《Call Of Death》Chapter 43 : Almost

After spending a several boring days at the hospital, Officer Devius Chad was finally discharged. Detective Cameron Lee was the one who picked him up because Daena is busy with her schoolworks and some of their colleagues can't go either. While both men were walking on the hallway of the hospital, Cameron couldn't get his mind off of everything that happened the day and after he passed out. Detective Lee has been investigating alone about this guy named Red after he confessed that he was the man behind the black coat.
Since Officer Chad was in the hospital for almost a week, he didn't bother to tell him what he found out about the mystery caller because he doesn't want to stressed his partner out. Cameron always kept the piece of paper on his pocket. Fortunately, he found it on the table in Devius' room. He tried investigating about the name written on it but it's not an easy job. He couldn't find anything related to or a person named Lee Jin Hong aside from the high school student who died.
On the other hand, Officer Chad was busy thinking about the man who shot him. Because of what happened, he's also starting to suspect that Red knows something behind it. When he turned to Detective Lee, he saw that he was deep in thought. Both his hands are on his pocket while the bag was hanged on his shoulder.
"Cai, you seemed spacing out, is there a problem?" Devius asked.
Detective Lee turned to him and shook his head. "I'll tell you when we get to the apartment." He explained.
"But, can I asked you something?" Officer Chad crossed his arms.
"What is it?"
"What really happened that day when I found you unconsciously leaning on the wall?" He couldn't remember how many times he had ask Detective Lee that question but he couldn't get any answer.
All he's saying is, "Nothing, I just felt dizzy and I passed out."
It's against Detective Lee's knowledge that Devius already know that it wasn't the reason. Someone, a guy wearing a black coat has something to do with what happened to his senior. According to the people he saw there, they told him that a man wearing a black coat was standing next to him before he passed out. Devius just don't want to force his partner on saying it because he knew he had his reason why he's not telling him about the real incident.
But the fact that that person came to see Cameron is bothering Devius. He doesn't know what could possibly happen next. That guy who's dressed in all black, no one can tell whether he's an ally or an enemy.
"But, Cai-"
"Let's talk about it when we get to the apartment. According to the doctor, you still have to take some rest. Come on, get in the car." Detective Lee ordered, Officer Chad silently followed.
"Cai-"
"Don't talk until we get to the apartment." Detective Lee cut his sentence and started the engine.

"Listen to me first, Cai, I-"
"Devius Wayne Chad, stop being stubborn and keep quiet. I'm not talking to you until we got to the apartment." Cameron repeated without turning to his partner.
"But, Detective Lee-"
"Devius." Cameron looked at him with a serious look.
Officer Chad pouted his lips like a child being ignored by his mother when he wanted to buy something. Usually, Detective Lee would feel annoyed but for some reason, he couldn't take his eyes off of the guy beside him. It took him some time before he could focus again to the road and avoid getting into an accident.
"Detective Lee..." Officer Chad tagged Detective Lee's sleeve but he didn't respond.
"..."
"Cai..."
When he heard Devius called him again, he hit the break of the car and turned to him with a grim face. He sighed and raised his eyebrow.
"You're so stubborn, huh?" He said.
Devius smiled awkwardly and scratched the back of his head. "I was just going to tell you that I didn't eat anything yet and it's already nine in morning... I'm hungry." He shyly explained.
Detective Lee looked at his partner with confused face. "You're hungry?"
Officer Chad nodded. "Uhm, yeah."
Cameron sighed. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Huh? You wouldn't even let me finish my sentence, how can I tell you?" Devius complained.
"Well, then I'll buy you some food." Detective Lee parked the car properly and got out of it. "What do you want to eat?"
"Anything is fine."
"Alright. Just wait here, I'll be back quickly." He said and got out the car.
Officer Chad couldn't stop himself from smiling as he watched his partner walking inside a nearby store. Even if Cameron is like an old man when he acts most of the time, he still couldn't hide his caring side towards this guy. Even if he gets annoyed most of the time, he couldn't help himself from getting soft towards Devius, especially after he risk his life to save him. After buying some bread and coffee, Cameron finally returned to the car and he was greeted by a smiling Devius.
"Here, eat this for now. I'll cook something for you when we get home." He handed him the food.
"Thank you, Cai." Officer Chad happily accepted it.
"Next time, if you're hungry just tell me and don't beat around the bush." Detective Lee said as he restart the engine and started driving.
"Okay, sir." Devius responded with a smile and started munching into his food.
The drive was about half an hour because some part of the road was traffic. When they finally reach the front of their apartment, Cameron went to open the door for Officer Chad.
"Thank you, Cai but I'm not a lady, you don't have to open the door for me." He smiled.
"Tss! A thank you is enough not need to speak too much." Detective Lee stated and begun heading towards the building.

Officer Chad shook his head and followed his partner. Upon reaching their floor, he glanced at Michael's apartment door. They still don't have any clue about the kid's mother's whereabouts or if she was safe. It's almost two months already since they started the investigation about the killer caller murder case but they still got not enough information.
"Don't worry, we'll find them soon." He heard Cameron's voice.
Devius sighed. "I hope so, Cai. I hope we could still save Michael's mother." He gave him a bitter smile.
Detective Lee patted his shoulder and gestured him to get inside. Just like Cameron said, he cooked some food for Devius when they got inside their apartment. He prepared some chicken soup and vegetables because it will help Devius' wound to heal completely.
After eating, Cameron washed up and prepared to go out. There's no time to rest. He has to return to their headquarters to meet Chief Simon for a meeting. But he was surprised when he went out of the bathroom because Officer Chad was already dress.
"Uh, what are you doing?" Cameron asked.
Devius looked at him with confusion. "What do you mean?"
"Why are you all dressed up?" He clarified.
"Why else? I'm going with you, we have a meeting right?" Devius replied.
"No, you have to take some rest according to the doctor." Cameron declined.
"I'm fine now, I already got out of the hospital, didn't I? I can't just sit here and do nothing, Cai. Trust me, I can work now." Officer Chad stubbornly said.
Detective Lee could only sigh and give up because he knew how stubborn his partner is. Devius won't listen to him even if he told him to rest, he would surely do as he pleased. Cameron didn't say anything more and just let Devius do as he pleased. Both men got ready and then left the apartment.
When they reached the headquarters, they were greeted by all their colleagues as soon as they walked in and as usual, Devius greeted them back. After that, they both headed to Chief Simon's office for the meeting. She was in her usual spot, sitting on her chair and reading some documents but when she saw the pair, she greeted them with a smile and gestured them to sit.
"How's your wound, Officer Chad?" Chief Simon asked in a concerned voice.
"Nothing to worry about, Chief, I'm all good now." Devius reassuringly smiled.
"That's good. What about you, Cameron? You won't even smile." She turned to Detective Lee.
"I'm fine, Chief. This is my normal expression, nothing to worry about." He simply answered, his superior nodded.
"Then, let's start the discussion." Chief Simon ordered.
"Wait, Chief, where's Detective Parker?" Officer Chad questioned.
"Oh. Kairo is out, he said he has to do something. He won't be joining the meeting today." Sara explained to which Devius only nodded in response.
After that conversation, Detective Lee stood up and showed something on the glass board. Written there were some new names and words. The exact day and estimated time of when Officer Chad was shot is also written on the board. Everything is connected by an arrow. Devius stared at the glass board, trying to figure out something. He wasn't very updated since he was advised to rest while at the hospital and Cameron didn't discuss anything when he visits him, so he doesn't know much after the night he was shot.
"The day when we were at the bar, two guys came to us. One aimed his gun on me and the other shot you, Devius. I didn't see the other's face but I clearly saw the one who aimed the gun on me, I already asked Detective Parker to find him." Detective Lee explained as he encircle the things related to what he was saying. "The killer caller murder case is also connected to a man wearing a black coat and he could also be the same man who informed the police about the lastest victim, Lee Jin Hong." He encircled everything involved, Officer Chad and Chief Simon stayed quiet and just listened.
"Wait, Cam. This guy in a black coat you're talking about, is he the one that was often seen before the murder happened?" Chief Simon queried, Cameron nodded.
"And that guy I'm referring to, his name is Red... the same guy who kept texting me riddles before and the one who called me and gave me the information about the bar." Cameron added.
Officer Chad looked at Cameron in surprise after hearing he said. "What?"
"That's right, Chad. Red is the guy behind the black coat." Detective Lee muttered.
"Wait. Are you saying that Red is the culprit?" Devius asked, confused.
"If he's the culprit, were not sure yet but he admitted to me himself that he was the man behind the black coat." Detective Lee explained.
"Then, if he's telling the truth, the mysterious black coat man is already identified and he was Red. All we have to do now is find out who Red is, right?" Chief Simon stood up and pointed at the photos on the glass board.
"Yes, Chief. We have to find out his real identity. His name, origin, age and his connection to the series of murders." Detective Lee agreed.
"But for now, the both of you should take a rest, maybe at least two days." Chief Simon pointed at them, Cameron was about to refuse but his superior gave him the face that they have no other choice but obey her.
After the meeting was dismissed, both Officer Chad and Detective Lee went back to the car. Even if Cameron wanted to work, looking at his partner, he has no choice but to get some rest too. It's also a win-win situation for him because he could use his time to rest and investigate more about Lee Jin Hong. He haven't told anyone yet about the piece of paper. Maybe not now but he will surely have to report it to Chief Simon. Without further a do, Detective Lee drove back to their apartment.
