirror, a dirty bed and a very small window..." Just thinking about that place is making him uncomfortable but Cameron knew he needed to tell Devius his past. "...Everyday, I look at myself in front of that mirror. It took me a long time to finally see the outside world because in that basement, there was only a little gap where the sunshine is coming in..." He added. He could feel his heart aching as he started recalling all the memories of his childhood. "...When I finally got to get out of that place, I thought I'd be finally free. I thought I could finally escape from that hell I was in for a long time but I was wrong." A drop of tear came out of his eyes and he could feel his hands shaking.

"Cai..." Devius wanted him to stop but he also wanted to know Detective Lee better.
"I was sent to an orphanage after being rescued and that's when my soul got shattered more and more. I was abused physically and mentally by the staffs and some other kids. The place I thought I could call heaven was just another place of hell." At that point, Cameron's tears couldn't be held back anymore and all Devius could do was to hold his hand tightly, hoping that his little action could comfort his partner.
Yet seeing this usually tough guy cry, he could feel his heart aching for the man he love. "Cai, from now on, I'll make sure that you'll never have to experience anything like that anymore."
"Do you know why I hate going to bars? It's because I almost become a show once. My childhood as hell almost included me being watched naked on the stage." That was the memory he wanted to forget the most but was the hardest one to get rid of. "I hate the smell of alcohol and noisy places because it reminded me of the place I really despise."
"Cai..."
"If it wasn't for Mr. Lee, who raised and adopted me, I would never believe that there are good people in the world."
Devius' heart broke after hearing everything. He have known, handled and solved cases where children got abducted and abused in many ways but it's the first time he found out that there where things that are done even worst. Seeing Cameron's eyes soaked in tears is breaking his heart even more. He used his hand to wipe away his tears, his heart sinking.
"Cai, I'm sorry for always teasing you about the things you hate. I am really sorry for being a jerk to you." He said with a guilty tone.
Cameron shook his head. "You don't have to apologise, Chad."
"It's just that, I didn't expect you to have such nightmarish experience. I didn't know you suffered so much as a kid, you don't deserve it."
"I know, Chad, I know. Nobody deserved to experience anything like that."
"I know I can't change what has happened but I wanted you to know that I'm always here, Cai. I'll always be here. If you can't escape from that painful memory then I'll face them with you."
Cameron sat up and smiled. He remembered what the old man told him that night at the river. He was in an alcoholic influence at that moment but he clearly remembers what he said, word by word.
"Young man, if you're scared to face it alone. I'm sure someone is willing to hold your hand and face it with you. There will always be someone who's willing to stay with us in times like this. Those are the people who truly cares for us."

"If that person cherishes you a lot, he wouldn't mind even if he finds out your the devil yourself. You only have to trust that person and you will see. Just trust that person and he will always be beside you."
"Chad, thank you for wanting to stay beside me. For saying those words, for caring about me and for loving me. I really don't know how I will return everything especially your feelings because I have never been cared before but I promise, I'll do my best to deserve you." That feels like his heart spoke for him.
Devius smiled and pulled him into a hug. "No need to do your best because I know when someone deserves me or not and trust me, Cai, you do. You deserved me from top to bottom, inside and out." He joked followed by a little laugh.
Cameron breath a sigh of relief. Being able to tell Officer Chad about his past made him ease his burden. He felt a relief inside his chest. The officer's hug gave him comfort. The warmth from his body is making him feel safe and secure. Maybe the old man is right, someone will always be willing to stay beside him and fight the most challenging battle he has. For Cameron, Devius is that person. Devius is his comfort, he is both his shield and weapon. Someone who will protect him and whom he will also protect.
But all those good and soothing feeling he has inside his heart where all easily taken away after he spotted a familiar figure from not so far away. He couldn't be wrong, it was Red! He couldn't see his face but that long hooded black coat that was perfectly blending with the darkness of the night and the feeling of those eyes staring at him, he was sure. Before he could react, he felt his phone vibrating.
Detective Lee broke their hug and took out his phone. When he saw the familiar number flashed on the screen, he looked back to where he saw the figure and he was still there, hand lifted on his ear, waving at him.
"Cai, are you alright? Who's calling?" Devius asked.
"It's just Kairo Parker, I'll just talk to him for a moment. Wait for me here." Cameron lied as he stood up and moved to a distance.
He didn't take his eyes off of the figure's direction. He took a deep breath before finally pressing the answer button.
"Why do you look so hesitant, Detective?" Red's chuckling voice was heard from the other line.
"Why are you following me? What do you want?" Cameron asked but Red only laughed.
"Following you? Who said I'm following you?" He said in a teasing voice. "Oh! Wait, let me rephrase that. Who said it was you whom I am following?"
"You... You're not..."
"Bingo! By your reaction, I see you found it out really fast. I'm following Police Officer Devius Wayne Chad not you, Detective Lee." That's the only words he said but Detective Lee took it as a threat.
"Leave him alone. Don't you ever dare touch him!" He whisper shouted, trying his best so his partner won't notice him being tensed up. "If you dare touch him, I'll find you no matter where you run to."
"Oh, no. I ain't going to run anywhere because I'm busy chasing into something that belongs to me, Detective Lee." He said, now in a more serious but still teasing tone.
"You keep saying that something belongs to you, does it have anything to do with me?"
"It's a secret for now, detective."
"I don't even know you, how can I have something you own?" Cameron confusedly asked.
He heard the sound of his smirk. "You'll find out soon, Detective but for now, enjoy being with your new lover because you will never know how much time you have left to be with him." Then the line was cut again and the figure disappeared from the dark like a smoke in thin air in a blink of an eye.
Cameron felt confused and worried. Red's voice sounded really familiar but he couldn't remember where he heard it. The way he talks to him, everything he said about the thing that belongs to him, even the handkerchief are running all over his mind, making him insanely confused. Red's last words made him worried too.
"For now, enjoy being with your new lover because you will never know how much time you have left to be with him."

The Joy of Evolution
"Alright, so I have this idea, a completely original one by the way, never done before." I say. "Alright, lets hear it." You reply happily. "What if you got trapped in the body of a tentacle monster that looks like a virus in a world that is like a videogame, with skills and... whoops slip of the tendril there, what I meant to say is Mutations and Levels as you evolve your way up from being that lowly creature into a slightly better lowly creature, all the while, an evil devil person watches over you for entertainment purposes." I say making weird hand gestures across the table. "Oh and that main character used to be a human male and uses its past experience as one to survive in this new world as a little mass of flesh." I pull out a little ball with suction cup tendrils and show you. "So, what do you think?" " I dont know seems, a little sameish, I think Im gonna go." You say as you start to get up from your worn but still plush velvet chair. "Wait" I sigh, " I didnt want to do this but you leave me no choice, I promise you an extremely diverse harem..." The door closes as you leave. "They'll come back." I say hopeful. Cover: https://phil.cdc.gov/Details.aspx?pid=21073
