《The Monster Inside ➺ Scott. M》Chapter 46

There will be mentions of the 'Peaky Blinders' (A British Gang) in this chapter as they will be a major part of Stella's past. Although I based it more on the show than the real gang, you do not have to watch it as I will not be following it's plot. I am only using the characters which will be described in the future chapters. Also, Nimah Shelby is not a character in the show.
1922, Birmingham, London
slim, ginger woman walked along the busy roads of Birmingham. The streets were full of beggars, filth and small children running around - it was chaos.
Stella didn't know what happened in the last few years of her life; she only knew she wasn't human anymore. She was a vampire who started having trouble with controlling her hunger after leaving New Orleans; her home. Home which she had to flee from for unknown reasons; she didn't feel safe there anymore, even though there were no known threats.
Something kept her away from New Orleans and she didn't know what. What she also didn't know was who turned her. All she remembered from that night was gunshots and a faceless figure which Fed her blood. It was a dark night.
Stella was determined to find what happened to her during the years she had no memory of. One day, she was going to accomplish her quest - No matter how long it took her. She was determined and wasn't willing to give up.
At that moment, Stella was truly lost and the only way to find her way back again, was to get her memories back. There must be a way and Stella was going to find that way - No matter the cost. She would do anything to find herself.
Stella knew what compulsion was, she also knew that the vampire who compelled her to forget everything did a terrible job. She still saw glimpses of people from her past, although the figures were blurry and voices distorted. It seemed like the mysterious vampire wanted her to remember some things.
She sighed loudly and closed her eyes in annoyance when she felt water enter her shoe. The bottom of her dress was soaked and dirty from the puddle she stepped in. What else did she expect? This was England - it rained a lot.
She looked up and forced a smile to appear on her face as she walked through the crowds of introverted people; eventually making it to a pub. As soon as she entered the warm pub, the smell of cigarettes made her want to throw up. The smell always did and always will disgust her.
Most eyes were instantly on her. Most people in the city knew each other so everyone knew she was new. She sat on one of the stools and soon the barman walked towards her with a friendly smile "what can I get ya, dear?" He asked as he cleaned a glass with a white cloth.
Stella smiled back at him pleasantly "whiskey, please." She spoke gently.
The middle aged man nodded and turned around to pour her some whiskey. During that time, a young man with peaked flat cap on his head sat down next to her. He wore a charming, flirtatious smile; too bad she was lesbian.
Stella smiled at him and looked over her shoulder when she heard someone wolf whistle. A few tables behind her sat a group of people. An older woman, smoking a cigarette along with two young, brunette women. With them sat three men, also wearing the caps. Couples? No... family.

She turned back to look at the man beside her "hello." She said politely. The man smiled even wider when he heard her accent. "What can I do for you?" She asked. The barman then placed the glass of whiskey in front of her. Using her vampire smell, she checked if any pills were added to her drink; thankfully, that wasn't the case. However, she still put her hand over the top of her glass; preventing any substances from entering the glass.
The man smiled politely at her "no, but I can help you." He said in his thick, British accent. "You're new, right?" He asked. She nodded with a smile. "John Shelby." He said and extended his hand towards her.
Stella smiled, the man was polite; something she loved. However, there was something weird about him. A certain type of danger surrounded his aura. "Stella Allen." She answered and shook his hand gently.
The man's smile didn't fade "want to sit with my family?" He questioned. Stella shook her head while she politely declined. He grabbed her wrist gently "this place is dangerous... especially when you know no one." He explained "we can give you protection if you'd like." He smiled at her.
Stella chuckled and pulled her wrist away. "I can protect myself, thank you. " she argued.
The man smiled wider "I don't doubt that... but you might need some friends. Unless you want to be alone." He chuckled.
Stella rolled her eyes but the smile on her face remained "fine. Let's sit with your family."
The man smiled, happy that he managed to persuade the ginger girl. He stood up along with Stella who still kept a hold on her glass. The two walked towards the table and sat down. "I'm back." He announced to his family.
A man with a moustache smiled "we can see, John. We're not blind." He said sarcastically and then drank his drink.
John glared at him "this is Stella Allen from..." He paused when he realised he did not know where the girl was from.
"New Orleans." She told the group with a smile. Her smile faded when she noticed the older woman glaring at her; a woman with trust issues.
John noticed this and decided to introduce each of them. "This is Polly Gray. My aunt." He said as he pointed at the older woman. She wore a beautiful black dress and her dark hair was neatly placed in a bun.
"My sister Ada Shelby" John pointed at his younger sister. The girl had short dark hair and wore a hat. The girl politely smiled at Stella; she seemed nice and warm.
"My other sister Nimah Shelby." He said. She was a beautiful, young, brunette girl with ocean-blue eyes. She smiled warmly at the ginger girl.
"My oldest brother Arthur Shelby - a drunk who loves cocaine." He added, making Stella chuckle slightly. The man with a moustache smiled at Stella slightly.
"Tommy Shelby - My other brother." He added as Stella's eyes landed on a man younger than Arthur. He had a sharp jaw and cold blue eyes. He had the look many soldiers had - the look of someone who's seen too much.
"And lastly, Michael Gray - Polly's son." He said as Stella's eyes landed on the youngest man on the table.

Stella smiled once everyone was introduced "It's a pleasure to meet you all." She smiled politely.
Polly leaned on the table and Stella instantly knew what that meant; her interrogation was about to begin. "You say you're from..."
"New Orleans." She said, her smile never leaving her face.
"What's it like?" Nimah asked curiously.
Stella smiled at her fond memories of New Orleans "It's amazing." She simply answered "the city itself is beautiful. But the people are also amazing." She said with a massive smile as she talked passionately.
"If you say you love the city so much, then why'd you move here?" Tommy, The man with cold blue eyes questioned with suspicion. "To Birmingham of all places..."
Stella looked down as she thought... it was the question she didn't know the answer to. "To be completely honest... I have no idea. I can't remember the last five years of my life." She admitted, knowing that it was better not to lie.
"And why is that?" The older woman, Polly, asked.
Stella furrowed her eyebrows "I can't remember why..." She said, trying not to sound like an asshole.
Nimah smiled at her "It's Okay, right auntie? It's not your fault." She assured Stella with a gentle smile on her face.
Stella smiled back "thank you."
The group then chatted for at least an hour. An hour of finding out about Birmingham and the family. It was the family everyone feared; leaders of the Peaky Blinders gang. A gang no one dared to oppose. Along with doing their illegal and legal work, they protected people and got money in return. Of course, they asked Stella if she needed that but she politely declined, even though they insisted.
Their laughs soon died down, especially the men's when they looked behind Stella. "Is everything alright?" She questioned.
Nimah sighed loudly "You seem to have caught Mr. Smith's eye." She commented. "The local drunk." She explained.
Stella turned around and, unfortunately, made eye contact with the slightly older man. He smirked at her; a smirk she hated. She also hated how men of that generation thought they could do whatever they pleased. But Stella was about to show him otherwise.
The drunk man took a step closer and the Peaky Blinders tensed, ready to stop the man. They would not let him assault her in their presence. Not when Polly began liking her... kind of. "Hey... wanna have some fun with me?" He asked as he rolled his hips, making Stella frown at the man's stupidity.
Even though Stella really wanted to punch him, she decided to stay polite "I must decline your... tempting offer." She faked a smile as Ada and Nimah chuckled. "Also, I don't think your wife would appreciate that." She commented when she saw the golden ring on his finger.
The man laughed "I don't care what that bitch thinks. Her place is at home... looking after the kids while I have fun." He laughed.
Stella's eye twitched as she stood up abruptly, catching everyone off guard. Everyone in the pub was now staring at her curiously. Nimah shook her head, telling her to back down.
Stella pushed her chair under the table and glared at the man. "Listen here, you pathetic excuse of a man. I don't know what makes you think you have the right to treat your hard-working wife like that, but you should stop acting that way." She said. Her demeanour then turned into a dangerous one as her voice dropped down an octave and she spoke in a dangerous tone "before you get hurt."
The man took a few steps forward, now only a metre away from Stella. The Peaky Blinders watched curiously; especially Polly. It was rare for a woman to stand up for herself and insult a man. "Are you threatening me?" The man questioned.
Stella smiled "so what if I am?"
The man growled. The Peaky Blinders all stood up, ready to jump in if the argument escalated. "I think you need to be put back in your place... little girl." He spat.
Stella smiled widely "try me." She told him.
The man raised his hand and was about to slap her but she caught his large, sweaty hand mid-air. She twisted it behind his back and pushed him against the table. She pulled his arms further, close to breaking the bones as his face was squashed against the table. He was lucky she didn't use her vampire strength on him.
The entire pub watched the scene in both amazement and surprise; people rarely stood up to drunk Tim. "If you ever speak to me..." She began speaking "or any lady like this ever again... I will make sure you won't be able to reproduce anymore." She said through gritted teeth. "Understand?" She asked.
The man didn't answer, he stayed quiet. "I asked you a question." She said and pulled his arm further. Everyone winced when one of the bones popped and Drunk Tim cried from the pain. "Do you understand, sir?" She questioned once again.
The man cried in her grip "I understand. I really do!" He exclaimed.
Stella smiled and let go of him. He quickly got up and ran out of the pub. He was now going to be the laughing stock of this city as he was beaten by a girl.
Stella's kind demeanour returned as she turned around to look at the amazed Peaky Blinders. "It was nice meeting you all." She commented. "But I must get going. I'll see you around." She smiled and also walked out of the bar. Now no one was going to touch her; she didn't need the protection of the Peaky Blinders.

The weirdest stuff always happens when you least expect it. You go from making a living hunting the strangest of beast in the wild lands, then one day you are somewhere unknown. With buildings stabbing into the sky higher than the tallest pine. Crossbows shooting repeatedly and faster than before. Men incapable of wielding swords or their fighting is like two kids fighting. Things just doesn't get strange for me. They get downright depressing. I lost my bella to things that can turn the newly dead into walking creatures once again. Having to put her down after failing to do your due diligences as man is something I thought I would never have to do. Who do I have to complain to? Who do I seek revenge against?
