《Call Of Death》Chapter 48 : Freed?

Officer Chad and Detective Lee remained silent, without speaking to each other for almost three days. They will only talk if necessary and if Chief Simon is holding a meeting. They did the usual thing, investigating and going outside to study the case together but they barely spoke to each other. No matter how hard Devius tried to interact with his partner, it's Cameron who is distancing himself from the other. It's not because he's mad at Officer Chad but because he was busy observing himself. He doesn't want to just agree to accept Devius' suggestions if wasn't sure that he can handle it.
In Cameron's mind, he is getting ready for something he doesn't know if he could really do. The thing he is most afraid of—trusting someone. He doesn't want to ignore his partner but he has to be sure about his decision before finally talking to Officer Chad about it. Because once he decided to trust Devius, he also has to open up to him and tell him the truth behind his past. While they were driving in the middle of the road, he could feel the officer's eyes on him and then followed by the latter's sigh.
Only one question was running through Detective Lee's mind : Should he tell him or should he not?
The whole day passed without him talking much. He only asked some questions, suggest some strategies and exchanged information with Officer Chad. It's already afternoon and many people are walking to go home or run some errands. They've been outside investigating the whole day and their last destination was the headquarters before going back to the apartment. Yet Cameron still has something in his mind. He has been thinking about it all day and already decided to tell his story. He headed the car to a nearby park.
"Cai, why are we heading to the park? Do have an errand there?" Officer Chad confusedly asked.
Instead of answering, Detective Lee slowed down the car and looked for a place to park. The surrounding is starting to get dark and pretty lights are being turned on. The park is more beautiful at night time because of the colorful lights.

"Get down, let's take some walk." He told Devius to which the other followed, still feeling confused.
"Cai, why are we here? Aren't we supposed to go back to the headquarters?" Officer Chad queried.
Detective Lee just kept walking until they reached a bench. He sat on it while Devius leaned on a tree. The wind was blowing and playing with their hair and sending them a bit of chill because they're not wearing thick clothes. Detective Lee let out a sigh, he suddenly wasn't sure again if he was ready to tell the officer about everything. He trusts his partner but still worried.
"Cai, I'm getting really confused now. Can you tell me why we are in the park?" Officer Chad asked again.
Cameron crossed his legs and leaned on the bench. "You told me that you like me and that you can prove it, right? You said you don't care about my past, no matter what is it, right?"
The officer's face turned red upon the mention of his confession. "Y-Yes but why did you suddenly bring that up?"
"Then answer me, do you only like me or are you in love with me?" He asked him straight in the face.
Devius was puzzled for a while, processing what he just heard. His partner asking him that question seemed like an imagination for him.
"Cai, I..."
"Can you answer my question, Chad? Just answer me."
"W-Why are you suddenly asking me that? I suddenly feel shy." Devius scratched the back of his head, looking at his feet.
Detective Lee stood up and walked in front of his partner. When Officer Chad saw the pair of shoes in front of him, he lifted his face and their gaze met. Cameron was looking at him seriously, straight in the eye, making his heart go crazy.
"C-Cai..." He stammered.
"Devius Chad, please give me an answer." He said without blinking.
Love and like are two different things. Love can conquer all but like doesn't last long and it wasn't anything deep. The reason why Cameron was asking Devius whether he just likes him or if he loves him is because he needs to know if it was worth risking it all. He wanted to make sure that the officer's feelings for him is deep enough for him to trust. He only need one answer and that answer will decide whether he's going to tell Officer Devius Wayne Chad everything or if he will keep his past for himself forever.

Officer Chad felt confused about his partner's action and all the questions. "Cai, I'm so confused. What's happening? Are you alright?" He worriedly asked.
"Just answer me, no more questions. Do you only like me or do you love me? Was it like or was it love? Just simply tell me, please." Cameron repeated, placing his hands on both of his shoulders.
Officer Chad observed himself. The way his heart is beating fast, like a crazy horse running. The number of times he spent staring at Cameron's face every night when he's asleep. The way he couldn't forget the kiss and his soft, sweet lips. His eagerness to be with him and protect him at all cost. Thinking everything about that, he finally came up into an answer.
Devius removed Detective Lee's hand off his shoulder and he could clearly see the disappointment in the latter's eyes. But he wasn't going to make that last longer because hates seeing anything negative in those beautiful eyes. Officer Chad slowly lifted his hand to touch Cameron's face.
"I admit, I wasn't sure before about how deep this thing I have for you but after recalling everything I am finally sure with my feelings, Cai." He started, a curve of smile formed into his lips as he uttered the words, "Cameron Caiseus Lee, I am very sure now. I can finally say that I love you. And if you ask me how deep this love was? I'll tell you a million times that it was immeasurable."
Hearing those words coming out of the officer's mouth, Cameron felt his heart being caressed. It's as if a massive lump was taken away from his chest. I gave a sigh of relief. Detective Lee unconsciously smiled, holding Devius' hand on his face. Though his mind is still doubtful, Devius'sincerity had learned to tame his heart.
"Thank you for giving me that answer, Chad." And by that, he connected his lips with Devius.
A slow, truthful kiss. Filled with trust and honesty. Hearing the man's answer, for all his life, Cameron finally felt his heart trusting someone. He finally felt secured around the guy he never thought would be a part of his life. After that kiss, Detective Lee hugged Devius tightly. It's the kind of hug that is tight yet you wouldn't feel suffocated, instead you will feel security and openness. They spent some time being in that position. After some time, they both separated from each other. When their eyes met, they both chuckled.
"Cai, I didn't expect that but I like it." Devius said biting his lower lip.
Cameron slightly smiled and shook his head. "There are a lot of things I could do that you won't expect." He said.
"Yeah, you never failed me surprise me all the time, Detective Lee." Devius laughed.
They both sat on the bench. Officer Chad took a deep breath as he stares at the starry sky. Feeling Cameron's arm around his shoulder feels really good. It felt so good yet impossible like a dream. But it is nothing compared to how Cameron feels right that moment. It's like his heart was finally free from the chain it was locked in for so many years. His heart's trust towards the officer freed him from the wall he has been imprisoned for the longest time. Though he still can't give his full trust towards him, Cameron knows that time will come for that moment.

[Archive] Legend of the Nameless Hero
A WhiteSamurai original Web Novel There are always the mysterious tales of heroes, those who fight against the Demons, who fight for justice and those who head mighty quests against tyranny. Heroes that are born to destiny, Heroes that are forged through tragedy, and Heroes that are brought to the world in times of great peril and strife. Not all true Heroes are wanted or beloved, but all life understands, that throughout all time and space, for those who truly stand as Heroes, they never need to be called one. The sands of time are the only true judge for those who journey upon the true path, the only one they will ever need. This is the tale, no, the Legend, the Legend of the one who throughout all time, would forever be, the First Hero. This is Their story, a story of true hardship, of a sorrow greater than any other that would stand as a symbol of inspiration no matter the test of time. A tale of darkness, a true curse, an impending evil hidden beyond the horizons that threatened the very future of existence. This is the tale, of one of the few great figures, who, in the face of true evil, continued to stand. . . . _______________________________________________________________ :Disclaimer: _______________________________________________________________ . . . All Chapters are subject to sudden revision, scrapping, or complete removal from the canonical storyline. The author of "Legend of the Nameless Hero" uses RoyalRoad as a method of experimentation with genre's and writing styles for Fantasy-style works for the sake of eventual publication. The end result isn't to release perfect chapters on RoyalRoadl, but eventually develop the story as intended using the best material to produce the highest quality work. The best mentality when reading works from WhiteSamurai is to see it as the ability to read and review pre-release transcripts or "Rough Copies" before publication. Viewer discretion and maturity are both requested and required. . . . _______________________________________________________________ :About: _______________________________________________________________ . . . This story follows direct character point of views along with an intentional third person narrative to explain to the readers what the characters won't. (I don't use my characters to go give extensive explanations for every last thing like EVERYTHING DOES) This tale shall encompass the life of the Hero from the moment she is summoned into the Kingdom of Kremor, to the Legendary Final Clash. This isn't your run of the mill hack and slash raise an army and conquer, I don't follow that bandwagon. Real life holds politics, intrigue, economics, structure, populations, civil opinions, history, psychology, heart, suffering, wonder, advancement, curiosity, ambition, and so many more things that would lead to me hitting some character limit. I refuse to take the same route that others use by simply ignoring these factors, my worlds, my stories, are as real as they get. There's no plot armor here, if someone screws up, they've screwed up and there's no magical sword in a well for them. I write in 'Seasons' not 'Books' as many often do, these are generally, not always, hundreds of chapters long, though as I have yet to finish a season, the average length is in the air. I go by an ideal of what I call 'Universal Lore' which includes the policy that things that exist within the story don't follow the rule where the Protagonist needs to be there so that it will happen. There will be some things that will happen, and the hero, and sometimes the reader, won't know happened until they enter a place, or news gets to them. A person needs to be in the right place at the right time, I hate plot holes and meta characters above all else... For my works, comments are practically demanded as reactions, thoughts, and various viewpoints are like sweet fuel to my writing spirit. Reviews are highly accepted and appreciated, BUT ONLY IF THEY ARE EDUCATED AND THOROUGHLY EXPLAINED. Those that throw down a low rating ARE HIGHLY REQUESTED to extensively detail and explain their viewpoints on the work. They should also be willing to come back to the work at a later date if messaged by the Author, Me, due to issues they mentioned being taken care of. I'm never against scrapping a chapter or rewriting several paragraphs if there are character or story discrepancies. I want the highest quality work possible, and every comment, every review, are tools for me to use to further that goal. . . . Enjoy the work. ~White Status: (Ongoing)
