《Saving Gracie | ✓》Chapter Fifty Four: Look In Your Bedroom.

"Grace, you know I can't arrest him without any proof. A lot of people have came into this police station telling us that about someone and saying all this stuff about him but without any proof, I can't do a thing. I mean, I am not saying that I don't believe you, it's just... I need proof to do something." Jackson explains and Nicole and I share a look, frowns etched on our faces.

"Jackson, please. You had James before when he murdered my father so why isn't he in jail?" I ask and Jackson sighs.

"Again, we had no proof. Three guys around your age came in here doing the exact same thing you are doing now. So, we brought James in for questioning and when we had no proof, we let him go." Jackson explains and I let out a frustrated sigh.

"You police officers make so many people angry, you know that?" I ask and Jackson nods.

"Sadly yes but we are just doing our jobs. We don't make the rules, we just enforce them. That's all." Jackson says and Nicole taps my shoulder. I look over at her and she waves her hand closer to her. I excuse myself from Jackson and he just nods. I walk over to where Nicole is wanting me to stand and she stands in front of me, her back to Jackson.

"You know how we need proof?" Nicole asks and I nod. "I know how to give him it." Nicole says and she points to her eye where the bruise is. "I'm going to say it was James. I'll make up a story and hopefully, it will be enough to get Jackson to arrest James for the murder of your father, the kidnapping and for everything else that he has done." Nicole says and my eyes widen.

"But what if they find out that your father actually did that?" I ask, pointing to her eye and Nicole shakes her head.

"The only way they will be able to get proof that my father actually did it is to ask him and I know my father won't confess. He will have to say no if he doesn't want to go to court for child abuse." Nicole says and my mouth goes into the shape of an 'o' as everything makes perfect sense. I may know the truth but Jackson doesn't. The story is believable but I just have to hope that Nicole makes up a story that puts the last piece of the puzzle in its place.

"Are you sure?" I ask and Nicole nods.

"Positive." Nicole says and I let out a sigh before walking over to Jackson. Nicole stands beside me and I turn to her, my eyes widening slightly, hoping that she gets the message. Nicole nods and turns to Jackson.

"I have the proof you need." Nicole says and Jackson's eyes widen in surprise. He turns around and motions us to follow. I notice that we are going to the interrogation room.

Fingers crossed that this works...

"So, your telling me that when you went to go and confront James about the kidnapping of Grace, Luke and Bennet, he punched you a few times, which caused the bruise, and after that, he ran off?" Jackson asks and Nicole nods.

"And before that, I asked him if he killed Grace's father and he didn't deny it or anything. That's what I decided to confront him about the kidnapping." Nicole says and Jackson nods. He grabs a sheet of paper out and slides it across the table, handing it to Nicole.

"I know you just told me what happened but I need you to write a statement about what happened. Start from the very end and finish to the part where he ran away." Jackson says, also handing Nicole a pen and Nicole nods, beginning to write down her statement.

"Grace, can I have a word with you outside?" Jackson asks and I nod, standing up from my chair. When Jackson walks over to the door, I look back at Nicole to see her send me a small smile before mouthing 'your welcome' to me. Before I can even send her a smile, Jackson coughs and I turn around, walking out of the room. Jackson closes the door and crosses his hands across his chest.

"Are you sure about everything? Are you absolutely positive that James is the killer?" Jackson asks and I nod.

"Who else could it lead to? Trust me... James is definitely the person who killed my father. I'm sure of it." I say and Jackson nods.

"Okay, well, after Nicole is finished writing he statement, I'll go and look for James." Jackson says and I smile.

"Thank you. Your a good cop." I say and Jackson chuckles, flipping his imaginary long hair.

"You don't have to tell me twice." Jackson says and I let out a laugh.

"No, I don't."

After Nicole finished her statement, we decided to head back to school. We probably had three or so hours left of school left but we both decided that it was best to not miss anymore days of school.

Honestly, if it wasn't for Nicole's smarts and my idea to bring Jackson into the whole thing, we would still be at square one: finding out a way to out James behind bars. If what Nicole said didn't work, I literally would have been doomed. I wouldn't have any ideas and I don't think Nicole would've either.

I sit down at the table and place my tray of lasagna in front of me. Nicole takes her seat next to me and Luke sits on the other side of me. To be honest, it is a little wierd to have Nicole and Luke at the same table together but they just have to get over it.

Suddenly, a guy comes up to the table and rests his hands on it, looking down at Nicole. I look up at the guy to see that he looks a little familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

"Nicole," The guy says, grabbing Nicole's attention. When the guy sees the bruise, his features soften. "Can we talk?" The guy asks and Nicole narrows her eyes at the guy. I look over at Luke in question and he shrugs, looking between Nicole and the guy.

"You think that after everything you did to me, I would just let you come back into my life? Please, I'm better than that." Nicole says, her confidence rising and the guy raises his eyebrow at her.

"Who do you think your talking to?" The guy asks and all of a sudden, everything hits me like a rock.

Nicole's ex boyfriend! Wait, why would he want to talk to Nicole now?

"A player who can't keep his dick in his pants, of course. Now, please leave." Nicole says, looking back at her phone that is on the table and Derek, Nicole's ex boyfriend, rolls his eyes and walks off.

"Slut!" He shouts and Nicole rises from her seat. I watch as she sends Derek a hard glare.

"I'm not the one sleeping with everything that has a heartbeat, you man whore!" Nicole shouts and the kids in the cafeteria begin to laugh and shout. I hear a few people whistle in encouragement and Nicole sits back down in her seat, a sigh escaping her mouth.

"God, I hate him." Nicole mumbles and I chuckle.

"I think you just showed everyone exactly that." I say and Nicole cracks a smile. I look over at Luke to see him leaning in his chair, looking around at everyone in the cafeteria. I frown in confusion and look back down at my tray to see exactly why Luke looks so smug.

"You stole my food!" I say and Luke turns to me and shakes his head.

"How do you know it was me? It could've been anyone." Luke says and I shake my head.

"Why else would you have that look on your face?" I say and Luke shrugs.

"Maybe because I am currently loving life..." Luke says and I narrow my eyes at Luke.

"Admit it, you stole my food." I say and Luke shakes his head.

"I would never admit to something I never did." Luke says and I let out a growl before standing up.

"I'll be back. I'm going to get some food." I say before leaving Nicole and Luke alone at the table. Once I am standing in the line, I glance back to see Nicole talking to Luke. I furrow my eyebrows and begin to get curious.

What could they be talking about?

After grabbing my food, I walk back to the table and hear Nicole continue to talk. "You have to do it soon. You don't want to make her disappointed." Nicole says and just as I reach the table, Nicole looks up at me and smiles, standing up.

"I'm going to the bathroom." Nicole says and before I can even react, she walks off and I furrow my eyebrows at Luke.

"What were you two talking about?" I ask and Luke shrugs.

"Nothing special." Luke says and before I can push on it further, Luke's phone begins to ring. I frown at him and he shows me the screen to see that it is his mom.

Perfect timing, Bree...

"I'll be back." Luke says before standing up and walking towards the cafeteria doors. My frown deepens and I look down at my food.

What are they hiding?

I walk in the door and Eve looks over to send me a smile. "Hey, Grace! How was school?" Eve asks and I shrug.

"Fine, I guess." I say and Eve furrows her eyebrows. I raise my eyebrow at her and she pats the seat next to me, telling me to sit. I let out a sigh and drop my bag, walking over to the couch. I sit next to Eve and she places the popcorn beside her, turning to me.

"Why do you look so down?" Eve asks and I shake my head.

"I'm not 'down'." I say and Eve rolls her eyes.

"Very funny. Now, tell me what's wrong." Eve asks and I let out a sigh.

"Its just... well, at lunch, Nicole and Luke were talking while I was getting some food and they looked very serious. When I got back to the table, Nicole made up an excuse to go to the bathroom and when I asked Luke, he said that it was nothing. I just feel like they are hiding something from me." I say and Eve nods.

"Maybe they are... or maybe they aren't." Eve says and I furrow my eyebrows in confusion.

"What is that suppose to mean?" I ask and Eve shrugs, a smile on her face.

"It could mean anything... but it could also mean nothing at all." Eve says, the smile still on her face and I let out a frustrated sigh.

"Tell me-"

"Look in your bedroom." Eve says almost immediately and I frown.

"Why?" I ask and Eve let's out a groan.

"Don't ruin it. Just go and look." Eve says and my frown deepens.

"Don't ruin what-"

"Grace, don't make me drag you up there myself." Eve says and I let out a sigh. I get up from my spot on the couch and make my way over to the stairs. I glance back over at Eve to see her watching me with a wide grin on her face. I roll my eyes and begin to walk up the stairs.

Why do I have to look in my room? What could possible be there?

I walk into my room and all of a sudden, my frown disappears and my eyes widen, a smile making its way onto my face. I look at the beautiful purple dress and grab the note that is resting on the top of it.

To Gracie,

I know this is last minute but I have a reason. I forgot about the dance. Yes, that's my reason and hopefully you can find it in your heart to forgive me for my stupidity. Also, your probably wondering how I got your dress size and before you think that I snuck into your room and looked at your clothes, I asked Eve to check for me. I hope you like the dress, beautiful. See you tomorrow night xx - L.P

I smile and drop the note on my bed. Before I can even feel the dress, I hear my phone go off and I grab it out of my pocket, looking at the message.

My smile widens and before I can type my reply, my phone buzzes again.

I let out a laugh and grin, typing my reply.

Before I can send my reply, my phone begins to buzz like crazy.

All of a sudden, instead of a message popping up, Luke begins to call me and I let out a laugh. I answer the call and press the phone to my ear, still laughing.

"Please tell me your joking." Luke says and when I continue to laugh, Luke groans.

"Your joking, aren't you?" Luke asks and I stop laughing, holding my chest to steady my heart.

"Yes, you moron! Of course I will go with you." I say and Luke sighs.

"I totally knew you were joking." Luke says and I let out another laugh.

Sure you did, Luke.
