《Call Of Death》Chapter 3 : A Tough Yet Vulnerable Man

Detective Cameron Lee kept sighing as he sat down on the chair inside Chief Simon's office. The frown drew in his face didn't vanish a bit since earlier.
"Chief, do I really have to go? You know I hate crowded places. I can take any mission as long as I'm outside." Detective Cameron Lee has been asking the same question for half an hour after being told by his commanding officer to go to some kind of party that is to be held tonight at some bar.
"Detective Lee, you have to go. You have to go and stop asking the same question because I feel like my eardrum will explode anytime soon." She answered.
"But, Chief..."
"Cameron Caiseus, this is a mission that I'm entrusting to you and you only."
"Chief, are you sure this is not just some trick to make me go to the bar and have some fun?" He suspiciously asked.
Chief Simon took a deep breath and faced him. "Actually, that's one of the reasons. But it's also a mission, Cameron. I got a tip that something is going to happen at the party tonight. You know I trust you more than anyone, that's why I'm asking you to do this mission for me." Chief Simon said it the way he's not going to be able to say no.
"What kind of tip? And who gave you?"
"Detective Parker was the one who told me but I don't know who his informant is." Chief Simon answered.
"Detective Kairo Sedis Parker?"
"Yes. The one and only."
Detective Lee wrinkled his brows and sighed. He really doesn't want to go but if Chief Simon is telling the truth that something is going to happen at the party, he can't risk anyone's safety. He just sighed once again and gave a salute at his commanding officer before leaving the office. He went to his car to go home and take a bath.
When he arrived home, he immediately went to the bathroom and took off his clothes before turning the shower on and letting the water flow through his body. The water is cold but he got used to it unlike before that he often flinch every time the water touches him. After taking a bath and cleaning his body, he dried himself up and wrapped a towel around his waist. He stood up in front of the smoky mirror and stared at his reflection.

'Dang it.'
He sighed at how restless his face looked like. His hair has grown long and his beard has grown thicker. He have eye bags and his eyes look like he haven't slept for a century. He brushed his hair with his fingers and took the shaving cream. He put some on his face before shaving his beard with a blade. After that, he took a pair of scissors and begun cutting his own hair. He put an eye drop to his eyes to remove the redness and massage his eye bags. He looked at the mirror and he nodded in satisfaction. At least, he looked presentable again. After cleaning his face, he brushed his teeth and went out the bathroom.
We walk to his small closet and stared at his old and faded clothes for five minutes. When he was about to just pick any of that, he heard a knock on his door so he went to open it.
"Who are you?"
"Are you Detective Cameron Caiseus Lee?" A young man asked.
He nodded. "Yes, what do you want?"
"Uhm... someone asked me to deliver this to you." He handed him a box.
"What is this?" He asked while wrinkling his forehead.
The young man shrugged. "Someone just asked me to send it to your address, sir. Can you sign this for me, please?" The boy reached out a piece of paper and a pen.
"Here." He handed them back.
"Thank you, sir." He bowed before leaving.
He closed the door and looked at the box with confusion. He sat on the bed and begun unwrapping it. When the mystery inside the box is finally revealed, he became more confused. Inside the box were black jeans, grey turtleneck clothing, a suit and a pair of black chukka boots. Under everything is a note.
(Wear this so they won't suspect you and get alarmed. Also, I know you would wear your old clothes and that wouldn't fit the party. Goodluck, Cameron! - Sara Simon)
When he read that, he just sighed because he knew he could do nothing but wear them. When he finally fixed everything, he looked at himself in the mirror and almost couldn't recognize who owns the reflection he was looking at. He looks like his just twenty-one because of the every changes he made. The outfit look good on him too.

"Cameron Lee, I never know you could be handsome like this?" He said to his reflection, sighing and shaking his head.
He just fixed some mess inside his apartment before going out.
"Hey, looking good, huh?" When he went down from his apartment, Chief Simon is already waiting for him outside.
"You sent me an uncomfortable outfit, Chief." He said.
She just smiled and shook her head. "You should know how handsome you are when you get yourself dressed. Don't overwork yourself too much and take care of that handsome face you have. Get yourself a wife too. You can't live alone all your life." She teased.
"Get a wife? In my profession, I should not have any family because I'll only put their lives in danger. Also, I don't want to have any weaknesses that my enemies can use against me."
"Alright, you said so. But trust me, you can never resist it once your heart has already decided."
Detective Lee just shrugged. "Why are you here anyway? Will you come with me?" He asked.
"No, I'm just here to give you your car." She tossed him a car key making him look at her with confusion.
"I have my car."
"Nuh. You're not going there with your old, ragged car, Cameron." She shook her head and then pointed to a direction.
"My car is fine."
"Yeah, you always say that to your old belongings but you have to trust me this time."
"But, Chief—"
"Shush! You're going there with that baby and no buts." His eyes went wide when he saw what his commanding officer is pointing at. "That's a goddamn Rolls Royce Sweptail!"
"Yes, and it's yours for tonight."
"What!?"
"That's yours and I love your face when you're shocked, you looked so handsome."
"There's no way in hell am I using that." He refused.
"Cameron Lee."
"Chief, how the hell did you even manage to get that?" He asked with confusion, really refusing to take the offer. "I can't."
"Tss. Don't worry about anything. It's a gift from a friend, cool yeah?"
"Gift from a friend? That costs a lot of money!" He gave her a look that made her darken her eyes.
"I'm not doing anything illegal, Lee. Just trust me and get in there." She ensured him.
He looked at her while furrowing his eyebrows. "You're suspecting that the tip is about drugs, aren't you?" He asked.
Chief Song smiled. "As I was expecting. You're a genius. Yes, that's why I want everyone to think that you're some rich businessman." She explained.
"Now, I understand. I'll never let you down, Chief. I'll do this mission like the others. I'm going then." He took the keys and hopped in the car.
Chief Simon just smiled while looking at the now moving car. She trusts Detective Lee a lot but sometimes she feels worried about him. It's because even if he looks tough, she knows how vulnerable he is.
"Chief, why didn't you tell him the truth about the tip I gave you?" She paused when Detective Parker spoke from behind.
She smiled and faced him. "Kairo, if I told him that someone is going to die at the party, he wouldn't be that calm." She explained.
Detective Kairo Parker nodded. "Do you want me to follow him? Just so I could make sure he's safe." He suggested.
Chief Simon nodded with a smile. "You do that. I know Cameron is the best in his job but just to make sure, please don't take your eyes off of him."
"You really care for him, Chief, don't you?"
"He's a vulnerable man, Kairo."
"I know, Chief. I'll get going then." Detective Parker saluted before getting in his car and driving away.
Chief Simon sighed but she couldn't tell if it's a sigh of relief or something else. She knows that even if Detective Lee acts all tough, he is still a child inside. He's thirty but a child is hiding inside the deepest part of his heart and he's been suppressing it inside. She's trying her best to make him just live like a normal person just like others, but she also knew that this is his way of protecting himself. She smiled once again before taking a taxi to return to the station.

And considering even Death itself didn't stop him, he pities whoever gets in his way. ================== Tags: Naruto, Reincarnation, OC, eventual multi-cross. ================== Author's (Brief) Note: Back by popular demand. This was my first significant fanfic (and fic in general). I wasn't happy with the writing as time went on, and took it down, but years later am still getting requests to put it back up so I guess some people liked it. Newly re-released as I finish some minor editing, there are about 100,000 words (~360 RRL pages) already written, so releases should be fast until I catch up with the backlog. That said, it may languish in hiatus at that point if the interest isn't high enough to merit continuing, so if you're the type to only read finished stories (or ones where the author promises to do so), I am very specifically not promising that. On the other hand, if enough people read, like, review, comment, rate, etc. then it will get added to my writing schedule. Generally, the character is based on a “how badass could someone who hasn't done ridiculously crazy shit be? Or, how does someone with the potential, in another setting, with a lot of luck, to be a badass act and develop as a modern, productive member of society? And then how would they deal with the Naruto-verse?” Please, please do not judge my writing by this. Unless you really like it, in which case fine, do, but recognize my other writing is likely better (unless it’s that one MTG/ASoIaF/SW fic I did over on SB as a speed-writing experiment, which is also pretty terrible).
