《Saving Gracie | ✓》Chapter Forty: You Can't Handle The Truth.

Suddenly, I feel my body come alive and just as my eyes open, I hear certain voices, making my eyes snap shut.
"You had a gun? Why the hell do you have a gun?" A voice which sounds like Luke says, the anger in his voice is clear. I hear a sob, followed by a quiet voice which is definitely Bree.
"I have it for emergencies." Bree says, her voice breaking.
"Oh and so you nearly killed yourself because you thought it was an emergency? Is that right, mom?" Luke says and the memories of before when I tried to stop Bree from shooting herself come into my mind. The sudden urge to stop the two from either getting into an argument or getting upset appears in my mind and I open my eyes, looking at Luke who is staring into his mom's eyes, a flash of hurt and anger in them.
I clear my throat loudly, hoping that I get their attention and just as I thought, Bree and Luke look over and they both run over to me. Luke holds me in his arms but I wince loudly, the pain in my shoulder making me clench my teeth. Luke instantly pulls away and frowns at me.
"Sorry," He mumbles and I shake my head, waving him off.
"Its okay." I say and before Luke or I can say another word, Bree steps in front of Luke and sends me a small frown.
"I'm sorry I did this to you. It shouldn't of been you that got shot, it should've been-" Before Bree can continue, Luke growls, making Bree shut up. She sends her son a sad look before turning back to me. "Are you okay?" Bree asks and I look at my shoulder which is bandaged up.
"I guess so. Just no hugs." I say, cracking a smile which makes Bree chuckle. All of a sudden, a doctor and a police officer walks into the room, their eyes landing on me.
"Your awake." The doctor says and I nod. He walks over, grabs the clipboard on the end of my bed and reads it before grabbing out a pen and ticking something off.
"Grace," The doctor starts. "We've successfully pulled the bullet out of your shoulder but just to make sure that you are okay, we need you to stay a night. You know, to check you blood pressure, heart rate - all of that stuff." The doctor says and I nod again, completely fine with staying one more night. I just hope that it is just for one night because with everything that I have had to deal with at hospitals, I don't want to start having nightmares.

Oh, I'm so lucky I haven't been having nightmares...
"Now, I'll be back soon but in the meantime, Constable Wilkins wants to have a chat with you." The doctor says before leaving the room. I look over at the officer who is sending me a small smile.
"I believe we've met before." The officer says and as I begin to think, a small smile spreads across my face. The police officer that took me into protective custody, I think. Oh, what is his name again?
"Jackson." I say, finally remembering and he nods, the smile still on his face. He looks me over and a light chuckle escapes his lips.
"You seem to have one hell of a life, huh?" Jackson says and I nod, the smile still on my face. Before I can say a word, Luke stands beside Jackson and sends him a glare.
"I'm getting a vibe that I don't like..." Luke says and I chuckle.
"Luke-"
"Are you flirting with my girlfriend?" Luke asks and Jackson's eyes widen a little. He laughs and shakes his head.
"I'm twenty five, dude. I don't hit on people's girlfriends." Jackson says and Luke's features soften. I shake my head at Luke and send Jackson an apologetic look. Jackson just laughs it off.
"Its fine, it's fine. Everyone is jealous of me because, well, I'm hot." Jackson says and I burst out laughing when Jackson sends him a glare. Jackson laughs again, placing a hand on Luke's shoulder.
"I'm joking, buddy. I'm no creep." Jackson smiles and Luke nods.
"Good." He mutters and Jackson turns to me, rolls his eyes playfully and sits on the edge of the bed, pulling out a notepad.
"Now, what happened this time?"
●●●
After talking to Jackson for an hour about what had happened, what I am feeling and other stuff, he finally decided to head off, not after talking to Bree though of course. Apparently, Jackson has arranged Bree to meet a friend of his, a councilor, to talk about a few things since she is feeling low and depressed. Bree didn't want to at first but after having a chat with Luke outside of my hospital room, she seemed to look at it all from a different perspective which is good for everyone, I guess.
I called Eve about it all since no one had notified her that I am in hospital and to say that Eve was relieved was an understatement. She didn't even sleep at all last night because she was worried about where I was and what had happened to me.

Well, that's what I heard.
When I told Eve about it all, at first, she wanted to punch Bree in the face but when I explained to her about the thoughts that have been running around in Bree's head, she seemed to understand. Eve said that she would visit me later when Luke leaves but from what I am feeling right now, I don't think he will ever leave.
"Luke, you know you don't have to do this. It's just my shoulder." I say, watching as Luke tucks the blanket around my body. He shakes his head and lifts my neck, fixing my pillow.
"I don't care. You shouldn't be going through this pain that your feeling right now so I'm helping you out here." Luke says and I let out a laugh.
"My shoulder is numb. I can't feel a thing." I say and Luke shakes his head again.
"I still don't care." Luke mutters and I shake my head at him and watch as he throws the rubbish from my lunch in the bin. When he sits on the edge of the bed, he let's out a sigh.
"I'm sorry this happened." Luke says and I narrow my eyes at him.
"What have I said about apologizing about this? It was not your fault and neither was it your mother's. If someone is to blame, it is me." I say and Luke sends me a frown.
"No, it's not your fault. Don't talk like that." Luke says and I send him a smile.
"You can't handle the truth." I say and Luke narrows his eyes at me.
"You did not just say that." Luke says and I grin.
"Do you want to me say it again? I don't think you heard me." I say, humor clear in my tone and Luke shakes his head.
"You won't say it even if you wanted to."
"And why is that?"
"Because if you say it, I'd have to do something very terrible to you." Luke says and I scrunch my nose in digust.
"Ew, you rapist." I say and Luke laughs, shaking his head.
"I didn't mean touch you, Gracie."
"Then what?" I ask and Luke places a finger on his lips, telling me to be quiet.
"Don't say it if you know what's good for you." Luke says with a grin and I return the grin, raising my eyebrow.
"Are you testing me?" I ask and Luke shrugs.
"Maybe, maybe not." Luke says and I nod slowly.
"Okay then." I say, my grin turning into a small smile. "You can't handle the truth." I say, waiting for whatever Luke is going to do to me. He raises his eyebrow at me before leaning closer to me. His lips brush against mine and just as I am about to push my lips onto his, he moves back with the grin still on his face.
"No kisses for you." Luke says and I frown at him.
"Your honestly the most meanest person ever." I mumble and Luke nods.
"I know, I know." Luke says and when he notices the glares that I am sending his way, he laughs.
"You can't be angry at me forever." Luke says and I turn my head, showing him that I can exactly do that. Luke frowns and grabs my hand.
"Gracie, you can't do this to me."
"But you can do this to me?" I ask, looking over at Luke and he grins, raising his eyebrow in question.
"Do what?" He asks and I roll my eyes.
"I know what your trying to do, you know." I say and Luke shakes his head.
"Nah, I don't. Go on. Tell me what your talking about." Luke says and I shake my head.
"Nope."
"Tell me."
"No, I'm fine."
"Grace..."
"You won't kiss me!" I suddenly burst out and I feel my cheeks go hot. Luke smiles and brings his face closer to mine.
"Now, why won't I?" Luke asks and I send him a glare, trying to stop my heart from beating like crazy.
"Because your a bitch." I mutter under my breath and Luke's eyes widen.
"Oh, you just swore!" Luke gasps and I roll my eyes.
"So?" I ask and Luke shakes his head in disapproval.
"I'll make a deal with you, okay? Never swear again and I'll kiss you." Luke says and I raise my eyebrow at him.
"Really?" I ask and Luke nods. A small smile appears on my lips and before his lips can touch mine, I place my hand in front of my lips to stop him, making Luke groan. I throw him a grin and push him off the bed with my leg.
"Karma really does suck."
